A lot of the issues you mentioned (Blade animations, graphics/rendering issues) were fixed in future updates, though I'm sure you already know that by now. As someone who also played this game since launch for 200+ hours, this was a great review! I really enjoy your channel, it's nice to see more 'girl games' out there who also primarily play Jrpgs, like myself haha. We're kinda a rare breed lmao

Great review! This was one of my favourite games I played last year, but it's not without its faults. I had a few freezing issues with one particular enemy that was needed for a side quest (the game would just freeze when completing the battle and trying to go to a cut scene). Although the voice acting isn't great, I loved that this was localised by Nintendo of Europe and has quite a few regional British accents in it. My main gripe with this game is the fact that chapters 9 and 10 storylines are almost a completely different genre to 1 - 8. Maybe the end would make a more sense had I played the original.
The mapping system in Xenoblade Chronicles X was made by staff who have been with Takahashi since Xenogears. However, not everyone stay in the same company for too long when changes are being made. Takahashi said 100 staff have left the studio since 1999 when the studio was founded. They have expanded to 208 people today but if 100 people hadn't been contracted or as full-time employee leave the company maybe same people would still be in the company. Masahiro Kabe who has been a map planner since Xenogears worked on Xenosaga Episode 1 as map planner, level design director on Episode II and map planner director on Episode III. Did worked on DS games (Super Robot Taisen OG and Dragon Ball Z RPG) as map planner after that and later on came back to console with Xenoblade Chronicles X and worked on lead level design for the field (mapping system). So lose staff of this caliber hurted Monolith Soft's quality a bit.
Oh man, I don't know how you put up with the dub. Nevertheless, this is definitely my favourite game out of any of the Xenoblades. Try watching some scenes in the JP audio -- it honestly made me tear up quite a few times haha! P.s., Great editing as always. :D

I know this review is old but it still surprises me that even JRPG players can‘t seem to understand that Pyra being basic is the point. It‘s a mask Mythra puts on to hide her fears and pain. Also you can‘t have one without the other, they both complement each other and are a sort of callback to Fei and his split personalities from Xenogears
I got like 10 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and gave up. I wanted to like it. I love the story and the characters and the world but the game play and gacha-cores and systems bloat kept me from enjoying it. Whenever I started to get into it another menu option was added or a high level monster pathing unpredictably would wipe me while going from point A to B and leave me feeling frustrated cause I just wanted to get to the story beats. This is truly a game where I'm jealous of the people who got full enjoy of all the game had to offer, but sadly, it just didn't have the right offerings for me.
Only blade I wanted I got last after releasing and getting back several rare blades to increase my odds. No clue what they were thinking with the blade pull system.
This was one of my favourite games but I somehow never saw your review. I agree with most of your critiques but I still loved the game. Also, that music! So good!
Best xenoblade chronicles 2 review EASILY, i have seen alot of biased reviewers ignoring this games many flaws and giving it a full score ,while iam very far into the game and i have enjoyed many aspects of it, it is still far very far from perfect i would rate it pretty much the same.

i dunno how much time i put into this before i put it down for a long while. then i come back and realized that there was a bunch of updates and im thinking 'why wasnt this in at launch?'...then before i ever finished this one i got the prequel and got a ways into that...put that one down...came back to this one and now i think im liking this one again because i can scale my own difficulty with the custom option...thank God. i like the game but i feel like there was just to much put into this and not enough explanation.
After re-playing this game I noticed a lot of similarities to this and another Monolithsoft game(Baten Kaitos). Especially the way the world is set up and parts of the story. That's still one of my favorites.🐳
My favorite JRPG if all time, but I have to agree about tutorials, they aren't poorly accessible and intrusive only intrusive, but surprinsingly there is also a lack of information being given to players about how thing actually work, like for example not telling the player the damage multiplier and extra crit chance of blade's especial or the side effects that level 2 blade combos have. There so many mechanics of this game that can be only understood if the datamines are read.
More a general kind of comment, but a lot of reviewers try sketches or skits mid-reviews to pump things up, with different levels of success, but you're up there in terms of consistently making me laugh with them. you go all out on the costumes, performances, etc, and this one is among the absolute best. Hilarous.

