This was so fun to watch! Every time you said what you would do over, I thought "and yet it works and is incredibly cool!" It's the fort / playhouse / secret cabin we all secretly wanted as kids, even if we lived in downtown Los Angeles. You even have the cool dog! Blessings upon you all. Thanks for sharing your totally-doable-by-real-people cabin!
You describe everything like its so luxurious 😂 yet its so basic & simple, cozy & functional. It works! I have ALWAYS loved the woods as a kid. We used to walk the neighborhood woods all the time. Such positive memories, simple days I miss. Oh yeah, a swing is everything!! Someone with a big piece of land should build a bunch of these, spaced out of course & rent them like cabin air bnb's minus the food. Lol!
Ever since I was a little kid,I have loved getting into tiny spaces.I would sit in moving boxes for hours, with only the thickness of the cardboard separating me from the wind and rain, and be all cozy inside. They didnt last long obviously, but it was great.Later on me and my dad built a 4x8 ft wood clubhouse.Great memories, and your channel helps to bring them back.
Great video! It really brings back memories of my childhood (early 60's) my dad built me an A-Frame playhouse in our suburban back yard. It was the same dimensions as your cabin because Dad wanted to be able to use it as a storage shed when I outgrew wanting a playhouse. It had a dutch door in one end and a storm window in the other end. I LOVED it and it was the envy of every little girl in the neighborhood! You did a great job of utilizing the odd nooks and crannies.
hello from Eugene Oregon! love what you do .both videos are great! I lived in a converted bread truck in the '70s for 5 years , so i know what it's like living in small space.
A couple suggestions. Add (stack) some bricks to the top of your stove. They will collect and store heat, which means less getting up at night. The top of you a frame is ripe for a storage loft in case you would like more capacity.
Beautiful cabin and land. Over time you will forget all your, learning experiences in the cabin. I would not rip the sheeting down and redo it. We built a shed with a loft on some camping lots in eastern Kansas. It is bigger and on pier and beam foundation but 25 years later and it is still my happy place. Our children have great memories of the cabin. They are grown now. Land is a finite resource and wild land is shrinking at an alarming rate. In joy and be good stewards of your small property. Thank you for allowing us a look at what you have built.
Build another 2 surrounding the fire pit, 1 as a washroom and the other as a bedroom, convert the existing one for a lounge space, It'll look like a tiny village. With board and batten the boards need to be vertical not horizontal so it's more weatherproof. I love it 🙂👍
@@TinyCabinLife With that set up. In the winter I would put up ropes between the units. Minnesota does get blizzards. Even when I lived in the TC metro.
Colin, I'm wondering what state do you live in. Here in Minnesota that set up of three houses is only practical in the warm months. Winter not so much. Since it can get to -20sF/-28.8889 if not lower. And there is the chance for windchills being below -35 F/-37.7778 C. Even though the average is closer to 0 F/-17.7778 C for temps. I would not have the third one the bedroom. Due to how long it could take to heat it up in the wintertime in order to make it comfortable to sleep in. I would suggest it be a sauna instead.
@@colinstace1758 I've lived in Minnesota my entire life. What is worse for weather than the eastern side of Minnesota is the western side as well as the Dakotas. Used to go to my parents' hometown in North Dakota for Christmas. I tend to joke about that a 5 mph wind is a blizzard wind. Good reason why. That area is flatter than a table top in most of that area. As for me, I prefer the eastern side of Minnesota. Not only is it got hills, it got trees to break the wind to a point.
That's a great little cabin for a great couple. When I was a kid I was always building little forts and things. The dump was where I found all of my materials and a corner of the yard was two sides of the fort which was built out of 4x2's and roofing tin.😁
What a great location for your cabin! A very nice first effort! Don’t sell yourself short; there’s not a lot of people who would even attempt it! A calming respite from the crazy world today! Thanks for sharing!

