If, for any reason, the hot or neutral wires get pulled free from the connector, the green safety ground wire will remain connected to continue providing electrical safety in case the free hot wire comes in contact with a metal surface. I hope that explains it.

I don't recall if you ever said anything about why you make the green wire longer?

Use the flat side (cutter) to the outside you can see the line were you need to cut

I had to put ends on a cat6 cable to bring WiFi in my shop and those little suckers will try your patience!