Great review. I have to agree with your criticism of some of the designs. I don't mind big ol anime tiddies, but these outfits were absurd and the boob physics just looks goofy (instead of sexy). I thought both X and Xenoblade 1 had better designs overall.
I do admit the game could have done some better polishing but the technical problems can easily be patched I love the review you presented your pros and cons in a very concise way I personally love the game and it’s tied with the first game as my favorite game but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is not for everyone but it’s a solid game in my book and I’m glad you enjoyed it

I don't have the game but might get it if I get a switch, but the "anime" parts turn me off. By that I mean it had some of the annoying and hyper sexualized near underaged qualities about it. The original Xenoblade very little obnoxious stuff like that, and X had some, but it seems like they're cranking up the animeometer to 11. Hopefully this isn't a trend and they dial it back to their original settings for future games. On a side note, while X did have a lame story, I hope it gets an amazing sequel that builds on the unanswered questions and dials down the animeometer. It has the potential to be a great series. Less Tatsu/Jarjar Binks would help.
Great review Lady Pelvic! Xenoblade 2 is my fist entry in series and despite some game mechanics flaws i absolutely love it ! Especially the story which give me chills, laughs and little bit of tears :). I decide to finish every Xenogame. I know Xenogears is absolute classic but i have ''X'' as well. Where to go next? Maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 1? And am curious how you compare story to Xenogears.? I'm really excited that i invested my time in this series, it deserves far more attention from gamers !
Recheck your played hours under the nintendo dash board. There is a bug that made the timer continue to tick in sleep mode. My game time went over 200 hours even though my actual play time is about 105 now.
15:40 I’m pretty late to the party when it comes to this video but I ain’t gone CAP, low key my favorite part of the review. IM JUST SAYING. I’m a man of culture………and I ain’t talking the blue pill kind. Edit: aight just finished the video and I gave the game a similar scoring. I remember people in comments swearing by this game like it was the Bible that it was the best JRPG to exist or at least a classic. I played it around 100+ hours or so with the story finished and thought to myself, “wtf is this?”. The game isn’t bad by any means but a masterpiece? A lot of XC fans don’t like me because I call them d!ck riders but to put it simply they are. Calling this game a masterpiece is a insult to pioneers in my opinion. I’d say it’s even an insult to Xenogears which IS considered a pioneer. This game was not masterfully done and by so many counts did it miss the mark. There’s gem for sure with this game but it’s a rough gem that needs polishing to shine. I’m here of course closer to XC3 time and I’m getting recommendations for older XC2 videos. I didn’t beat XC1 and XC2 till recently. XC remains an amazing game to me even though the games gameplay style was completely foreign to me since I have never played a MMORPG. XC I can recognize as a masterpiece but XC2 fans are on wild af for calling XC2 a masterpiece. I’d say this games story is like the equivalent of Fairy Tale or Seven Deadly Sins. It’s a good story but not all that special or all that crazily well executed.
You realise the blue dots on the map show up if there is a side quest you have yet to revive or you have a side quest that can be completed by going to that area, right? Red Markers = Main Blue = Side. They tell you this really early. You can also buy the tutorial info from informants.
I just finished it a few weeks ago and it’s a favourite of mine now it was so good and the funny thing was it took two attempts when I first tried it I didn’t like that much so I waited couple years and tried it again from the beginning and I love it this game is so fun and the party support characters are so cool and I think I like them more than the first game’s party.

