    It breaks my heart every time I watch these vids of 4th gen Mazda 3 hatchbacks. I bought one in 2019 when they first came out. It was the "base" trim which wasn't "base" by any means. It was beautiful and very very well equipped. I was in love with it and I had it for 3 years before financial crisis struck me hard and forced me to sell it. During ownership and throughout the 45000 miles I put on it, I had zero complaints. It was always fun to drive! I wish it was a manual transmission but it wasn't available in that trim. I researched this car to death and I discovered so many cool features that it comes with that the dealership didn't even mention. One strange but fun quirk was the mysterious "turbo whistle" sound it would make under medium acceleration from first to second gear. I never heard anything as to what caused the noise but everyone I met with the same exact model without mods, experienced the same sound. I dug further into it and discovered the charcoal filter in the intake. Suggestions of removing that pre-filter seemed harmless and worth my curiosity. Results were quite unnoticeable. Then I replaced the factory air filter with a K&N drop-in filter and that's when I felt and heard a significant difference. Immediate acceleration or from a dig, was noticeably improved and the intake sound or whistle was a bit more noticeable. Enough to put a grin on my face. I miss that thing dearly but once I get back on my feet, it'll be the turbo or premium with manual transmission.

    I have a 2022 mazda 3 with the 6mt with about 15k on it now that I bought new. I before this I was dailying my other car which is a 2008 rx8. Here are my thoughts. The shifter is smooth smooth. Like butter then a little tactile click and the end to let you know your in gear. The cluch is nice there is some feel right at the bite point so you dont cant miss it. The biggest issue I have with it is the gearing in 1st and 2nd. The 1 gear is crazy short and the 2nd is way to long. If you try and shift under like 3700 rpm it drops you well under 2000 almost like 1500 range. So I constantly find my self waiting for the rev hang to drop so I can shift smoothly into second. I found that the rest of the upshifts dont suffer from this problem. On my rx8 all the gears used to be so short I could just ride around in second all the time at 3500. I find myself sitting at 4000 in the mazda 3 in parking lots just to not have to shift to second lol. Other then that the mazda 3 premium trim is amazing. I have taking this car on multiple road trips. Malibu, Vegas, Big Bear, etc... It is comforible, reflined, and has great handling for a fwd hatchback. Also the radar curze control for the manual is amazing and down/upshifting doesnt interupt it. Effective turning the car into an automatic on long hwy drives. edit also for gas mileage I get about 28 on my normal day to day which is mixed driving. On long drives such as my vegas trip i got around 34 with cruze control at 75.

    You don't buy a car like this if you need a real back seat. If you want a back seat get the Mazda 3 Sedan version (same if you want better rear visibility (although modern cars do have cameras, so I don't know why seeing out the back window is all that important).
    This version is basically a 2 seater, but I appreciate the back as a way to lower insurance premiums and that occasional friend that you need to throw in the back.
    By the way, i drove a Isuzu Impulse with a manual transmission and a Honda CRX with a manual transmission in the 80s and 90s for years in the snow in Rochester, NY with only front wheel drive and all-season radials. If I hadn't been so lazy and stuck snow tires on them it would have been even better.

    I own a 2022 Mazda 3 Astina manual - very similar to the car tested. In Australia it does come with rear air vents (and the 2022 model also has the cupholder cover in the front!). On the other hand, we don't even get offered the opportunity to buy AWD or Turbo versions...
    The car is delightful to drive. With the manual transmission it is very easy to balance the car in a corner on the throttle... I can always ensure that I am in the right gear for what I want to do next. In traffic... there's a bit of work... but a well-driven manual will almost always beat a DCT or automatic across an intersection...
    I'm averaging 7.7 litres / 100 km (30.5 miles per US gallon or 36.7 miles per UK gallon) with a mix of urban and rural driving. On the open road (sitting on 110 km/h - 68 mph), it consumes 6 litres / 100 km (39 mpUSg).

