    Love the channel but that’s not what I expected. 1/ You said “we’re going to have a look and see exactly what’s on this car” and then didn’t actually show it. I know it’s hard to film but come on! 2/ “Massive coolant leaks” isn’t what usually happens. The pipe usually cracks at the flange into the top of the engine and starts to weep, causing the engine bay to smell of hot coolant and a low coolant light on the dash. Many Jaguar specialists (including Tom Lenthall) advise to not worry and just drive the car until you get the symptoms! Many older cars (including Harry Metcalf’s Project 7) are still on there original y pipe. I agree with you that preventative maintenance is important, however the jury seems out on whether to panic about older cars with the two part pipe. I hope that’s not too negative about your video but I just wanted to give it some balance.

      I assume this is not a matter of thousands of Euros. So if this is like 200 or 300 Euros and I had one, knowing I have the old version, I would immediately swap it. If you are happy, the part is even less and you can swap on your own. To me, this is not panic, this is reasonable maintenance - just as said in the video.

      It to be a negative Nancy as well, but I expected the same. Seems like you could have used your camera to point to the y pipe, but I have not checked my car to see how challenging that would be. But you did say it was easy. 😊 BTW. Love your channel too!

      @@craftingmat5425 Hi Mat, no it’s not a €200/€300 repair. The supercharger has to be removed to give access to the Y pipe.

      Very well said. To be fair, this isn't someone who has any mechanical expertise. I don't think he was deliberately misleading, he just doesn't know enough. It's pretty evident that this is just a way for him to deliver content.

    I really don't think it's a simple fix at all, and will not be cheap at the dealers. The supercharger has to come off and in every video I've seen the dowels are rusted making it a right pain to get off

      I did it myself as a car guy who only worked on old Audi & VW project cars... Wasn't that big of a deal actually. But it is as you mentioned: The Supercharger is really stuck on the engine. You gotta be tilting it very carefully from both sides until it comes off. If you manage this, everything else is pretty "easy" to do.

      @@spartanp2064 The dealer price in US in USD. However, I had similar and lots of leaks on my 2019 XE. I was able to complete the work for less. The only contact with Jag dealer is for buying some minor element that could be missing.
      I would recommend to buy a whole set of replacements of the cooling system from AMP (call them, tell them you want to replace the whole system, metal, not plastic). Then find a mechanic that would do that: some charge around 2k. But you can find as low as 1k for the same work - need to talk to the repair shop, see their level of work, evaluate, etc.

    Love the channel….. but the new revised / redesigned ones are failing on the connection ends. The plastic ends are being reported to get brittle and crumble, fail and leak…. The only real fix is the aluminum ones. I changed my V8S to the aluminum ones, peace in mind.

    It’s not an easy fix , the supercharger has to be removed to get to the Y piece, an expensive job , had it replaced on my previous 3 litre F type

    Your car doesn't seem to have the revised design, at least not for the upper outlet pipe. There a two y-pipes - the upper outlet pipe and the crossover pipe under the supercharger. At 2:19, you can clearly see the two-piece design still on the upper outlet pipe, so there's a good chance the crossover pipe also still uses the old design. I suggest you replace both (see part numbers below):
    - Upper outlet pipe (AJ813917)
    - Crossover pipe (AJ813865)
    It's also recommended to replace the water pump and the heater pipe as part of the job. I replaced all on my V6S which is now stage 3, and have been driving it hard ever since with no issues. Good luck!

    I've had this issue with my MY2018 F-Type R. After checking and realizing it wasn't the water pump, which wasn't a big deal, I looked online and found that the Y-pipe was probably the problem. I called a few workshops, but the earliest appointment I could get was in 4-5 weeks, which was far too long for me to wait. There’s a step-by-step guide on Google where someone does the same job on the V6. The process is almost exactly the same on the V8.
    As someone who has only worked on older VWs and Audis as a hobby, I just decided to disassemble everything myself, hoping I could repair it without paying thousands of euros at the workshop (the part itself isn't that expensive, but the labor hours are...).
    I managed to repair it, and now my Jag is running like a beast again! 🤟 It's just a pain to get the supercharger off because it's really stuck to the engine, and you have to be very careful with the cast aluminum housing.

    The trouble is the most common failure points on the pipe isn't actually the seam. It's at the point where it locates into the cylinder block. That's why we install our aluminium upgraded pipe set. It looks like you have the pipes that are prone to failure Mr GB!... You should come along and I'll show you how to install a set of aluminium pipes.

      Labour, we charge £450 to remove and install the supercharger in order to allow access to change the pipes.
      Whilst the supercharger is removed, it can be a good idea to check and carry out any supercharger maintenance.

      Most jaguar specialty folks won't install the aluminum one cuz it's not what Jaguar recommends.

    Had mine done while they had the supercharger off doing something else, and yeah it's pretty straightforward but it is labour intensive, and that's why it's expensive. You're probably better off finding a decent Jaguar mechanic rather than a dealer if you want to keep labour costs down a little bit, or get it done while they're doing something else essential that means the supercharger needs to come off, because that's where the cost is.

    That's good timing, my dealer said I didn't have leaks but my 2019 r had the old kit. I bit the bullet and replaced the whole system for 3400.00 US. I question why my 2019 had the old stuff. And why jaguar doesn't cover this under warranty when they know the parts suck.

      Had similar issues, replaced with aluminum with an independent shop, total cost - about half of the dealer!!!!

    mine is a 2018 model and I had a coolant leak recently but it wasn't the Y pipe. The coolant tank itself had actually burst. It cost me £130 to fix it all-in. In terms of the symptoms, there was steam coming out of the bonnet towards the windscreen which smelt weird and the coolant level dropped by about 500ml per day.

      This happened to me at top of a mountain in the Pyrenees... thankfully AA Europe wide cover flat bed transported it all the way back to the UK for the fix!!

    Per my invoice preventative coolant job: replace outdated cooling components. Mine is a 2019 f type r. Pipe heater, water pump, tube, seal, tube, pipe- outlet, plug-blanking, thermostat, tube,tube, hose, gasket- intake, gasket, gasket, antifreeze@ 10 total cost 3277 before tax. Hope this helps. Jaguar makes a beautiful car, but they suck on customer service.

    Ehm bro you have the old upper y-pipe so you also have the old lower y pipe aswell. I have the same F Type R like you, modellyear early 2018 with no OPF and Small navigation...

    I looked and I did have the seam pipes , but i thought they upgraded them around 2017. So why did my 2019 have the crap pipes. Jaguar is dying anyway. Going electric. But i paid for the fix for peace of mind because i love this car.