You two obviously like the same sort of things as I do, travelling with your lovely dog and building the A frame where you grew up. It's just what I would've loved to do had the tiny homes thing been around when I was younger (I have lived in my fair share of wood stove heated Highland cottages though.) Cool cabin! It's refreshing to see something practical and within the budget of most people. So many videos online are way overpriced tiny houses that cost more than my house. It's nice to see the things you'd do differently due to being your first build too. I'm sure all builds have those moments and they're always helpful to keep in mind for reference. The insulated pipes are great. What I love most is that one does not have to climb on top of roof to clean the pipe. I want to do what you have done with your stove in my house. :)
This is the second video of yours I have watched. The first one was of your super tiny cabin that you tow behind your vehicle. You are amazingly innovative and clever, but I just have to ask, is there a reason you make things so ultra tiny? I'm a small senior female, and I would definitely want to shower inside. I'm very much afraid I would need a refrigerator-freezer. Perhaps you could make a very small cabin that could incorporate those two things? I really like the A-frame. It keeps you from having to get leaves off of the roof.
Thanks for watching both videos! You know, I think at first I went ultra tiny out of budget and practicality sake…meaning, I didn’t know if I could build anything bigger lol! I totally hear you. I think my next build will be a bit larger and have more features like that. Thanks for the comments and feedback!!

Second comment from me. You and your beautiful wife chose well. You are perfect for each other and it warms my heart to see two such well-suited and loving people.
I'm envious of your surroundings. My dad was in the Air Force in the early 60's and stationed in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to Kansas after leaving the force. I wish my parents would have stayed in Minnesota because there is no doubt I would have a cabin like this to "escape" to. Keep living this dream, my man. Peace from Kansas.
If you pile rocks and Bricks all around at stove as the bricks heat up and the stove goes out. It will release the heat back into the room and make it more stable for you. Look up Russian fireplace. Also for better fire protection instead of your carbon felt place a piece of sheet metal leaving an air gap between the wood and the sheet metal. This is usually 1 in or more but extremely effective.
You're a great guy with a beautiful dog and a beautiful wife i love watching your videos they're relaxing and they help you forget all off the stuff going on in the world.
Deek Diedricksen will never know the importance of this design . I too have bought these plans , with the idea of a few changes and build my own tiny house . But just to know that when I do , I will never be homeless again .
Ladies and gentlemen, I just came across this channel and this man is the poster man for a "REAL MAN" He is so talented and can we give it up for this couple 👏👏👏him and his wife are perfect for each other! You did an awesome job on the cabin build. Attention to detail is spot on, I really like it. Love seeing the fall colors starting to show in the woods too. Keep up the great videos! Congrats on getting out of SoCal also
Great video! I live in an A frame on four acres in Michigan, and this little A frame would make a nice little artist’s retreat on the back of my property. You guys seem like a great couple-Riley is a gem!😊😊
This is my dream home. I lived Off the Grid in a portable cabin from 2009 until 2019. My circumstances changed and this year I am in an apartment. However, my nephew told me that I can use his 20 acre property to put a little building on. I would skip the wood heater as I tried that not doing that again but this is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I am a new subscriber thank you for showing me this. Grandma Gia in the Ozarks
@@TinyCabinLife the happiest 10 years of my life. Breathing clean air and rescuing dogs, LOL, true story. Now I'm scrambling my brain and sharing your A-frame to see if anybody can help me build it!
Nice little cabin! I have a 120 square foot Amish cabin/shed and making it into a tiny home. I just added a tiny Nuway woodstove. I used pellet stove piping. I love my butane stove for cooking.
@@Jj-gi2uv I purchased the stove first and needed 3 inch stove pipe. I wanted double walled pipe, so I then purchased some pellet stove piping. I did have 2 single walled piping that I used for inside the cabin. I wish we could share photos on this sight, because (like they say) a picture is worth a thousand words.
