You can soak the wooden console in acetone with a lid on the container.leave it for two or three days and it removes the clear finish. You can restain, and spray on coats of automotive clear coat and then wetsand and buff it out with rubbing compound and it looks new!

Will this process rot the ply wood? Must close the acetone lid?

The slider at 1:20 on the left side that guides the door, how do I install a new one? It is l-shaped and I don't know how to get it around that l-shaped vertical post and also get it to install into the regular's track....???

Very helpful video. I have the same problem on my 2000 ML320 W163. I hear my motor and see that semi-circular gear looking part with the teeth moving around when I use the switch to move the window up and down. I can manually move the window up and down. Its on track and regulator arms move when manually sliding but don't move by switch. I am guessing I have snapped that arms weld point as in your window. I'll be back to post after it's fixed. Thank you

Great i was debating buying a cheap regulator or not. I have a welder, so I'll go with the cheap one.

Which brand of regulator do you recommend?

Behr is a good brand - possibly oem...

I agree- a failure like this with such a new part from an OEM would suggest to me there's too much resistance somewhere. But it could just have been bad luck with poor spot welding, tho that seems unlikely with a German OEM...

That regulator is not made by Behr, but by BBR Germany. It's an awful product, just like Diesel Mercedes pointed out, bought one of those to replace my failed regulator. It broke at the same exact point after 3 months of use, the welds just let go. Replaced it with a used OEM part, it's still working 4 years later.
