    Tried doing the full "contractor" thing myself, but ended up just subbing to companies as a freelance tech because it takes a huge burden of politics, paperwork and money-chasing away. Most technical people seem to be bad at the business side of things because it's so tedious and boring.

    I'm a semi truck mechanic and honest I don't like much of the maintenance side of things. Tires, brakes, seal and all that jaz. Not my favorite. But rebuilding engines, turbo swaps, heads, actual big jobs. Love me that stuff

    I’m an apprentice from Australia & I just realised why I like this channel so much. Canada is a first world country with apprenticeships as well, makes it more relatable than the American stuff.

    I've been building diesel engines since 1980, so I'm one of the old boys. Have you ever heard RTFM? OH can't talk that way to the new guy's, they'll call HR on you. Something that needs to be talked about is that these schools that are training these new tech's are not telling them that they will be startibg at the bottom and must work to get to the top. Some of these guy's have spent $30,000 and think that they are going to walk into a shop and start building engine or work on other equipment right out the gate and be making the big buck's. It doesn't matter how many cert's you have, anybody can pass a test and get a cert. Hands on is how you learn and you need to follow instrutions from how ever is training you. I always tell guy's, do it the way i tell you to do it and when you are on your own you can do it anyway you want, but when you screw up be a man and don't say I was told to do it that way. Then go back to the way I trained you.

    Ahoy Cam! Greetings from Australia. What are some of the operator caused issues you encounter that lead to extra repair work in the field? Are you seeing a common trend across different jobs sites that can be avoided? Cheers mate!

    I live in Houston and cut trees man I work till noon and I'm done 6hr days it's too hot on site at 0600 leave at noon climbing trees past noon will lead to heat exhaustion it's not worth your life man swinging in trees and climbing you can get yourself killed no thanks. If I have finished the job and need to clean up I will usually take a long lunch come back in the evening to clean up the limbs and brush or just come back in the morning. I topped a tree the other day at noon and the heat index was 115 fahrenheit when I got on the ground I thought I was gonna pass out I went for the A/C and water.

    I'm in Texas, I hear yal talk about the cold, was curious how hot it gets where you are? We don't really work in the snow, we normally just go home. It's common for us to get 90 days straight over 100 degrees, do yal get triple digit heat much?

    Howdy from The Comox Valley, Vancouver island! Thanks for all the awesome content! my questions are A: With a mini-excavator (3.5 ton) what benefits are there to using rubber or steel tracks if you're always in changing worksites/ground types? and 2: I'm having trouble finding a replacement for the fusible link/ fuse wire that was used on my machine originally. is it ok to use a breaker or maxi-blade fuse of the same amp rating or will I run into problems? (machine is a kubota KX101)

    • @Graveltrucking
      @Graveltrucking 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have an grey market machine you are going to have a hell of a time finding undercarriage parts. When we tried getting tracks for a 161 they said maybe a year wait. We had 9 kubota hoes in the fleet I wrenched on them all. In all honesty you have a money pit. My buddies KX121 cost him 12 grand in repairs. We got rid of Machines soon as the warranty run out. Rubber tracks is you're cheapest option. Douglas Lake Equipment is the only Kubota dealer to deal with. Avenue Equipment doesn't give you any lube before they screw you.

    Cam has a Jim Carrey hair cut 😂This year the weather Fin sucks I wish it would stop raining. Ya I've had people say you f****** stink when I go into the grocery store I've been wrenching all day my stanfields are covered in oil or what ever. Or I've been torching and welding the fumes just cling to you're clothes. I don't smell it, been around this sh*t all my life, working on the truck I drive heating and beating parts of the dump box my vissi shirt on fire. I'm not a mechanic by trade nor I ever want to be I can work as an unlicensed HD all day long if I need to. I'd rather be driving or running hoe than wrenching on sh*t nicer to stay clean and dry. Ya its nice once in a while to problem solve makes your brain work.