    I have now done 474kms on my new GTX 2.5 Hatch. I am now starting to get use to the blind spot thingie. What cheese me off is getting out of a parking. The system screams worst than my mother in law. It goes into panic mode and slams on the brakes for no reason. For the rest, It will take time to adjust to a lower car. My VW Passat has a very comfortable suspension. This car has more of an sporty one. What I did realize is: this car can stick through a corner like a fly on cow s%$t. I realy appreciate it. The feedback on the steering is very nice. At 1st, I felt claustrophobic, but now I do not feel it anymore. The paint is prone to chips. I do not know whether it is normal, but mine doesn't like the 1st 3kms. It has this funny jerky feeling from the engine. Stuttering untill you drive 3 kms then it becomes smooth. Is that common????

    • @Stclairm1
      @Stclairm1 ปีที่แล้ว

      What kinds of problems did you have with the GTI? I'm in the market and drove the SE and 40th and didn't like the ride, thought the engine sounded pretty gross, and my right leg stayed against the console. I drove a S model a couple of years ago (new body), and remembered liking it much better. Must be the 18" tires.

    • @Glitch88Gamers
      @Glitch88Gamers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Stclairm1Car has tire hop that I found gets remove with some better tires, and to me 1st to 2nd was always an issue, it never shifts smoothly and you catch yourself always having a bit of a grinding shift in those gears. That said the SE does come with 19s vs the S having 18s and from what I heard the car just doesn’t drive as well with 19s, definitely on the mark with your statement.
      Engine is a little lacking for noise to me as well I ran a catless dp and 3inch catback but I still didn’t feel fully satisfied.
      That said the rest of the car to me has so many pros on top of the mileage and cargo, it has been a beautiful all rounded car. It is so versatile, economical, and still have aftermarket support to dig out a little more fun on the thing, even capable of swapping the turbo for the bigger IS38 in the Golf R. It’s just a great platform meant for the financially conscious car enthusiast. A huge plus is how short the wheelbase of the car is and surprisingly you can fit into a lot of parking spaces you would think wouldn’t be possible.
      Just my little 2 cents but I’d be happy to talk more and good luck!

    I got to test drive one with 50k miles on it. I don't know if maybe if was never fully broken in but the clutch was stiff it was basically an on/off switch. Even as someone who drives manual at least once a week. I struggled to get a smooth start. Maybe it just wasn't broken in properly but it wasn't the same as my dad's Mazda 3 stick. The throw was great though. As he said very notchy

    • @kenworkshop
      @kenworkshop ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a break in issue, so much as a broken one. Someone must have wrecked the clutch. When the fingers of the pressure plate get hot they harden and become stiffer. This is likely what you felt. Needs a clutch. The 3 is one of the softest clutches i've driven. The box is a little notchy, but nothing like a E36 bmw (now that's notchy!)

    Great video! Thank you for the ackowledgement at the end. I'm the owner of this vehicle. I thought I clean the interior well but it still looks dirty under close-in camera😂Zack is a great guy to work with! He is super friendly and we had a nice coversation! I would definitely recommend working with him if you have an interesting vehicle!
    Several things about the vehicle: I did not know about the cupholders before I got the vehicle as well. When I first receive the car I was like where are those cupholder caps??? But from your video I feel like the updated cupholder is a little deeper than the old design, which might hold drinks I little more stable. If you have a 44oz Sonic drink, the top of the cup is right under the AC control, so it's a little hard to grab while driving.
    The USB port under AC control, I know Doug Demuro compained about it does not have a cover. At first I used that for phone connection and I didn't mind, but later I found the redundant cord is in the way of shifting gears, so I changed to use the port in center console storage. And now it looks a little weird without a cover... So I found a wireless mouse receiver I don't use to cover it...
    In the center console storage there is a wireless charger, which I don't understand why it's there since it's usually covered by a lot of stuff.
    Interesting fact is the front license plate holder is different from the sedans. When I got this car it did not come with it and I spent two months trying to find one. Some dealerships said they had it but it turned out to be for the sedans. BTW the front license plate definitely ruins the front look.