Love how you structured this. It's way better than mine is turning out as haha. Great job! I liked most of the rare blades affinity tress. I enjoyed making a day out of doing affinity tree side-quests but I can see how other people would prefer something more passive, that said, this game had a ton of things that I thought became a "Time vampire." Too many unskippable things and small constant gameplay interruptions. Still loved the game but it's a bit short of getting my highest accolades. On the rare blade designs. I mostly agree. They reached out to a lot of different artists (Including hentai artists) which kind of explains it haha. It's great-ish for a diverse cast (Even though it's 80% women) but terrible for consistency. Is it strange that I feel pyra looks like a race-car? And as for the english VO. Again, agree fully. Everytime I say it though people freak out. Worried about publishing my video for my critique of this part.

A part of me wants this game since I love rpgs and the first game of the series, but then I'm not sure this will be for me. Music seems great tho and I might pick it up if only for the story. Having watched a few reviews I don't really like this blade system (seems over the top). I might wait it out and save my money for the final fantasy lot coming next year since I know the classics I will be playing non-stop. Great review btw. 150 hours into the game, I accidentally discovered you can open the map to your location by just pressing X. I didn't know it was possible to be simultaneously relieved and frustrated.

I respect your review since u actually played it and finished and experienced it. Btw, u can just spam food to increase trust real fast. I hated that part too until I saw how people got around it.
Pelvic Gaming The trick is to never use their fave items coz this will cause a short dialogue. Use Rex, might be a spoiler, since he ends up being able to use all blades, and spam either Noponcho (textile), Fragrant Samod Stralu (meat) or Veg & Oyster Aspic (veggies) all available in Fonsett. They give an average of +20 trust per use. I have Mythra, and alternate the 2 spots. Rex is also good because u are increasing Mythra's trust to S+ helping her Crit/Heal build. So that's +600 trust per 30 items in less than 2-3 mins.
Absolutely great. Not sure what I was expecting, but XBC2 gets very polarized opinions from people, so this was a refreshing break from that. On a different note, I disagreed with your take on Bread. Might be because I'm a bit of a noob in the JRPG department and I'm not used to the tropes yet, but I feel like her being basic was what made here stand out. She's the only female member of the band who doesn't constantly roast Rex when given the chance. I kinda felt like Mythra was a jerk, so maybe I'm seeing differences where there weren't ones. I also thought the outfits were more than a little distracting, which sucks because there are some really solid character moments that I'm not able to show my family or friends who haven't played the game because the camera won't stop zeroing in on Breads Loafs during an otherwise earth-shattering lore bombshell. Everyone loves Morag, but Zeke is a treasure. Love that lad so much.
Kinda disagree on the dub, it's honestly pretty solid except for Rex's janky battle cries. I'm pretty sure Nia is supposed to be an adult though, because she's treated as such for the majority of the game. Rex calling her a kid was probably a height jab, at least that's what I assumed from that cutscene. Once again though, I haven't heard enough good dubs to really have a good grasp on that.

I’m very very late, but I finally finished this game yesterday I do have a lot of gripes about the game too but I still had an overall amazing experience. I didn’t have a let’s play from chuggaaconroy to follow this time so it made things pretty difficult for me, since I’m really awful at RPGs. Of all the voices, I think Nia has the most of that unmatched expression. I think her voice actually did slightly improve towards the end I kinda wish there weren’t so many blades. I’m not too big a fan of “catch em all” outside of pokemon. While it does give very wide range to strategy, they take really long to level up. Not to mention the limit on how many common blades you can carry. I would’ve just enjoyed being able to keep every single one and make the crystals harder to get Side quests aren’t as plentiful as in the other Xenoblades it seems. They got rid of those nameless fetch and monster quests. Though because of blade abilities I always find myself stuck on one and just having to do them later. I like taking detours from the main story but sometimes it took a lot to get through those quests, which prevented me from being overleveled for very long Even if I wasn’t overleveled, I found a neat trick with certain weapons to make some battles easier. Auto attack combos start over whenever you move, so I took advantage of that to spam anchor shots with Rex whenever I could. I love the Mor Ardain music too, but the Indol and Theosoir themes were my favorites After playing this game, I wanna play through the first game again, but I’ll hold off for now since Shulk is in this game as DLC. I’ll maybe go through more of the side quests and rare blades once I get the Expansion pass

