The only 1 I have in the bag is a 60° and its staying..... only used inside 50 yards and typically when short sided, have space in the bag for it and it's the sensible choice, 6 iron I've hot a more forgiving head on then go hybrids/fairway, LAB DF3 putter 5 wood and mini driver 😎🏌♂️😎
I'm pretty much set. I dropped 3w for another driver awhile ago, I've pretty much dropped the 60° since then too. I currently go d1,d2, 17°hy-wood, 5w lofted up to 20°, 20° hybrid, 5 hybrid, 6-AW, 56°. I would love to set up something to get that top end of the bag a little more figured out, but I'd most likely end up with 13 clubs then, or I'd bring back my 60°.
I will be changing my Seemore putter for a zero torque model. That it, my 3 wood is 5 wood length and 16 degrees. Plus 7 iron is already my longest iron!
My driver is a 3W. It is an older head, senior shaft, 42". (I do not miss the driver). I play and hit low profile woods very well. They are also shorter progressing down from the 3W. (5W, 7W, 9W, 11W). Irons are 7-PW, re-shafted Ping Zing 2 with senior shafts, 2 degrees flat, -1.5 of standard shaft length. I have three wedges, 52 wide sole Tour Edge, and a 56 Malby Sand Slider and 60 degree Maltby Lob wedge. The fat soles are easy to get great results from. Yes, I have a mallet putter. I am not tall. Once I figured out I hit the ball better with shorter clubs, I changed, decades ago. I get a lot of guff from people because I do not grip it and rip it 250yds all over the place. I plink it down the fairway. Eliminate the out of bounds, sand traps, and water, the score improves. Also, I play the old man tees. I have NOTHING to prove. Golf is a game to me. I try to have fun.
I, too, am perfectly happy with the 3W off the tee. Less dispersion, more confidence than with Mr. D. I swapped out all my fairway woods and irons with a hybrid set from ELEVEN golf. Best decision I've ever made in golf. Alex reviewed them most favorably, and I took his advice. Lots more confidence and more fun!
I’m 64 and play with a 72, 82,83 yr old. The oldest in the party o am trying to get to play off the forward tees. His club head speed / swing length is way down as age is catching up with him. He still hits it ok but off the yellows is struggling to reach the fairway at times. My bag D, 3W 7W 4-PW, 50/54/58 W. And a blade putter guess Alex would be in tears. 😁 Have recently gone 7W over 3H, prefer 4i to the 3H. Have always played a Blade putter but it has a nice big grip on it. That’s not the weakest part of my game for sure
I’m 67, and disabled, I’ve just changed my whole bag, I’ve the new Ping i530’s fitted with the Alta quick 35gm graphite shafts, they are 7iron to PW, My woods are the HL version of the 10k max, probably a 5 or even a 7 wood next, also the HL, followed by a 5 hybrid also HL. My putter will be the LAB mallet. Cannot wait to get out on the course, as I’ve just had a fall, but should be ok in 2-3 weeks hopefully.
Its way easier to keep a blade putter on line compared to a mallet putter because of the straight lines front and back. As far as putter grips the pistol grip is the best and nobody will convince be otherwise. I have used multiple super stroke grips always return to my winn pistol grip
@@jameswhite4102 yeah if you at the softball home run derby guys that all swing 10-11 inch barrel bats when the regular players swing 13 1/2 inch barrels. I would buy a driver loft 3 wood right now of I could find one.
Blade putters are toe hang balanced which REQUIRES rotation through the stroke. Face balanced mallet putters don’t and perform much better even with a baby arc.
Alex only after comparing 3 vs 5 wood on a trackman did I finally take take your advice and remove the 3 wood out of my bag😂. My putter I switched from a Scotty newport 2 to a cobra supernova mallet what a game changer. Shortened my driver to a 45inch and hitting the center much more often. The only Club I'll fight you on is my 60° wedge I just can't seem to get it out of my bag😅 about once every two rounds I need to use it. Really good advice for golfers thank you sir
Yep. agree 100% I stopped carrying a 3 wood years ago. My 5 wood is a weapon. Fairway finder. Enough distance. Hmm? My putter arc is much better with a blade. I do have a SS grip on it. Hybrids are good. I actually carry 5-6 iron and 5 hybrid. Shorter driver shaft is a must. Mine is 44.5, I hit center face more and have gained distance. Can control the club more too. Same feeling as 5 wood. Carry gap wedge and 56 now only. It works.
