    It’s amazing to see how far you have come in such little time. Still remember your first flight as a licensed pilot in your Cessna 150. Congratulations on your commercial and the angel pilot thing sounds great! Blue skies and tail winds my friend.

    Nice demo of the GFC 500. I’m having one installed as we speak, along with a G3X and 750Xi in my Cardinal. As a retired USAF pilot and current 777 Capt, I really like the way you manage the airplane and systems. Very professional. If I may offer a suggestion - consider removing some of the items from the airplane key. The additional weight and vibration can cause premature wear on the ignition switch which can lead to bad things (i.e. a hot prop with the key removed). And congrats on your commercial!

    I'm a 65C owner with a new panel. Two 275's a garmin 375, and the garmin 500. Love the 500, it truly has changed the flying experience.

    Your missed approach/GA issue is a settings issue. I flew with a guy who has a Baron with similar issues. His GA setting was approximately 10° where it should be closer to 7°. Not sure what angle in a Mooney gives you Vy, but that’s what you need. An avionics shop can set it for you. Whether or not the autopilot stays engage when hitting the GA button might be a setting too? I fly a G1000 that disconnects AP and a G1000nxi that stays engaged. Great to do all this VFR like you’re doing. No surprises when IMC.

    Love the dual G5, GFC 500, and GTN 750 setup. Paired with ForeFlight and you've got everything you could want for flying XC. I am doing G3X with GTN 750 and GFC 500 so I was glad to see your tutorial here, looks super simple. Congrats on the commercial certificate!

    Nice airplane. I had dual G5s and the GFC500 installed about 2 years ago in my Cherokee and love it ! I’m based out of KCEU , so not far !

    Great to see another fantastic video from you! Great panel, most important to me is the fact that your plane is so much safer with than without. See you in the next one! 👍

    I do the same thing for audio. I’ve tried so many adapters, recorders, etc. with continuous issues. The mic in the earcup plugged into the GoPro works pretty well, especially if you remember to put in in there! Congrats on the new rating.

    My mates Piper lll has the GFC 500 coupled with c3x display. Go around is set at about 7.5° pitch up. Take it back to the radio shop and get them to correct it. It will be a setting in the software.

    My partners & I have a GFC500 in our Cherokee 235 and I *LOVE* it. Prior to this I didn't have an airplane with an AP. So I did all of my instrument training hand flown. GFC500 makes instrument flying so much easier. I've now added working autopilot to my list of personal requirements for single pilot IFR. What an massive increase in safety.
    Unfortunately we don't have VNAV in our GNX 375 GPS. That looks like a really nice feature. Nevertheless still love the AP.
    As far as missed approach, I know garmin says to hit the TOGA button first, but I prefer to go full power first, then quickly hit TOGA. Full power suspends my descent and then TOGA initiates the climb. But since I'm full power it isn't as crazy steep. After I'm established in a climb, I switch to NAV & IAS to take me to my missed altitude. Maybe give that a try on a practice approach?

    Can you detail the costs for the other boxes in the plane. BTW I am a CFI and only ever did it part time. I understand your thoughts about wanted to be fully devoted to your students and that’s why I only had instrument students. Ha, I too was an AngelFlight pilot first in my 1963 Aztec and then. In the 201.

    I had a Mooney E without autopilot and it sucks when doing long distance trips. Especially when going over farms for you are consistently retrimming for up and down drafts. I just bought a 201 and that's one of the first things I am going to install.

    Just subscribed and new to the channel. Nicely presented Tom. I fully agree with you about the cost and benefits of the GFC 500. $19K installed with new servos and flawless integration with a capable GPS: that's a good investment on many levels. Cheers and congratulations on passing the commercial certificate.

    Great video, I love my GFC500, 2 G5,s and GPS175, unfortunately the GPS175 has limitation.
    Not related to the GFC500. I have a question regarding the shoulder belts what brand are they?
    I have a Cherokee 180 and I like the idea of shoulder belts instead of over the head. Thanks

    Getting your add on multi to your commercial is easy when you’re ready. I’d recommend a package deal like several places offer. For $3-4k you get it done in two days, about 6-8 hours of multi time training and the checkride. You’d make a good CFI, even if part time. Good luck.

  • @777SHW

    So, when you were talking about flying to Florida, you mentioned about being on AP. Don’t you still need to use your rudders for coordinating flight? You mentioned you put your seat back, etc. How do you still maintain coordination with 2-axle AP?

    • @Tommyflies
      @Tommyflies  ปีที่แล้ว

      The roll rate of the AP is slow enough you don’t need rudder. You could kick the rudder if you want but there’s really no need.

    • @cessna177flyer3

      In my Cardinal, the ailerons are rigged such that the up-going aileron deflects more than the down-going aileron, thus eliminated adverse yaw. During cruise I fly with my feet flat on the floor.

  • @NimblyJimbly
    @NimblyJimbly 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Ps… with the audio issues you mentioned, were they happening when the camera was running off battery, or only when plugged into plane power?
    If the issue is only happening when plugged into plane power, it may be a ground loop issue. Should be able to resolve it with some ferrite cores.

  • @PghGameFix
    @PghGameFix 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I may be wrong, but you should still talk to ATC to do the practice approach to make sure no one else is coming into it. (Regardless if it's an uncontrolled field) But, god vid. I'm working on commercial right now, and we have a plane coming back this week with this AP being installed. Should be fun to fly with. (Have a bunch of xcountrys to do)

    Where did you get you GFC installed? Also, the GFC 500 is a very nice autopilot but it is in no way equivalent to the autopilot(s) on transport category aircraft.

    Yeah id say you don't need the YD, considering there's interconnect in the rudder with the ailerons. Very well equipped Mooney and anything else in the panel added would be considered overkill(some guys with 2x750s and a gps xpndr, just crazy). For full jet level capable a/p that is a pretty fair price even more so in the recent economy

      I’ve not flown the G3X in real life so hard to say. The GTN 750 paired with the G5’s and the GFC500 is awesome tho. More than you need in a Mooney IMO

    • @Tommyflies
      @Tommyflies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t forget you can save your flaps and gear until your base turn (or whenever) and some DPEs will let you slip it in. It’s an aircraft mastery maneuver not an emergency maneuver (but some DPEs may not have that opinion so you’re better off to ask them first). Then, practice, practice, practice. Good luck 🤙

    I have the G5's, 750, and GMC500 in a Cherokee Six. On pushing the TOGA button I get a fairly gentle pitch up to about 7 degrees. Consider getting the pitch up adjusted if possible. The TOGA is very useful in keeping wings level and climb pitch untill time to push the NAV and Indicated airspeed buttonds for the missed appr.