Great sporty compact, but not a great compact to own because of that fuel economy and the price is higher than competition. The best thing about this car is the NA engine as that is probably the last in class with this much power.

    I have the 2019 manual and love it. I’m glad Mazda actually gave the manual option in the top trim as opposed to a base trim, why should automatic people only get to have all the luxuries! That being said, the biggest downside which ruins the driving feel for me, is that the brakes in my car, have a buzzing feeling when braking between 3000 and 2000 RPM. It’s not a brake rotor warped feeling which I am well knowledgeable about, it’s a buzzing sensation, almost as if you’re stepping on a vibrating smartphone. Dealers always tell me they can’t feel it. Wondering if you felt during your drive. I have noticed it in some automatic Mazdas when in sport mode. So it’s something in the Mazda braking system design having to do with engine speed and/or engine braking.

    I dont know but I think AWD is oversold, costly to buy and maintain, and cuts into MPG. Then there is the issue of tires of the same wear must be on the same axle. I avoid AWD and prefer a manual to an AT. Also, I now avoid turbos (and yes Ive owned a few turbo powered cars). 190 HP via a naturally aspirated engine is more than enough to get you where youre going. I love the car, however, I have a question. I have had the car since it came from the factory, with only 3 miles on it. It now has 28k and it jerks/lurches in slow-moving traffic and at parking lots. Is this normal? I've been to 4 different dealers and they have told me that it's normal. A couple of local shops have given me the same answer. I have the 2021 Mazda 3 Premium Hatchback AWD. Apparently it has to do with cylinder deactivation? I highly doubt it's that though because my model does not have it, as confirmed with my VIN. I don't have a clue as to what it could be, especially since everyone says its normal. But it doesn't FEEL normal. No error codes, no lights on the dash, no problems. Just a weird feeling. 31.1 mpg is also insane. I average 27.5, which is apparently the norm for the car. As for rear visibility, I actually have no issues with it. I can't seem to have the problems you have with that.

      My Civic does the same thing. I think it's just part of driving a manual transmission.

    Genuinely surprised if anyone expects a car by the Miata company to not have a good shifter.

    If they put rev match downshifting on the manual…man it would pack such a punch. Idec ab the turbo its too much power. The new 2.5 N/A makes 190hp that’s more than enough and higher for the class.

    Which one do you think has a better manual transmission, this Mazda 3 or a 2023 Civic Sport Hatchback (NA)?

      I can't say about the Mazda but I test drove a new Civic and the 6MT felt way, way too stiff and notchy for my liking and the clutch is way too light to the point it feels like a toy. I have no idea why reviewers praise it up so much.

    I remember driving the base 2021 2.5 mazda 3 automatic , well the engine was really trashy, then i drove the premuim 2021 model 2.5 mazda 3 automatic and was much more refined and not trashy i guess u have to pay more to get that premium feel and refinement🥺 but im happy with my 2019 CX3 automatic is much more refined believe or not than my old 2016 mazda 3 2.0 automatic and maybe even more faster. But in my opinion the 2016 mazda 3 had better fuel economy.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE a good manual transmission car with a goor naturally aspirated engine. I hope and pray EVs and hybrids are a fad that will go away once a same congress lowers the cafe standards. Hydrogen cars are the future anyway.

      I think it looks more European. It reminds me a bit of the classic Lancia Fulvia Zagato.
      I have an AWD automatic a step down in trim from this. I wanted a manual but needed to buy a car in a hurry during the inventory shortage period and had to take what I could find (my prior car was totaled in an accident). I keep getting tempted to upgrade for a manual but now live in Michigan and the AWD with winter tires is absolutely fantastic. Frankly, I don’t miss any of the premium options other than the manual and the available red color. It’s hard to justify the higher price and higher interest rates now just for that. I hope Mazda continues to offer something like this when it’s time for me to get another car. My dream would be a new Mazda6 wagon with a manual trans, but I imagine that is near an impossibility.