@@Jj-gi2uv I sent a reply. Didn't you receive it? I picked up the last stove they had at a store in Fairview, Michigan. Then I looked around for 3 inch double wall stove pipe at Menatds and Home Depot. Bougjt what I needed and put it together myself.
Love the cabin . I would not change a thing on the A frame . I would just build another one just make it bigger . I would build it either to hold a double bed or queen size bed . I think a compost toilet outhouse that would serve potentially both cabins .
100% I think down the line, I might try and build something with just a little more room. Tiny is great, but there is a point where even just a few more feet really makes a difference

A friend of mine watched this with me. He has one of those stoves for his tent. He said a lot of people will chop up wood into sticks and put them in there and light it and then they are up all night constantly refilling them. He measured the length a log would be able to fit in and reduced it by 2 inches. He will cut a log in half. A big log, three pieces. He only uses sticks to start the fire. Once you have a fire going, it doesn't need to blaze. He puts three half logs on coals and he said he gets up about 2 times in the night to throw the wood in again and back to bed. Another suggestion. Grab a small bucket or can. Say you have a log about 8 inches wide. You split it in two or three pieces. Let's say you split it in three. Now take each of those three pieces and split it into about 4 pies. Take those 12 pieces and put them in a bucket. You should do more t han one log, let's say 3 logs. So now you have 36 pieces of wood. Save your old vegetable oil. (not grease). Pour that veggie oil around those sticks in the bucket. It will settle to the bottom and then every stick will get coated as it soaks in. Take 3 of those sticks and put it in your little stove. Add two or three logs on top. Now light those three sticks and you'll have a fire going in no time. Plus, no paper or trash is needed to go up that chimney. The one thing he always packs is some of that instant hot cocoa. Should a snow storm arise and your vehicle won't start or got stuck, God forbid if you were out of cell range, you could always drink some hot cocoa to keep you warm AND give you a sugar boost, if you ran out of food. You could at least survive well enough until someone came to look for you being missing.
It would also help a LOT if he surrounds the stove with fire brick or stone- like a mass oven/mass stove. They'll retain the heat even when the fire's died down- or gone out.
Awesome! It does work, but I would actually recommend using a cubic mini stove. I think those burn much more efficiently. However, if it’s just a place to hang out in, then a camp stove works fine. It just needs a lot more stoking to keep a fire going throughout the night.
People sure are concerned about the lack of a bathroom. I grew up with out a bathroom. When I do tent camping, I have a Lug-a-Loo 5 gal. bucket from Fleet Farm. It uses special bags. For water I use a laundry detergent container that has the spigot on it. Very nice cozy cabin. Best wishes from another Minnesotan.
Could you incorporate a drop leaf extension onto the bed on your side and then just lift it up when it's bedtime and put extra cushioning onto it for a bit more space? Then you could also use it as a table if you wish to do so.
I had so much fun watching this. It made me wish I had some forest to play in. I love to camp, but I can only camp when I have a few days off and can drive to the mountains 😭
The long handled wood splitting tool you have outside the cabin is a maul rather than an ax. Axes are designed for cutting, mauls are much larger, heavier with a longer handle which are designed for splitting. Just letting you know in case you need to buy one at some point.
When you're not experienced at building you get a much more pleasing effect and charm. Great job!

Second comment from me. You and your beautiful wife chose well. You are perfect for each other and it warms my heart to see two such well-suited and loving people.
Wow thank you so much. Of all the comments, this one means the most
I'm envious of your surroundings.
Minnesota is definitely an underrated place 🙏🏽
If you pile rocks and Bricks all around at stove as the bricks heat up and the stove goes out. It will release the heat back into the room and make it more stable for you. Look up Russian fireplace. Also for better fire protection instead of your carbon felt place a piece of sheet metal leaving an air gap between the wood and the sheet metal. This is usually 1 in or more but extremely effective.
So many great tips! Thank you so much!
You're a great guy with a beautiful dog and a beautiful wife i love watching your videos they're relaxing and they help you forget all off the stuff going on in the world.