I think all your points are valid but I think you may have overlooked the overall fun factor of the game which I feel makes up for a majority of the problems/nitpicks. Like the overlapping voice lines is terrible but the memetic value is God tier. I expected that you'd have a problem with some of the blade designs but Im surprised you didnt mention the lack of male blades too xD! Anyway, I feel like an 8 would have been a better score but Im glad you brutally gave it a 7 because the game DEFINITELY needed to stay in the oven a bit longer - at no point in time did I think they would meet the 2017 release window and it definitely shows that they had to rush it to make that date. Great review though, Monolithsoft needs to release Pelica as the DLC blade....that would be worth the entire $30 alone xD!

I know this review is old but it still surprises me that even JRPG players can‘t seem to understand that Pyra being basic is the point.
It‘s a mask Mythra puts on to hide her fears and pain. Also you can‘t have one without the other, they both complement each other and are a sort of callback to Fei and his split personalities from Xenogears

I got like 10 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and gave up. I wanted to like it. I love the story and the characters and the world but the game play and gacha-cores and systems bloat kept me from enjoying it. Whenever I started to get into it another menu option was added or a high level monster pathing unpredictably would wipe me while going from point A to B and leave me feeling frustrated cause I just wanted to get to the story beats. This is truly a game where I'm jealous of the people who got full enjoy of all the game had to offer, but sadly, it just didn't have the right offerings for me.
Only blade I wanted I got last after releasing and getting back several rare blades to increase my odds. No clue what they were thinking with the blade pull system.
Btw solid unbiased review... I would have preferred the game had gotten delayed for a while before coming out honestly.....

Best xenoblade chronicles 2 review EASILY, i have seen alot of biased reviewers ignoring this games many flaws and giving it a full score ,while iam very far into the game and i have enjoyed many aspects of it, it is still far very far from perfect i would rate it pretty much the same.

i dunno how much time i put into this before i put it down for a long while. then i come back and realized that there was a bunch of updates and im thinking 'why wasnt this in at launch?'...then before i ever finished this one i got the prequel and got a ways into that...put that one down...came back to this one and now i think im liking this one again because i can scale my own difficulty with the custom option...thank God. i like the game but i feel like there was just to much put into this and not enough explanation.
After re-playing this game I noticed a lot of similarities to this and another Monolithsoft game(Baten Kaitos). Especially the way the world is set up and parts of the story. That's still one of my favorites.🐳

My favorite JRPG if all time, but I have to agree about tutorials, they aren't poorly accessible and intrusive only intrusive, but surprinsingly there is also a lack of information being given to players about how thing actually work, like for example not telling the player the damage multiplier and extra crit chance of blade's especial or the side effects that level 2 blade combos have.
There so many mechanics of this game that can be only understood if the datamines are read.
I like the creative freedom given to the dev team. Some people are overexcited about animated boobs, which is a pity.

More a general kind of comment, but a lot of reviewers try sketches or skits mid-reviews to pump things up, with different levels of success, but you're up there in terms of consistently making me laugh with them. you go all out on the costumes, performances, etc, and this one is among the absolute best. Hilarous.

Great review. I have to agree with your criticism of some of the designs. I don't mind big ol anime tiddies, but these outfits were absurd and the boob physics just looks goofy (instead of sexy). I thought both X and Xenoblade 1 had better designs overall.

I do admit the game could have done some better polishing but the technical problems can easily be patched I love the review you presented your pros and cons in a very concise way I personally love the game and it’s tied with the first game as my favorite game but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is not for everyone but it’s a solid game in my book and I’m glad you enjoyed it

