Sandy, the pride you feel in your cabin is well earned and deserved. I am sure your mill has more than paid for itself. It is no small thing to cut the trees down, bunk them up, mill them into lumber and THEN build something so substantial with that lumber. The amount of labor to build a project like this by yourself not to mention the recording of the effort, wow. As for the ladder, there are a lot of options, and I am sure you will find one that works out great; even if it is just to leave it the way it is or to allow for removing it completely and hang it on the wall.
Yep, there's nothing in the world better than standing back and saying..., "I Built That!" Thus far, I've gone back and watched the first 37 videos of the build, so let me get back to watching the 'before' of what you've just shown us. Outstanding job, Sandy!!
Thanks for that Carl. When I go back and check out the old build videos I feel like I'm like a spring chicken with no beard and maybe slightly fewer pounds around the waist haha
Sandy, that's a fine little cabin. I think it's really cool that the majority of it is constructed from re-purposed site trees. Reminds me of some of the pioneer cabins I have seen in the States. I am impressed at the amount of components you have salvaged from other builds. I bet the view is absolutely beautiful in winter. Well done Sandy. You should rightfully be proud of your accomplishment. 👍
@@sawingwithsandy through bolt the ladder to the rail so you can swing it up and hook it to those rafters instead of rolling it, could put two notches in the floor for the feet or some nice rubber no slip caps
Just a simple and yet extraordinary piece of work. The fact that you did this totally from tree to finished cabin is a tribute to your skills. Love the bug bite wood! The only thing better would have been if it had had worm trails in it. Rustic and fabulous! Great job!
The thing I love about your videos is that you are so relatable to an average person. Pretty much anyone can do what you do easily enough without a lot of money but a lot of ambition. You should be so proud of what you've done. You're actually the inspiration of why I have a Woodland Mills sawmill, saw and build my own projects. Thank you Sandy!
I am only 1:07 into the video and I am already disappointed that I only get to leave ONE thumbs up! I don't even have to watch the whole video to know I'm gonna like.
Very nice Sandy!! I like your idea of hinging the ladder, at least if you have more than yourself there. A boat trailer winch would quickly and easily lift it out of your way, giving you a lot more usable space, and also a better out side view, while being able to be lowered if you are going to use the loft! I have a feeling that if you hinged the ladder, it would spend most of its time up and out of your way!
It's nice to see someone creating and doing it yourself. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it as long as your are satisfied. Perfect place to leave it all behind and enjoying it all. Keep on creating!!

Fantastic work! A lot of people aren’t happy unless they’ve either spent 45k or built it out of mud and sticks, very reasonable build with just enough to feel cozy!
Your cabin is beautifully unique and wonderfully practical, and wherever one's eye rests, meticulously precise craftsmanship is evident! Clearly very well thought out before wood was even cut, from the foundation to the roof ridge shows outstanding attention to detail. High quality materials combined with very high standards of workmanship make this uncluttered, light, bright and airy cabin really stand out! Imaginative, naturally beautiful and with the double, glazed doors bringing the outdoors inside, really quite magical. I find your lovely cabin to be elegantly simple and simply elegant. Your sense of pride is wholeheartedly justified, thank you for sharing your inspiring cabin.

Wow! I am so impressed. I''m new to this channel and I can tell how much you love your cabin. Brilliant idea regarding the ladder on wheels/bar to pull it to the side. That was bothering me until you explained it. You put a lot of thought and detail into this build. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us.
Awesome! When you get your smaller wood stove or as soon as you can (if you keep this one) make sure you put some kind of metal or brick behind the stove to protect the corner walls. Wood stoves are no joke! They will make you get nekkid..so freakin warm!
You should be proud. Well done and I am sure you get much enjoyment staying in your cabin. My wife and I built our own house and a few outbuildings, but did not mill any lumber. I would like to try something similar to what you have done. At 74 I need to pull the trigger on a mill and get going.
I just got finished with a cabin myself, and I know a little about craftsman ,and quality. You have a beautiful cabin and you can tell it's built with quality. I love it ,and you have a lot to be proud of. Thanks for the video!!
Super cool down to earth cabin and channel . Love it 😊. Just a note . There are two interesting foundation pier systems that are kinda super duper for small cabins and houses . One is a metal pier that spins ‘ drills into the ground . The other is code compliant and very crafty and cool . It’s a semi pyramid shaped cap about a foot square , 4 heavy hardened steel rods , about 4 feet long ,pass thru the cap at obtuse angles . The rods are driven into earth / rock with a jack hammer. Insanely neat for quick excellent foundation piers . 👍🏼 that may help a few folks . 😊
You did an excellent job with your little cabin I'm sure it took a lot of thinking and a lot of doing and it shows your skill level which is very high I have seen this before but it always is worth a second look great video Sandy
My grandfather used to say that there is nothing cozier than the sound of rain on the roof. I feel the same way. Your asphalt roof not only looks great but will be much more satisfying to listen to the rain patter on- metal sucks!!!!

Videos a year old, how many quests have you had stay in there? What a peaceful place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening whiskey.
You should be proud. Just such a cool place to unwind. Vaulted ceilings KO the small effect, nice work👍
Thanks I appreciate that!
I love your light switches
Hand made and very discrete
Welcome to the channel and glad you came along for the tour
Thanks for coming along for the tour Jim
Nice place to be alone in nature, away from the world and the noise of modern society. Good work ! 🙂👍
Thank you!
Love the verandah and the overhang on side. Makes so much sence
Thanks I appreciate that!
You did a great job with your cabin. 😊
SANDY all the best , Ziggy, Alberta ,nice to see progress ,
Thanks Ziggy
Great job. The only thing I'd add would be a small bump out for some sort of toilet.
That would do the trick Neal. Thanks for coming along for the tour
You need a place besides outside to prepare food. A corner nook would be lovely. It's an amazing little well built cabin.
I just got finished with a cabin myself, and I know a little about craftsman ,and quality. You have a beautiful cabin and you can tell it's built with quality. I love it ,and you have a lot to be proud of. Thanks for the video!!
Thank you for the kind words!
You did a very nice job . You should be very proud and I hope you spend many hours enjoying it .
Thanks for that Terry
Thanks for sharing those ideas with everyone. Helical piers are a great thing. Certainly helps speed things up when putting in a foundation
You did an excellent job with your little cabin I'm sure it took a lot of thinking and a lot of doing and it shows your skill level which is very high I have seen this before but it always is worth a second look great video Sandy
Appreciate you checking it out Jeff. Am happy it's still lasted as I had hoped over the years.
My grandfather used to say that there is nothing cozier than the sound of rain on the roof. I feel the same way. Your asphalt roof not only looks great but will be much more satisfying to listen to the rain patter on- metal sucks!!!!
Thanks Cass!
You have evry right to be proud!!! GREAT JOB on your cabin!!!
Thanks Linda!
Nice piece of work. Be proud, you earned it. Thanks for the share.
Thanks for that!
Congrats Sandy on the Woods Cabin. looks Great. I would be Proud to live in-it all the time.. lv the views..