I 100% agree and have done exactly this minus the removal of my wedges. And when I went to my new club set I immediately dropped strokes and have even dipped into the high 70’s twice and am now a 9.7hc. My clubs Driver 5W 7w 4h 6h 9h 7i 8i Pw Aw 52 56 60 Putter
I have trimmed what is in my golf bag quite drastically, but I kept a 5 iron in there, as it is needed if I need to keep a ball on a shallow flight, eg shooting under a tree branches.
I definitely agree with all these club changes. I swapped out my 60 degree blade style wedge for a 58 degree wide sole wedge and love it. Also love the 5W and 7W over the 3 wood and driver. Mini-driver is a bit out of my price point for now but I hit the 5W more consistently and nearly the same distance so I mostly focus on hitting better with that club . I also ordered up an inexpensive used 9W just to try, can't wait till it arrives.
Love my adjustable 3-4 and/or my 5-6 fairway woods. Got the 5 set closer to a 6 and 3 about a 3.5 (~13.5-14.5 degrees). Use the 5 for higher launch to greens, the 3 for lower launch (under trees, winds, open fairways if bit longer helps ~+10 yds).
I’m a very high handicap senior who now and again plays to my handicap of 35. I have driver, 5,7,9 woods, 7&8 irons, 4 wedges, chipper and putter. My bunker play is rubbish and lob wedge gives me best chance of escaping. 6 iron generally used if I need play a low one from trees.
@@examenvragen 9w is definitely the next club if I’m switching. Give it a few months. Bringing the 7w for its first round on Sunday. I think it will be used on every hole 🤣
I had a Titleist TSR1 driver custom fit by Titleist in Jan 2024 and love it. 12 degrees loft and shaft length cut by 0.75", regular shaft. I am 68 and high launch and carry a priority. I think folk don't go for enough loft.
I have just an average swing speed. Over the last 2 years I have completely changed my bag. Replaced my 6, 5, 4 irons with 6, 5, 4 hybrids. Changed my wedges and irons to cavity back game improvement versions. Sold my 3 wood and got a 5 wood (on the advice of this channel). I have already been playing a mallet putter for years. Will never change that. I just got the Callaway mini driver. The game is so much easier. Put away the ego and choose clubs that help you not hurt you.
It was for me. I inadvisely bought a 3,5, and 7 woods. They were too long. Chocking down on them didn't seem to help. Had them resized and put on a medium grip and I was consistently hitting them high and for me far. It may have just been the grip but I don't think so.
I played a few times a "3 clubs and putter" competition and always made good scores using hybrid, 6i and PW. My club's pro used to play practice rounds using driver, 6i and a wedge; it was fun to watch. Playing with a shortened set is good for practice and often produces good scores.
I agree I should have just bought the 5 wood I use it more than the three but, too much money invested in the 3 to get rid of it. I already took out my 5&6 iron , and replaced them with hybrids. When I got fitted for my driver I hit the 12.5 farther than the 10.5 . I have a very slow swing at 65. I use my SW more than my P, I do have a 60° for sand because I am comfortable with it.
I agree with almost everything said here. In fact last night I traded in my 3 wood for a ping g430 max 5 wood.. I recently shortened my driver an inch and the results are magnificent. I replaced my 5 iron with a 7 wood but I'm keeping my 6 iron. I haven't yet thought of getting a bigger grip on my mallet putter but I will definitely consider it. And I absolutely will not get rid of my wedges. In fact they are Callaway CB wedges 52,56 and 60. I have uses for all of them and they will stay.