Haven't watched the vid yet, but I FUCKING. LOVE. This game! My game of the year!
I don't have the game but might get it if I get a switch, but the "anime" parts turn me off. By that I mean it had some of the annoying and hyper sexualized near underaged qualities about it. The original Xenoblade very little obnoxious stuff like that, and X had some, but it seems like they're cranking up the animeometer to 11. Hopefully this isn't a trend and they dial it back to their original settings for future games.
On a side note, while X did have a lame story, I hope it gets an amazing sequel that builds on the unanswered questions and dials down the animeometer. It has the potential to be a great series. Less Tatsu/Jarjar Binks would help.
Great review Lady Pelvic! Xenoblade 2 is my fist entry in series and despite some game mechanics flaws i absolutely love it ! Especially the story which give me chills, laughs and little bit of tears :). I decide to finish every Xenogame. I know Xenogears is absolute classic but i have ''X'' as well. Where to go next? Maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 1? And am curious how you compare story to Xenogears.? I'm really excited that i invested my time in this series, it deserves far more attention from gamers !

Recheck your played hours under the nintendo dash board. There is a bug that made the timer continue to tick in sleep mode. My game time went over 200 hours even though my actual play time is about 105 now.
15:40 I’m pretty late to the party when it comes to this video but I ain’t gone CAP, low key my favorite part of the review. IM JUST SAYING. I’m a man of culture………and I ain’t talking the blue pill kind.
Edit: aight just finished the video and I gave the game a similar scoring. I remember people in comments swearing by this game like it was the Bible that it was the best JRPG to exist or at least a classic. I played it around 100+ hours or so with the story finished and thought to myself, “wtf is this?”. The game isn’t bad by any means but a masterpiece? A lot of XC fans don’t like me because I call them d!ck riders but to put it simply they are. Calling this game a masterpiece is a insult to pioneers in my opinion. I’d say it’s even an insult to Xenogears which IS considered a pioneer. This game was not masterfully done and by so many counts did it miss the mark. There’s gem for sure with this game but it’s a rough gem that needs polishing to shine. I’m here of course closer to XC3 time and I’m getting recommendations for older XC2 videos. I didn’t beat XC1 and XC2 till recently. XC remains an amazing game to me even though the games gameplay style was completely foreign to me since I have never played a MMORPG. XC I can recognize as a masterpiece but XC2 fans are on wild af for calling XC2 a masterpiece. I’d say this games story is like the equivalent of Fairy Tale or Seven Deadly Sins. It’s a good story but not all that special or all that crazily well executed.

You realise the blue dots on the map show up if there is a side quest you have yet to revive or you have a side quest that can be completed by going to that area, right?
Red Markers = Main Blue = Side. They tell you this really early.

I just finished it a few weeks ago and it’s a favourite of mine now it was so good and the funny thing was it took two attempts when I first tried it I didn’t like that much so I waited couple years and tried it again from the beginning and I love it this game is so fun and the party support characters are so cool and I think I like them more than the first game’s party.
Luck only really helps when you max it at 999 so I understand the frustration there

I liked most of the rare blades affinity tress. I enjoyed making a day out of doing affinity tree side-quests but I can see how other people would prefer something more passive, that said, this game had a ton of things that I thought became a "Time vampire." Too many unskippable things and small constant gameplay interruptions. Still loved the game but it's a bit short of getting my highest accolades.
On the rare blade designs. I mostly agree. They reached out to a lot of different artists (Including hentai artists) which kind of explains it haha. It's great-ish for a diverse cast (Even though it's 80% women) but terrible for consistency. Is it strange that I feel pyra looks like a race-car?
And as for the english VO. Again, agree fully. Everytime I say it though people freak out. Worried about publishing my video for my critique of this part.

Wow! What an awesome review. Everything you said is exactly what I felt as well. I enjoyed the game a lot, but I believe it needed a few more months in the oven. Some of the tedium with certain gameplay mechanics felt like a waste of time. The story was my favorite part and my main reason to keep playing. It kept me hooked!

