a great example of how the trumpet can be used for subtle musical expression and not just pyrotechnics. Arturo can play ANYTHING, but this is a great example of pure musicianship. Wonderful.
Good god! That tone is like aural butter. I thought he was on flugelhorn, this man truly is an inspiration. Never mind the ripping high notes and amazing clean runs. His mastery of tone is unlike anything I’ve ever heard.
I agree 100% on this. As he demonstrates many times changing your instrument and mouthpiece will only change your tone very marginally as your core sound will always be that. He says he plays what he hears in his head and very few trumpeters have the ability to do that. Have a listen to the live version of Zane on TH-cam and shut your eyes you would think he was playing flugelhorn too.
The synthesizer seemed like an odd choice at first, but the cat really makes use of the expression/modulation to give it an emotive quality. I appreciate it more and more each listen.
The best trumpet jazz version performance of this beautiful song. Arturo plays masterfully in every aspect. Pure musical performance by him-not a better jazz trumpet performance of this classic no one played this better.
That just may be the best version of Here's That Rainy Day I've ever heard! To be able to play a ballad like that...! His sound... ugh!! Not to mention the ability to hold back like that. His lines were gorgeous. I'm a sax player and I think I may have to transcribe that whole thing (ear, not notation). Hopefully I can do it even a remote amount of justice. Wow... That was entire master class right there.
I agree 1,000%! Definitely the best version ever. So much feeling, phrasing, breathing, and his sound is so velvety, it's pushing flugelhorn-ish. And yes - the holding back - that's some real expert timing there.
@@IMunoz_momentum again !!!!!!! Another genius critic making a contest out of artists endeavours. Why not appreciate and keep quiet. If you want a contest go to a football game.
There needs to be a love thumbs up, Arturo, this is some of the most gorgeous playing I have ever heard. Anyone who hits the thumbs down feature knows nothing about music, because this is one of the most elegant, gorgeous musicians sound on the trumpet I have ever had the pleasure of hearing.
I've been listening to Arturo for over 10 years. He keeps getting better. The sound is fatter, richer, more moving. Thanks Diz for giving the world this talent. I'll never get enough. This tune proves you don't have to play high notes to emote great feeling. It's beautiful
I've been honored to play a number of Sandoval pieces growing up, including one with him as a clinician. He just embodies jazz- he can go from playing incredible notes at virtuosic speeds and ranges in stuff like Night in Tunisia and then play this and just bring everyone back down to earth with his lovely understanding of ballads. Truly a one of a kind talent.
Bellísima interpretación , de una también bellísima pieza de Van Heusen, cuando la escucho olvido todo lo malo y me voy de luna de miel con la vida misma.
I may only say thank you to. Señor Sandoval and WWW for letting me having the chance to appreciate such universal beautiness of geniusness by a CQC digital experienece.
I felt in love with jazz with the video of Arturo playing There will never be another you in this same channel. I'm so happy about having this new video here.
The warmest most beautiful sound I have ever heard from a trumpet. At the very beginning before seeing him playing a trumpet I expected to see him with a fluegelhorn.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
el maestro Arturo Sandoval ,,,,lo mas grande para mi en carácter de trompetas latinas ,,,,, gracias maestro por entregarnos tanto talento ,,,,, y la sonoridad latina ,,,,puesta en cada una de sus notas,,,,
Ampunn, keren banget. Komposisinya aja udah cakep + great musicians. Bravo, Bang Sandoval. I watched your performance at Jamz Pub, Jakarta, Indonesia sometime on 90's. My late wife who did not know about jazz before i married her, but by always taking her to Jamz Pub she began to like jazz and liked Mr. Sandoval performance and other jazz musicians and compositions. She passed away on 13 July 2021 because breast cancer.
Arturo exercises such command over his time feel. Whether he’s laying back or anticipating, he’s always so clear about it and he’s always right on. Stunning.
Arturo, had a great time watching your performance at the Palm Springs Jazz Festival! Thanks for taking the time to talk with me for a bit after a late night. - Alvaro
Great musicianship is not always about how much power you can summon, how many notes you can throw into a phrase, or how high those notes might be. Sometimes, great music happens with the lights turned way down low, a feathery-light touch lovingly caressing the nuanced flavor of an incredibly romantic offering from the Great American Songbook, like this one composed by the great Jimmy Van Heusen with equally haunting lyrics from the pen of the incomparable Johnny Burke. There is no question why it was Johnny Carson's favorite song, or a fixture on the Stan Kenton Orchestra book, or why a gigantic talent like Arturo Sandoval would seek to sink his prodigious chops into this truly evocative ballad.
