Not only an amazing artist you are a great teacher as well. I have been playing for 40 years and still learn from you Keith. Thank you for your humanness.
It takes a special person to be able to teach. A lot of talented people can perform their art extremely well but find it difficult to find the ability to teach that art. So not only are you an exceptional guitar player, you are also blessed with the ability and patience to teach that art. I'm sure your schedule is crazy busy, so taking the time out of your day to teach others something that you love is amazing by itself. You are talented in so many ways man. I have always been a fan but have found a new respect for you as a teacher. You may be teaching the next Keith, Eric, Brad or Eddie and not even know it. Keep up the good work and God bless.
Just found Keiths lessons so a bit late to the party, without a doubt an amazing teacher and player, we can all benefit thanks to the time he took to make these for us beginners. Thanks Keith.
Keith you are the best sir! Taking the time to teach guitar for your fans shows what a gentleman you are. And to allow us to play along is such a nice touch. I have lots of respect for you!
Very nice and unusual that such famous musician devotes part of his valuable time to teach absolute beginners how to play a guitar with so much patience and positive attitude. Admirable indeed!
Absolutely blown away! I love his music and now he’s teaching me to play guitar. This is what it’s like to go to heaven! Thanks a million Kieth! I have to go practise , I am old but feeling younger now!
This is the best site I have seen for beginning guitar. Hats off to Keith Urban for taking the time to teach people to actually enjoy the guitar no matter their talent. What a fantastic teacher.
this is a great lesson. wish i hit it earlier in my guitar playing journey. well done. I would pay for lessons like this. i don't use a pick but i'm okay with my fingers bleeding
I’ve been playing guitar for 50 years .. thank you for sharing & inspiration others to play this beautiful instrument.. I love the feeling of the strings on my fingers & nailing a riff of lead solo. My advice be patient, don’t rush, play slow for starters, get you fingers used to the chord shapes, you will eventually develop chord memory in your hands. You can do it! Practice, practice, practice!
Keith is a great teacher ! Everything he touches on is so important to address because it's really the main issues with anyone starting out playing guitar .Such a cool dude
I've been playing for my own pleasure for over 50 years, always learning new things, these lessons are really easy, and entertaining, to follow and play along with. I play guitar and banjo mostly, in various tunings. I enjoy your easy going teaching style which encourages pupils without looking down on them.
I know right. you wanna be jealous but ya just can't. even if you don't like his music Keith Urban is such a gentle soul you can't help but wish you were him. Preferably with the money, but even without the money. I wish I spoke as he does.
What an awesome human being! He’s amazing, and how incredibly kind for someone with his talent to take time to teach us. Thank you so much for posting this. Thank you to Keith for being a master of his craft, and for being thoughtful, patient, and genuine in the way he teaches. This is beyond appreciated. Thank you. Much peace!
Dr. Christian Conte just a fyi, He didn’t take his time to teach anyone anything, this is a guitar lesson that comes with a “Urban” guitar. Its a cd pack, I bought one only because “He” said it was a good well made guitar, Turned out to be a laminated piece of j**k. I returned it a few days after receiving it. He would never take this much time for free, To do anything. Hope this helps. Btw look up the “Urban” guitar. You will see!
yeah, I'm thinking the same. In fact @#$%^ the money and @#$%^ the music. I wish I could just come across that gentle. Everybody thinks I'm angry even when I am not :/ I would give my left nut, nay. Both Buts to be perceived as such a gentle soul as this... I don't eve wanna call him Human its kind of an insult :O
!? I had the black cutaway, (acoustic), looks like the one he is using, “The Player” edition, they said it was select Sitka Top, and hand picked mahogany back and sides, Not true btw, it was all laminated, I took it to get set up, you know, lower the action, and set it up for my style playing, but while was at my local guitar shop, i asked a few questions about this specific guitar i brought in, and the guys there pointed out and showed me it was laminated. But Look man, dont let me persuade you not to get it, this guitar is “OK” if your just starting out, heck any guitar will do for that matter if ur brand new to guitar, I was only stating that this isn’t Keith UrBan sitting just loading videos to teach people for free, this is a part of a multi part set, that came with those “Player Series” guitar from HSN. I ended up returning it, and just bit the bullet and bought a Martin HD-28,
@@chrism.4600 No brother, I'm not discrediting you in anyway! I was surprised, because the guitar he's playing on here actually looks like a solid guitar with all the inlays and stuff so I was surprised! Funny you mentioned the hd28, I was deciding between that and the d18 modern deluxe and went with the modern deluxe because I fell in love with the neck shape, the look of it, and the modern appointments. How much did the urban guitar run?
Such a relaxed and informative lesson, Keith is a natural educator with encouraging and positive delivery and presentation. I wish all my tutors in life had been like this cool chilled out dude. Happy to impart his knowledge and have fun whilst doing it. He addressed all the concerns I had as a beginner. The chords sound ok but the song comes alive when his voice kicks in. The various stages broken down, allow you to piece it all back together but with the new found knowledge of how it's supposed to fit. Great work guys, from the video production to the tab progressions.
Howdy Kieth,i first met you up in Tamworth back in 1991 you backed me on a few Hank Williams and Slim Dusty songs, with a lady on the keyboard,i can't think of her name,i was up there with Jack Munting one of the Tasmanian country pioneers, and loved the way you played that guitar and your music and still do,,you do a great job my friend thank you for sharing these lessons, stay safe and God Bless, Don Maroney
Hey, your the best man! I hope that one I can meet up with you and shake your hand and talk about guitars and bend a few strings, but till then keep on playing.
Nice job, Mr Urban. I like the room you are in. Good collection of guitars and amps. Thanks for taking your time to get aspiring musicians up and running. I like your songs. Best wishes to you and your family.
Keith is 110% right... Take your time. Your fingers will know where to go automatically "IN TIME"... Your fingers will also get sore and hurt, but that goes away in time also. But always use finger tips, not finger pads!!! Time and practice are the key words, and develop your own style. What works for you!!!
Guitar Pilgrim does this song and he says Fogerty plays it on a guitar tuned down two steps so the D chord is actually an E, it gives it a fuller sound.