So glad that they help you relax and escape into nature 😊🙏🏽
So beautiful. It's giving me "life goal" vibes. I've been wanting to build one of these for a long time. ..one day 🤞🏼❤
You can do it! I thought it would be such a hard and long process and in the end, it only took me 7 days to get the structure built!
Deek Diedricksen will never know the importance of this design . I too have bought these plans , with the idea of a few changes and build my own tiny house . But just to know that when I do , I will never be homeless again .
Absolutely 🙏🏽 I really wish you the best with the plans
Absolutely love it 🥰
Thank you for shearing this video 🙏
Sending you blessings and happy travels,
From Iceland 🇮🇸 🦋🦋🦋
Wow so cool! Thanks for watching!
The cabin is great. Give yourself credit. The outdoors helps one feel alive!
Amen to that!
That's a really good idea using the treated and the bond timber to cover joints. Looks like a really good job especially for a 1st project
Thank you so much!!
Ladies and gentlemen, I just came across this channel and this man is the poster man for a "REAL MAN" He is so talented and can we give it up for this couple 👏👏👏him and his wife are perfect for each other! I am hooked on this channel! I LOVE THEM!!
I Can watch him build a cabin all day! And I have!😉 So glad TH-cam put this channel in my suggestion for me. THEY KNOW ME SO WELL🤔 Kinda scary! Anyway,
I'M A FAN! LOVE YOU TWO!
Wow thank you so very much!!!! 😊🙏🏽
You did an awesome job on the cabin build. Attention to detail is spot on, I really like it. Love seeing the fall colors starting to show in the woods too. Keep up the great videos! Congrats on getting out of SoCal also
Thanks a lot! This one was a lot of fun to design! It seems to fit in so well with the fall leaves too
@@TinyCabinLife how poetic, so much depth with this remark.
Great video! I live in an A frame on four acres in Michigan, and this little A frame would make a nice little artist’s retreat on the back of my property. You guys seem like a great couple-Riley is a gem!😊😊
Amazing! It would definitely be a nice little hideout for you 👍🏽 Thanks so much for watching! Rylie is the best 😊
Love the tiny cabin! The swing is awesome!
Thanks!!! The swing is the best!! :)
Yes, I love to swing!
So adorable and cozy, great way to get away for a bit .
Yes!! Absolutely
What a useful tiny cabin. I think your craftsmanship is fine especially for a project like this.
Thank you so much!!
Wow, I'm seriously impressed 👏 What a beautiful lil place you have there and the land is amazing!
Thank you!! We’re very blessed 🙏🏽
Your campings are so nice and your dog ellie
Very cozy. I love it. Great job.👍😊
Thank you so much!!
Wow you did so for 10 years! Love it. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!
@@TinyCabinLife the happiest 10 years of my life. Breathing clean air and rescuing dogs, LOL, true story. Now I'm scrambling my brain and sharing your A-frame to see if anybody can help me build it!
@@OzarkGiGi 😊👍🏽👍🏽
Great cabin! I could see a second cabin for a bath house. Then longer stays or even FT living
Yes absolutely!!! And you could even add on to the back and create another living space that’s not part of the A Frame. Maybe someday!
Awesome! I like Deek's designs! He's a very talented guy! That's a nice little cabin to get away to!
Definitely!! They’re so great
👍 Very cool ! Maybe turn the little A frame into your outhouse 🌙 and build a little bit bigger cabin and show the building part of it.😊
Haha yes that could be an option in the future!
Just a beautiful place to hang out and chill.
Thanks! We love it
Nice little cabin! I have a 120 square foot Amish cabin/shed and making it into a tiny home. I just added a tiny Nuway woodstove. I used pellet stove piping. I love my butane stove for cooking.
Very nice!!! I’ll look up the stove you mentioned!
Finally! A tiny home video that actually tiny!
Indeed! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. You did a wonderful job 🐶❤
Thank you so much!!