A part of me wants this game since I love rpgs and the first game of the series, but then I'm not sure this will be for me. Music seems great tho and I might pick it up if only for the story. Having watched a few reviews I don't really like this blade system (seems over the top). I might wait it out and save my money for the final fantasy lot coming next year since I know the classics I will be playing non-stop. Great review btw. New to this channel and so far loving your sense of humour and the in dept reviews. Keep them coming cause I'm already hooked xD

Pelvic Gaming The trick is to never use their fave items coz this will cause a short dialogue. Use Rex, might be a spoiler, since he ends up being able to use all blades, and spam either Noponcho (textile), Fragrant Samod Stralu (meat) or Veg & Oyster Aspic (veggies) all available in Fonsett. They give an average of +20 trust per use. I have Mythra, and alternate the 2 spots. Rex is also good because u are increasing Mythra's trust to S+ helping her Crit/Heal build. So that's +600 trust per 30 items in less than 2-3 mins.

Absolutely great. Not sure what I was expecting, but XBC2 gets very polarized opinions from people, so this was a refreshing break from that.
On a different note, I disagreed with your take on Bread. Might be because I'm a bit of a noob in the JRPG department and I'm not used to the tropes yet, but I feel like her being basic was what made here stand out. She's the only female member of the band who doesn't constantly roast Rex when given the chance. I kinda felt like Mythra was a jerk, so maybe I'm seeing differences where there weren't ones. I also thought the outfits were more than a little distracting, which sucks because there are some really solid character moments that I'm not able to show my family or friends who haven't played the game because the camera won't stop zeroing in on Breads Loafs during an otherwise earth-shattering lore bombshell. Everyone loves Morag, but Zeke is a treasure. Love that lad so much.
Kinda disagree on the dub, it's honestly pretty solid except for Rex's janky battle cries. I'm pretty sure Nia is supposed to be an adult though, because she's treated as such for the majority of the game. Rex calling her a kid was probably a height jab, at least that's what I assumed from that cutscene. Once again though, I haven't heard enough good dubs to really have a good grasp on that.

I’m very very late, but I finally finished this game yesterday
I do have a lot of gripes about the game too but I still had an overall amazing experience. I didn’t have a let’s play from chuggaaconroy to follow this time so it made things pretty difficult for me, since I’m really awful at RPGs.
Of all the voices, I think Nia has the most of that unmatched expression. I think her voice actually did slightly improve towards the end
I kinda wish there weren’t so many blades. I’m not too big a fan of “catch em all” outside of pokemon. While it does give very wide range to strategy, they take really long to level up. Not to mention the limit on how many common blades you can carry. I would’ve just enjoyed being able to keep every single one and make the crystals harder to get
Side quests aren’t as plentiful as in the other Xenoblades it seems. They got rid of those nameless fetch and monster quests. Though because of blade abilities I always find myself stuck on one and just having to do them later. I like taking detours from the main story but sometimes it took a lot to get through those quests, which prevented me from being overleveled for very long
Even if I wasn’t overleveled, I found a neat trick with certain weapons to make some battles easier. Auto attack combos start over whenever you move, so I took advantage of that to spam anchor shots with Rex whenever I could.
I love the Mor Ardain music too, but the Indol and Theosoir themes were my favorites
After playing this game, I wanna play through the first game again, but I’ll hold off for now since Shulk is in this game as DLC. I’ll maybe go through more of the side quests and rare blades once I get the Expansion pass

I think all your points are valid but I think you may have overlooked the overall fun factor of the game which I feel makes up for a majority of the problems/nitpicks. Like the overlapping voice lines is terrible but the memetic value is God tier. I expected that you'd have a problem with some of the blade designs but Im surprised you didnt mention the lack of male blades too xD! Anyway, I feel like an 8 would have been a better score but Im glad you brutally gave it a 7 because the game DEFINITELY needed to stay in the oven a bit longer - at no point in time did I think they would meet the 2017 release window and it definitely shows that they had to rush it to make that date. Great review though, Monolithsoft needs to release Pelica as the DLC blade....that would be worth the entire $30 alone xD!
i have noticed that the grafix's looked way better in held held mode and on tv it wasn't that kind of good to me but the game it self was god tho
thats weird since the resolution is absolutely awful in handheld mode. I think it drops below 360p at times