The best and most friendly guitar lesson I ever watched. Meanwhile I am in the sixties but I have been playing this old CCR song since my student days. Unfortunately I am not a great guitar player and would be happy to play half as good as Keith Urban - not yet talking about the voice - but I learned quite soon that with just three chords and the associated minor chord you can probably play 80 percent of all songs, and with a guitar you are the king at all campfires. Singing Bad Moon Rising in D major however may be quite challenging, therefore I always used to play this song in G major, along with C and D chords, which you can perfectly complement with D7 and C7 chords and also using some single strings.
Great lesson. I really like the “you’re the player” portion at the end. It really shows you the difference between holding your own, and playing your part of the song, versus just playing along with the entire track on the radio.
Holy Guacamole!!! Keith Urban's teachin me to play guitar!!! How frickin cool that!??!??......I'll tell ya......more than icebergs in the Antarctic!!!!
Keith...thank you thank thank you for telling like it is...sore fingers the lot. I needed to hear this when I first started playing 30 years ago and I just thought it was me being a baby about it all. But as you explained its all perfectly normal when you first start. too many people give up the first few days becuase of sore fingers. Thanks dude for the great lesson...you are a truly masterful player..clean and precise!!
I just started playing 2 months ago to the day on an electric guitar. I''ve only recently started working on chords, strumming and chord progression. I tried chords in the beginning but I literally could not practice beyond about 2-3 minutes of playing due to finger pain. So, while I knew the shape of ADE and G, I didn't play/practice them for just under 2 month but instead worked on scales (A minor pentatonic and Blues) up and down the entire fretboard as well as learned some easy licks. It was much more "gentle" on my fingertips. But over the 2 months my finger tips have toughened up. Today I played/practiced chords, strumming patterns, various simple chord progressions for over 60 minutes non-stop. I stopped after that, not so much because of pain but fingers were getting tired. Had one of my best days today as far as progressing with chords which I really just started working on about 5 days ago...along with using a metronome. Once your fingers toughen up and lose nerve sensitivity is when you can really have fun practicing as well as a greater level of accomplishments. I haven't even yet learned any songs on the guitar after two months....well a few simple one involving mostly picking rather than chords. But now I plan to get Bad Moon Rising down!
i am impressed! Nooo...is he the who is teaching? my respcets to Keith! wow atthe end there is a backing track!!! Great musician and great educator, very charismatic!! you have my respect forever! By the way, I loved your version of Brand new man!

He plays so well that he can even make a wrong d chord sound right. Oops! Sorry, had to edit some more as i watch this video. OMG! This video is very well made and it stars a quality human being with awesome sense of humor. I'm loving it.
Very clear. Of course real song has two guitars - one playing kind of the same as Keith played and the other has a guitar tuned down 1 tone and he is playing E-B-A shapes (but because downturns it ends up as D-A-G). Added this to show, you can basically play same thing and really make it sound different with little tricks when you get in band situ.
If your fingers hurt, you can buy a product called Finger Ease and spray it on the strings. Removes a bit of the friction. Maybe better to just toughen them up a bit, but may help if it’s unbearable.
String 4,3,2 is D,G,B which is the G chord. So you don’t even need to fret anything for G chord in the first part of the song which makes it way easier for beginners.
Omgosh.. tku for nailing my biggest obstacle, switching chords.. GAME CHANGER ! I’ve heard this but I’ve always carried so much doubt of my ability. I’m now feeling hopeful 🙏💕
i just came across this! Where have I been> I have two guitars and plink. I just cant get it. I think I give up too early. Going to go through this with you . thanks Keith!

Very good guitarist and teacher
Thanks Keith! Great video with some really good tips.
Wow learning guitar with Keith Urban - pretty cool!!
Hey cool...u really teach me how to play the guitar.... unbelevable... GB
One of my favorite tunes to play.