Agreed. Sandoval makes every note count. The pianist is also excellent, and the guy on synthesizer is exceptional. I've been listening to jazz for 70 years, and this is superb.
Wow! So, thaaaat's how you play a trumpet. Arturo once mentioned liking that airy Til Bronner type sound. Here's that day. Here's that sound. Here's my new favorite version of Here's That Rainy Day.
My dream in life is to get a clinic with Arturo. Maybe even a concert with a small jazz group. Some time just us to play and work on stuff. He is an engaging and amazing musician. He's my inspiration to play the trumpet.
he was at the UD Trumpet Day in Dayton, OH a few years ago. Asked attendees to come up and play something. He worked with each brave soul, listening, encouraging, coaching. Then took time with his friend Dr Ed Calle to explain what they were thinking and doing in specific jazz structures ... all while demonstrating it with the UD jazz band. It was awesome.
Chris MacManus If you're still out there-yes, it's a beautiful rendition, but give this version a shot. Tommy Newsome, Doc Severance, and Ed Shaunessy in a tribute to Carson when he died. You have no heart if this arrangement doesn't at least dampen your lamps. th-cam.com/video/DFac_omWrBg/w-d-xo.html
As many times as I've listened to Arturo in concerts and online, I can never get over the sound of his playing. Like many of the great players there is one thing we can all appreciate; his adaptability. When I was first introduced to Arturo Sandoval, I was researching him and Dizzy Gillespie playing Night in Tunisia and exactly how Dizzy made it. In his career, Arturo played it many times, each showing off his power, range, and technical prowess. But the smoother jazz pieces are where he really shines because a lot of people ridicule him for only being a "higher, faster, louder" player which I personally don't agree with. Every note he plays can send you into a mirage of a rainy day, and very few even in the jazz world can really do that. I absolutely love what he does, and he is a role model to younger trumpet players who are discovering who they want to sound like, or how they want to sound like. Please Mr. Sandoval, keep playing and continue to pull us into beautiful music and inspire us to make ourselves move forward in our own musical prowess!
Absolutely beautiful. No showing off just pure commitment to the music and the context. A completely different side to Arturo that we don't get to see often!
a great example of how the trumpet can be used for subtle musical expression and not just pyrotechnics. Arturo can play ANYTHING, but this is a great example of pure musicianship. Wonderful.
Thanks for watching Greg!
Greg Burris I remembered many years ago he said
The trumpet can make sleep a baby like it can wake up a battalion
Great ! But I dont think he is used to playing this soooooooft .notes are all not perfect. But loved it regardless
Concur, Greg.
@@da11king I would say those notes are meant to sound just like that, not perfect which made it perfect.
Props to the synth player! Gorgeous piano solo too.
Dave Siegel na syntezatorze - coś wspaniałego !👍
Not many things are better than a jazz ballad with a horn....kick back, close yer eyes and dream of days gone by......
This is how a trumpet should be played. Smooooooth.........
Though Arturo can flat-out SCREAM when he wants to, this video shows his true artistry. Great sound, creativity, and beauty.
He made that trumpet sound like a flugelhorn! The greatness of
Mr Sandoval.
Trabajar escuchando al gran maestro Sandoval hace que el tiempo pase de manera gratificante...
Nothing better than listening to this great song and the great Arturo.Absolutely heavenly!!!!

Especially now with the very sad passing of Roy Hargrove.
The best trumpet jazz version performance of this beautiful song. Arturo plays masterfully in every aspect. Pure musical performance by him-not a better jazz trumpet performance of this classic no one played this better.

With all my respect to maestro Sandoval and his awesome play, that guy on Yamaha synth made my day. He sounded so nostalgic.
Waw what a mellow warm sweet tone Arturo has aged so beautifully, from his young fire to a older slower glowful longer burn.
best trumpet tone on earth
ABSOLUTELY DEVINE,SIMPLY THE BEST ALWAYS , THK U ARTURO!!!
How can someone get that much soul and pure emotion from just a twisted piece of brass? Amazing!
The piano solo is perfect 👌
He's a living legend of the trumpet!!!! Amazing performance!!!!
I've watched this so many times and the dude on the keys still cracks me up. It's like a cameo from the 90s. Cool solo tho
Gotta love that TONE and style! So tender and loving! Talented and and intelligent!🎉
Felicitaciones Maestro Arturo Sandoval.brillante interpretación.

I used to frequent that place often in the late 80s , early 90s. Back then there was no cover.....just a dinner (or drink minimum in balcony)
So good!
Giving credit to all.. but that Bass though. Simply just amazing.