You guys have made the most of the small space brilliantly
Love the cabin . I would not change a thing on the A frame . I would just build another one just make it bigger . I would build it either to hold a double bed or queen size bed . I think a compost toilet outhouse that would serve potentially both cabins .
100% I think down the line, I might try and build something with just a little more room. Tiny is great, but there is a point where even just a few more feet really makes a difference
@@TinyCabinLife
First build man you're a genius that is so cool you can guess what I'm wanting to do now keep it up tell her enjoy life believing God thank Jesus for what he did for us and enjoy his creation good job man
Amen 🙏🏽😊
Sitting here in Holland Landing, a small little town north of Toronto, I must say this totally looks like the woods around my house. Also loved your Blair Witch Project windchimes bro :) What a treat this cabin must be. I hope you enjoy the crap out of it.
Thank you so much!!! We love and cherish it for sure 🙏🏽
Looks GREAT!! Give yourself more credit.. You have done what some people only dream of doing!! ENJOY it!!
Thank you for that!! I appreciate it!
Glad to see you making videos again! I still enjoy checking out the Rock the Park videos! Very inspiring 😎🤘 The A frame looks so peaceful in the woods awesome job 👏😄
Thank you!!! And thanks for watching RTP too!!
@@TinyCabinLife do y’all still film new episodes? I mainly watch on TH-cam now but my Dad and I used to always watch your shows on the tv Saturday afternoons 😎
@@TravelswithNick Not anymore sadly.
The pandemic kind of out an end to the show and now both Colton and I have our families. Maybe one day again!
Your craftsmanship got the job done,,, well done,, you seem to really enjoy it and that’s what’s important
Absolutely 🙏🏽 thanks so much!
I absolutely love your little cabin!! It’s so cute and the scenery is wonderful. I even like your Blair Witch style wind chime. I watched your video showing your travel cabin and I dig that one too. I’m jealous. Anyway, thanks for sharing them. Have fun and be safe!
❤️💜💚
Haha thank you!! Rylie says it’s like out of the Blair Witch too 😂 Thank you for the kind words!!
Great tips 👍🏽👍🏽
It would also help a LOT if he surrounds the stove with fire brick or stone- like a mass oven/mass stove. They'll retain the heat even when the fire's died down- or gone out.
@@eba44 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I'm planning on using those plans myself and was wondering if I could use a camp stove. Glad to see it works!
Haha totally! Thanks for being real here with all of us 😅 The Lug A Loo is actually what we use too!
love your cabin!👍😊
Thank you!!
What a super cabin! Great work! Ellie is so sweet. Bless u guys.
Thank you!!!
This is so great! It would make a great little art studio!
Absolutely!!! It’s definitely inspiring down there too!
This is so nice and cozy. You made it into a beautiful home.
Thank you!!!
Could you incorporate a drop leaf extension onto the bed on your side and then just lift it up when it's bedtime and put extra cushioning onto it for a bit more space? Then you could also use it as a table if you wish to do so.
That’s a really great idea!!
👍🤩😍💝Very cool. I love the simplicity. Thanks for sharing. 💝
Of course! Thanks for watching!
I had so much fun watching this. It made me wish I had some forest to play in. I love to camp, but I can only camp when I have a few days off and can drive to the mountains 😭
I’m so glad that you enjoyed it!! That’s still nice that you have mountains nearby :)
LOVE LOVE the cabin, so cute and cosy.
Thank you!!
Very inspiring! I feel I could actually do something (with a wee bit of help) like this! My living situation is changing. Time to reassess.
Yes! Love that! You definitely can do it
I love your cabin ,its just the right size !
I agree! Thanks!!
The long handled wood splitting tool you have outside the cabin is a maul rather than an ax. Axes are designed for cutting, mauls are much larger, heavier with a longer handle which are designed for splitting. Just letting you know in case you need to buy one at some point.
Thanks for the clarification! 👍🏽
