    Watch next: the one gadget that saved my shoot while travelling!
    th-cam.com/video/2cZhQQDvQc4/w-d-xo.html
    UPDATE: It’s been brought to my attention that 1h to transfer 500gb of footage is NOT fast. On my PC it would take at least double so I was honestly impressed. But as it turns out I’ve been living a lie because I thought I bought a LaCie SSD (considering the $$$ I paid) but it looks like it’s a regular external hard drive 😂 OH WELL. Live and learn. This isn’t a data transfer speed test anyway. And this means that the MacBook is probably a billion times faster than it is with my current HD. We shall find out when I buy a real SSD LOL. I hope you enjoy the rest ✌🏻

      Hey Lila, great video. I am still contemplating if it will be a 14inch or 16inch. it is even harder to choose now than before, because the only tradeoff with the new models is the screen size and maybe some battery life.
      As for an external drive, I bought the Raidsonic Icy Box IB-1825M-C31 (which is very Mac-like, but only fits in color if you opted for the silver MacBook) and put a 2TB Samsung 970EVO Plus inside. It is the best version for me. USB 3.2 can transfer up to 10GBit/s in that case, which is up to 1,25GB. So your 500GB would take half a second. If you need even faster speed there is also USB 3.2 2x2, which has up to 20 GBit/s. But that is way more pricey
      I like your video setup by the way. Planning on a Sony A7IV to replace my 6400. But these days I am renting the A7SIII most of the time and use the 6400 just as a B cam and for Zoom Meetings

      That 15" was already at the border line 8 years ago, when that design launched. Now, 8y later, the new 16" feels is even more bulkier, I bought that thing and regret after 3 days, I felt weird carrying it around, it feels like I had an outdated and gigantic machine. I felt in the past, literally. The 2016~2019 15" was perfect size.

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@edimarjunior572 Different strokes I suppose. I can't function without that larger screen. My wife has a 14" HP Spectre 360 and while the small size is nice when traveling, the screen size is an issue for me and my workflow when traveling (which is numerous times a week) and when I only get 1 screen to work on, every little bit helps. I've tried using hers a couple times (when she was trying out my old macbook to see if her workflow could exist in MacOS) and I resorted to just swapping back and fourth between desktop spaces instead of just having everything I need on one screen.
      I know 14 vs 16" doesn't sound like a lot but it turned out to be a much bigger deal than I expected and since all I've known is the larger macbook form factor, it feels exactly the same but with a bit more screen... and a HELL of a lot faster/quieter.

      @@lilafromyoutube Any optical drive is a disaster waiting to happen. SSD gives less headaches because the drive can move without possibly damaging the drive. I hate hearing the moving parts in the LaCie fizzle out. You start to hear it and then it gets worse and worse. Then files start disappearing. I spent a week getting files off of it onto an SSD. The drive would work for about 15 to 30 minutes and then stop working. Then I would have to restart. I had the darn thing backed up also. Both my main drive and backup failed at the same time. I decided I needed to a change after this last episode that caused me to lose much sleep.

    Great video. Yes, you can charge a MacBook Pro 16" from any USB-C power source. I sometimes use the USB-C plug I have for my iPhone to charge my MacBook Pro rather than lugging the massive plug/power adaptor with me. It charges more slowly with lower power going in, but it does the job absolutely fine, and if you want to travel light, then using the folding iPhone plug is a viable option, so long as you are not looking to fast charge. Leave it plugged in for a few hours while you are asleep, and you will wake up to a fully charged laptop. On the size front, I also have an Air M1, which I bought with the idea that it would be my out-and-about laptop, but I never use it. Once you are used to the 16", anything else feels like a poor compromise imho. If I am travelling and space is so tight I can't get my laptop out, I use my phone to catch up on emails or whatever or take the opportunity to take a break from screens to read a book.

    People talk about size so much with laptops. I daily drive a framework 16 with the dedicated GPU. This thing is what most people would consider a chonker, yet to me it still feels kinda slim and portable. Although I am a taller person with bigger hands so there is that too.

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As a shorter person with smaller hands I would still not trade in my 16 inch for a smaller laptop. Having a bigger screen is my priority when I edit videos and carrying around 16 vs 14 is a small difference (what’s an extra pound when your bag already is 8kg 😂), I just take the “inconvenience” and enjoy a bigger screen!

    Hi Lila! Great video.
    I have been using a mid-2015 15" MBP for software development at work. I need to choose between the 14" M1 Pro and the 16" M1 Max for an upgrade. Would you be able to tell from what you generally know which screen size developers in particular tend to prefer? I am leaning towards the 14", because I really like small form factors in general and I have always found my 15" a bit cumbersome to carry around/store, but I am not really sure if going an inch smaller might turn out to be an inconvenience workwise. From your video, I gather that if I haven't found the 15" model very portable, I am definitely going to find the 16" one even less so.

    • @lilafromyoutube

      I mean, it's a very specific circumstance.. How often are people on planes and editing ect (yeah i know some fly more frequently than others) that it not fitting on a tray is a major hassle. For someone like myself, i'm always at home and when i'm not i'm usually near a decent sized table but on the off chance i'm not then i'm probably not on a device at that time anyway. 16" is an ideal size for me but i will say the max chip is pointless for my usage.
