This reminds me of my home country the Philippines, there's so much economic growth at least in the past 12 years but all those successes are only felt by certain sector of the society, whereas, the percentage of the poor population remains the same which is sad. I agree with the lady that access to quality education is a major step to aleviate the lives of the poor population. I am a living example of that. I strived hard to earn good education to have a better live.

I’m a couple of years late to this and I’m thankful that you made a video like this. I’m half Panamanian and spent some childhood years there. It’s been about 15-20 years since I’ve been there, I’m 32 now, and have felt very ignorant to my country despite having family there. I have found that there are not enough videos of Panama with information I want to find. Most just have pros and cons of moving there or visiting. I want more information before I revisit and see family I haven’t seen since I was a kid.

Been living in El Chorillo, Santa Ana the last 18 months. Have found the people to be the most kind, welcoming, honest, hardworking of any people that I have known. I also enjoy many other communities in the metro area, the people in my bario are my favorite. 😎

Carlos Bennett What, r u kidding? She barely answered one ☝️ question out of many the guy asked. The interviewer asked her, why she thinks people are poor in this specific neighborhood. She kept repeating people are poor they don’t have food .....on and..The question was, why do you think people are poor here in this neighborhood. She could have said; well parents have no education on any enterprise, no skill and keep having babies 👶 over and over...

Very interesting video. It's telling that there's such a contrast, but the truth is that this seems so common EVERYWHERE. I'm a New Yorker and I can definitely say this is so, unfortunate, but true. That lady was kind to do the interview. The problem (and the benefit) of Panama is the american model of capitalism. There needs to be a SLIGHT ideological softening (not alot, but a bit) just enough to allow a proper public healthcare system and a small reduction in inequality. The last thing I want is for panama to end up with licenses for everything and government bureaucrats running the show, but there is happy middle point somewhere. And right now panama and America are too far to the right of it (and Europe is too far to the left of it).

I was born in DETROIT, and it wasn't always like the media depicts it today. There are still very nice neighborhoods. I was in Panama between 1981-1984, It was a third world country, a lot of that wasn't there. It was very BEAUTIFUL, to me in 1981. I'm making plans to leave East Oakland, and find a spot on the beach maybe a hour, outside of Ciudad de Panama.

However the trash here is some how less toxic that in developed countries where you can find since asbestos, paraffins and all sort of toxic contaminants. No sure if a correlate to many strange diseases developed countries as USA and some of Europe has. No sure what you meant by dark.

But out of the those I have seen Panama City would definitely be my favorite because of the modernity, the food and things to see and do (Metropolitano park, Historic District, Panama Canal etc.) I made videos of the three places I just mentioned.

I think Panama is what it is largely because of how the country started in the first place, and how it was for most of it`s existence. Like all of the central and south american countries, Panama started as a country of indigenous, basically stone age, people, that were conquered and occupied and enslaved by a European country, for the sole purpose of extracting wealth from it. This is not a good beginning. And it stayed an occupied and enslaved country until virtually all the wealth had been extracted from it. When a country starts like that, and stays like that for 200-300 years, it takes a long time to recover, if it ever does. Many African and Asian countries, that started very similarly, they have never recovered from it until this very day. Panama, unlike Nicaragua or Honduras or even Mexico, had the great luck of it`s geographical location, making the one and only place in all the western hemisphere where a project like the Panama Canal was not only possible, it was badly needed by most of the rest of the world. Without that canal, Panama as it exists today would NOT exist, it would still be dirt poor Gran Colombia, for certain.
