    Friendly neighbourhood audio engineer here! All the interviews I've watched in this series, there's a compressor/limiter and/or noise-gate on the mics that needs to be fixed. After a pause, the first word of each speaker is jumping up in gain a LOT. You need to take a look at the attack time and threshold on whatever plugins you have running on these mics.
    Amazing coverage and interviews though!

      The video's audio was fine, you're nitpicking. If you think the Take Take Take audio is awful, then you would be shocked as to how crappy the audio is in my workplace. All this buzzing and you can't even hear whole sentences sometimes on Google Meet audio or Zoom audio. My bosses have really really bad audio sometimes. You should be grateful that Take Take Take at least has audio that is perfectly audible.

      @@xx765 I think it is because he was able to face the two people who basically started the whole witch hunt against it. And in the same event, they all come to an agreement and they are able to move on. At 8:45 Hans says, "There should be ratings decay." That is a practical solution to a genuine problem of top players not playing enough games. Think about this. If a group of, say, the top ten ranked players agreed they'd only play in selected events against each, then their average ranking would remain the same. The order of that top ten may be reshuffled but it would be hard for any upcoming players to climb up into the top ten.
    And FIDE needs to do better with the qualification rules to the Candidates' Tournament. What Ding and Firouzja did in organising ad hoc, limited tournaments to qualify for the last two cycles looked really grubby. Admittedly they were genuine top-eight players, but it looked awful.

    • @factstet7700

      @hellothere4073 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @Alexander_amsponaorsotc on the flip side, look how many ranking points top players loose in one game versus how many games they need to play to rank up. There was a tournament where Magnus won 13 out of 14 (or something very similar) games and came out of tournament with lower ranking than he entered. Neither that's fair nor encouraging...

    • @dmitripogosian5084
      @dmitripogosian5084 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Alexander_amsponaorsotc So if they are not playing, how does it negatively affect lower ranked players ? If I never meet somebody in a tournament, why do I care what ranking he has ? Usual complaint of aspiring players like Niemann is that they are not invited enough into the elite tournaments. Which actually means that elite players are playing, but between themselves (perhaps to protect the ranking). So the issue is to have more requirement for elites to meet lower ranked ones. There is no issue if some elite player semiretires and plays rarely.

    I hope FIDE takes note of what's he's saying. Making all the Candidate feeder tournaments open tournaments is a very interesting idea. Rating decay also quite brilliant, since it gives an incentive to play. Without it, there's an incentive to avoid playing if you're highly rated.
    Heck, maybe the rating the top players loses incrementally goes to everyone else? So that if top players do nothing, they reduce and others are boosted - allowing chess ELO to to be a real relativistic measure of merit.

    Magnus definitely expected fide to be more flexible towards him as they were used to be less strict to the top players. Cuz he mentioned that he forgot about the dress code and wanted to change tomorrow. But fide decided to treat everyone equally which is a good thing. But the fact is that players on the lower boards also violated the dress code, Hikaru's opponent had sneakers on which is also banned, but it was ignored by fide. I think they fined Ian for not abiding by the dress code and afterwards he was willing to comply. Magnus was given the time to change and allowing him to bypass the rules would make it feel unfair to the arbiter I imagine. Also in past years they didn't enforce rules as much but as the head of fide said in an interview they made the dress code more lenient and made it clear they were gonna follow the somewhat changed dress code more strictly this year. I don't think the rule itself makes a lot of sense but if u do have a dress code and u have been enforcing it on other players I do understand not wanting to make an exception for the biggest player in ur tournament as that can be seen as showing favoritism.

If it were Hikaru wearing sneakers, there's a high chance he would have been warned and made to change. Tons of players aren't complying with the dress code entirely, it is selectively enforced upon only the top players, basically done so in a political manner, and is particularly being done so with the advent of this new league that is a threat to FIDE and which they are actively trying to interfere with the success of. That is the bigger issue at play.

    • @natsutabbaa5324
      @natsutabbaa5324 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Scarmiglione379 I mean for one it's quite possible that person did get into trouble for the sneakers after the match but even if he did you wouldn't hear about it cause he isn't as well known. Also the head of fide did say that they have also been taking action on lesser known players. A couple of people being unnoticed doesn't necessarily mean they are being biased. There are way more eyes on the bigger players so obviously them breaking the rules will be a lot more noticeable. And I don't think it's just because of the new world tournament event Carlsen is a part of because if so they wouldn't have had to fine Ian who afaik isn't evolved in this drama. If anything I think Carlsen might have been frustrated with fide not wanting another world championship event which lead to him not wanting to comply with the rules even though he had all the chances too.

      That too was sponsored by a trillion dollar company. Viewership was at all time high. Magnus and his fans should understand that popularity of chess will grow with or without him.

      @@noice8674 whenever Indian will play viewership will be all time high, now Indian kids are the future but about Google , money wise there's no sponsorship , it was about publication that's also great but the fund , fisher Kasparov even Anand that time the fund if we exclude the inflation also still the funding is low fide is showing they are gathering new sponsors but it only helps them out of top 20 almost everyone struggle just by playing games that's why the ecosystem of fide is responsible, many offenders (sexual one also) still a part of fide and they bother about jeans

      @Ankit-u2v He is the GOAT no doubt. But that has nothing to do with viewership or popularity of game. His presence would attract more viewership but his absence won't matter as well. Happened with Fischer and later Kasparov who thought chess is nothing without them. But history repeats.

      After seeing how Magnus throws tantrums while losing, I am seriously starting to think Hans did not cheat against Magnus. It's just that Magnus cannot tolerate losses and rage quit back then as well.

    I do like the point regarding players not playing enough games per year. I totality agree that rating should be lost automatically for not playing enough games. This would mean that top players would have to play more events to maintain ratings and therefore qualifications on said rating for specific tournament qualification for the WCC cycle.

      I think he's kind of waiting for what Magnus decides to build which is probably part of why he was so vocal about what he thanks a world championship competition should be.
      If Magnus creates or supports a system with more open qualifiers that reduces barrier of entry for younger and financially disadvantaged players then he will probably support it as well. If it's something with a lot of the same structural problems but just a cooler dress code then he will probably be critical.
      I think it's clear that Hans is starting to mature a lot as person compared to previous times we've seen him.