Solid advice. 3w is definitely a club i struggle with off the turf. I primarily only use it off the tee when driver is too much club or I need to play more of a draw since the 3w is easier for me to turn over. I don't own or have access to any launch monitor devices, but I would say my 5w and 3w carry distances are about the same. 3w just tends to roll out a little more.
I converted my 3W to my version of a mini driver by changing the loft collar to 13.5 degrees and setting it up as a driver for those rare days when my driver isn’t working for me. But my driver is still 20+ yards longer when it is and that is hard to ignore. I did lose the 5W and put a 7W in the bag as it gaps nicely to my 4H. I also recently changed back from a 6H to a 6i and am loving that change. Much better dispersion and predictability (and stopping power) with no interruption to the rest of the clubs’ gapping in my bag.
In mid summer this year I cut my driver down to 43 inches. Immediately hit more fairways, launched higher, no loss of distance. Then, dropped my 4, 5, and 6 irons. Went with 3,4,5,6 hybrids……and cut the shafts 1 inch each! My highest lofted wedge is my sand wedge at 54 degrees. Shooting the lowest rounds of my life! I’ll be 70 in March.
Started playing again after 15 year break. 7/8 handicapper. Old set was traditional 1,3,5 wood 3i-SW plus an old Hippo 60* wedge. Revamped set, got rid of 3W, 5W and 3i. Replaced with 4W and 4 hybrid, 4i-PW. Got 50, 56 and 60 Mizuno wedges on order but may see how I get on without the 60 at first. If 56 is enough I’ll return the 60 even though I have a decent short game
I agree with all of this except the mini driver purchase recommendation. Just choke up on your present driver an inch or two. If your grip is too thin at the new position then get a thicker grip. So much cheaper than buying a new club.
Just swapped out my thin grip blade putter with a moderately thick grip mallet putter. Now I can approach an 8 footer and actually think I have a chance at it. Another advantage it has is that it’s shorter at 33”. When I grip it and look down, my eye is over the ball. Makes a world of difference
Replaced 3 wood with 5 wood a while ago and its been much better. Using 54 and 58 instead of 56 and 60, its been better too. Always prefered a mallet putter to a blade putter. Ive been wanting to switch to a smaller driver shaft for a long time, but have yet to do so, but I've been gradually impolroving with my driver regardless. Where this video really got me though, was the 5i and 6i. I've been considering removing them from the bag and just have not been able to make myself okay with it, but maybe its time.
Agree on everything but the 60 degree. But that's because I got myself a delicate 58 degree with extremely low bounce, and while super effective from bunkers for my shallow swing, I noticed it being a bit dodgy/diggy in horrid deep rough lies. Therefore I also carry a CBX2 full face 'frying pan'. It positively cuts through any flora the course throws at you except trees. Agreed: For emergencies only. If there's a spare place in the bag, why not.
1- I grip down 1.5" plus on my nominal 45.25" driver. Probably an inch on the 3w. 2- I prefer HyWood to 5w most of the time. 3- Because of the new 9w, both 5i and 4h could well go out. 4- 6i and 5h have a decent competition. 6i slightly leading at the moment. 5- I seem to be able to do everything short with no more than 52 degrees. 6- It's nice to have another alternative if you get into a slump with a club.
More good content Alex. Fred Couples has nothing higher than a 7 iron and carries 6 woods. He is 65. Also well done for giving the CMDCB Wedges a shout. I play them with the KBS Hi-Rev G 80 shaft. So easy to hit. Last but not least, for some golfers (like me) the Callaway Sure Out 2 is a club worth carrying.
Agree with using CB style wedges, game the Callaway CB (original model) and its changed my short game. Was using a 50 and 56 (to simplify my wedge choices) but struggled a lot with my bunker game and reintroduced the 60 purely for bunker shots and very very tight lobs over bunkers/hazards. 60 is useful for me but only if I restrict it to exact scenarios.
