It's a great example of why Vince McMahon is not the "genius" everyone thinks he is. The guy had a couple of genius ideas and obviously knows how to handle money, but otherwise he's not all that brilliant. He probably likes everything scripted because he's a control freak, but doing that means nothing is genuine. You're not seeing the wrestler's personality, you're seeing the character that was written for them as if it was a movie. You can do it that way, but that's clearly not what most fans prefer. If they insist on having everything scripted, they should at least have the wrestler's heavily involved in the process.

Thus they changed their mind and tried to use him like 'just another guy' instead (hence wanting him to do promos). It's weird they always wanted to change Sabu but with RVD he went into WWF, and did all his chants and ring moves unimpeded and moved up to the top of that organization., or damn near it. Sabu was a gamechanger with his insane variety of aerial moves!! I feel blessed that I saw Sabu wrestle a good amount of times in his prime in person when he was in ECW.
WWE constantly tried to change RVD which is why he only had limited success as opposed to others despite being a fan favorite. He was never even considered heavyweight championship material until one night stand was conceived.
I've always been a fan of Sabu, but he never really belonged in WWE. His style of wrestling, his character, his personality - none of it is a good match for WWE. That isn't a knock on Sabu or WWE. It's just the reality of it.

Man he was so cool when he was in the WWE. It’s how I was introduced to him. I loved him along the likes of Jeff Hardy and Rey. I think he could’ve been a real threat if he was given free creativity over himself. I think the issue is that WWE didn’t know what kind of person he before contacting him and treated him like any other new roster member. A few of his ECW matches and ones in Japan should’ve earned him the right to at least have a say in what he wanted to do.

WWE Needs to go back old school let the wrestler or how they like to put talent put themselves into their character not just give them lines to read and memorize their lines just like an actor that's fine if you are doing a movie. The wrestler needs to be themselves it's more real and believable when they did that. Now they have to have scripts and also be politically correct when they speak. Plus they have blurred the line between heal and face so much you can't tell the difference and also the in ring story telling sucks. Another thing is they just using championship belts as props instead of making it important it's the number 1 thing to strive for. Belts nowadays are meaningless. Also when they got rid of kayfab hurt the business as a whole. I am glad that TH-cam shows old-school wrestling. I don't even watch what's on tv anymore. You can’t put it all on her. Wrestling just isn’t as popular as it used to be. Unfortunately Wrestling has become a niche genre. The fan base is now a dungeons & dragons , star trek crowd.

@@nomnomnommy2955 Was AEW around 20 years ago? No. These companies aren’t big, they’re nowhere near as big as WWE. I hardly describe Impact or NWA as thriving. AEW is doing good considering, but they got a very long way to go to be anywhere close to WWE.

Modern wrestling honestly sucks literally ecw and 80s wrestling is the only kind of wrestling I watch bc it wasn't predictable it wasn't so family friendly it was violent and real
Sabu was very over at this point too. WWECW was dead on arrival but WWE could have made money with Sabu still. He wasn’t gonna be champ or anything but so what. Very over mid card baby faces who are unique and sell merchandise are quite valuable believe it or not
Hopefully when aew fight forever comes around they will bring shine to these legends that never got to be a DLC pack or just in the game I think WWE try to get guys that say no at first in their game but when they're dead they tried to celebrate Legends then they put them in the game and reap all the benefits that's unfair an unjust
