Learning chords is just developing a bit of muscle memory, kinda like learning to type - but easier.. getting used to transitions can be easier if you try, for instance with a C, plant your index finger on the 2nd string, and then just kinda slam your 2nd and 3rd fingers onto the 3rd and 4th strings. Transition to a D by planting your 3rd finger on the 2nd string and slamming 1st and 2nd fingers on 1st and 3rd strings -- etc -- it will help you make smoother transitions starting out, and you will quickly develop the muscle memory to make chords almost without thinking. Start with something easy. Like, "Knocking on Heavens Door" is just G - D - C. You can find lyrics with chord notations online. Just sing the song (out loud or in your head) and change chords according to the notations above specific words, while strumming in a rhythm reminiscent of the song. It takes a lot to be a Keith Urban or an Jimi Hendrix - but if you just want to strum the rhythm of a couple songs around a camp fire, there's no reason you couldn't be off an running with 2 or 3 songs in a day or two of practice - maybe 4-6 hours to learn how to strum a basic 3 chord song fluidly - if you want to play lead it'll be more difficult -- even easier learn a A and an Em - start with an A and you can strum out a reasonable rendition of "A Horse With No Name" with just those two basic chords - the simplest chords to make (and transition -- really!! easy)

Corona virus -19 ... quarantined at home .... finally time to practice ... so shall I learn to play acoustic guitar. Grandmother 62 years old, gonna cross it off my bucket list. Just stumbled across Keith Urbans learning videos today after trying some others. Well ... not only is he one of my favorites, he is so darn nice to look at! Thank you Keith for coming down to this level, and thinking about and sharing your time with those with the playing desire. You are so patient, calm and explain things very well. I am seventy-four years old. I began learning guitar at six years old, sixty-eight years ago and still learning!! I tell many that are learning to play that "you learn more by accident than you do on purpose." However, I have learned many things since I discovered your fabulous videos on TH-cam a couple of days ago. I will tell other "learners" of my discovery. Great job Keith! I think the method you came up with is very thorough and simple to follow. The last half is great! The solo with the guitar played by the singer is a step towards playing with friends around a camp fire . . . then, next you show us someone being in a band . . . then, you give us a chance to practice to play and sing lead within the backup of a real band! It's just a great way to lead us, your viewers, into the different venues or possibilities of playing that one could find themselves in. Like after an evening of playing softball . . . then partying out afterwards . . . soon it's time to bust out the old 6-string and play some sing-a-long songs. Just great stuff Keith, thx!

Hello. I play guitar for about 40 years I am 57. 5 years ago I have started playing the piano which is at the begining a far more "easy" instrument to play in comparison with the guitar . So I played a lot on the piano and guess what ? = I had a serious injuries at the thumb of each hand. It is called Quervain tendinite. I was obliged to stop totally. Now I am better even if there is a pain sometimes at the thumb of my left hand. I still play the guitar and I fear to start again piano. So take care if you go over your physical limits and psychological limits also. If you want to learn 30 songs in 30 days I say it is impossible or dangerous. Imagine I want to invite The Queen of England for a tea at my home.....she would probably accept on the spot.... "With pleasure Dear Philippe, and guess what ...? Love this lesson! The simplified version played at 11:33 is perfect for adding this song to your repertoire. It's a nice short tune with only three verses, and the finger-picking part is do-able, just keep practicing. At first, I slowed it down to 75%, makes it easier to catch the strumming rhtyhm.

I know some of the chords but I just don't know how to move my fingers fast enough but I see enough but I will practice and thank you for your video Love the way you teach🙂🙃😉
One trick is to move your fingers from one chord to the next without strumming at all. Once you are comfortable with that, start adding one strum per chord then keep adding strums until you are playing the riff.
I got told about Keith teaching and he is great on slowing down it all and how a song is made up, I do have one question in this song he shows us strumming in one pattern, however, the guy at the end plays in a different so why is that?