I took my 3w out of the bag almost a year ago. Didn't like it, never hit it. Replaced my 5i with a 5 hybrid a few weeks ago. Flies higher and goes farther. So I have a 3, 4, and 5 hybrids. I just got a 42" 4w(16.5°) hoping it fills the gap between 3hy(215 carry) and driver(250 carry). I'm taking it to the range today looking for 235ish off the tee 230ish off the deck. Trying what I can to make golf easier and fulfill my dream of being a single digit HC.
The second you said ‘not enough club head speed’ it made me doubt the relevance, I’m a 18 hcp - my driver swing speed is about the 118mph mark and 7 iron around the 95 region. I have an 8* driver and 14* 3 wood - zero issues hitting the driver around the 300 mark and my 3 wood 275. I also after that have 2 iron to PW with 54* and 58* wedges with no intention of ditching any of them. I also have always felt what people go by for selecting the right clubs is a higher handicap shouldn’t necessarily be having to play game improvement irons - it wasn’t until I ditched them and went for irons closer to the ones played on tour (I had the original T100Ss I liked initially but have recently gone for the Callaway Apex CB which truthfully are only 5-PW (well 10 iron) and have the Apex Utility Irons 18, 20 & 23* (the same loft as the 2, 3 and 4) all with the same 6.5 rifle shafts and I’ve been seeing my game improve, I like the feedback for when you hit it wrong and makes you concentrate more plus the major issues I had with game improvement irons were being a long hitter the dispersion was amplified with clubs as such
This is spot on for my game. The 3 wood needs to go and add a 7 wood. Mallet putter would be much easier. The new shorter shaft driver. Add hybrids to replace the 5 iron. My 5 iron is new-it should be easy to hit-I am just not getting on with it.
I call BS. My 3 Wood is great. I’ve never had trouble hitting woods, even as a new player. Mallet heads are too clumsy in my hands, always had a blade, always putted well. You need a long iron to hit low under trees, I put a 3 iron in my bag, so glad I did. Chips out great. Agree, Hybrids replace other long irons. Agree with no 60 degree and Love my game improvement wedges. BTW, I was fitted into my Driver, 3W, 3H, 5H and 9-6 iron, w PW GW and SW. I’d never used hybrids or GW before. Loved the setup except I had no club for hitting low under trees, so added my old beginner 3 iron and now it’s the perfect set. ( mid HCP)
Very interesting, I took out the 5 Iron 5 years ago, still love my 6 Iron because I'm very confident with it, exchanged the 3 Wood with a 5 Wood 4 years ago, chnaged from 60, 56, 52 Cleveland CG15 Wedges to 58 and 52 HiToe this year, also this year, changed from maliciously fitted (by a pro) 1" longer AP3 to standard length Darkspeed, which makes it much easier to hit the Irons well. Is it a coincidence, or just the natural way? ;-)
I just listened to all of this bad advice. Here's what you really need to know: Yes, driver can be shorter shaft, but if you get one that is short, have a professional add mass to the club head to get the swing weight back to normal. Otherwise you'll lose all feel. 3-wood is probably bad UNLESS it's always a teeing club. If you use it off the tee, no problem! It can solve the driver issue on its own. 5-irons… usually good advice. If they go the same number, take them out. Mallet putters are good, but the most important part is the grip, and making sure your hands aren't rotating at impact. Big grips help. Mallets are better; PGA is switching fast. 60º Lob… it's not that big of a deal, but a 56-58 is indeed plenty. More important is to get wedges that match your region. Get fat ones if you're in Florida, but his advice is terrible if you're in Arizona. Consult your local pro shop before buying these mediocre recommendations.
I have the 2017 M1 drivers in all lofts, as well as the 3 wood in both lofts and the 5 wood. All on Mitsubishi Kuro Kage shafts. All cut to Tiger Woods length. I'm 5'10". My irons are 2023 TM Stealth HD on Mitsubishi Kuro Kage shafts. I also have all of the TM Hi Toe wedges from 50 -60 degrees. My putters are a TM Rosa Monza Spider and a TM TP Patina Dupage. Im horrible. Can't swing those babies to save my life!
Totally agree with all this. I have a Callaway mini driver, 5 and 7 woods hybrids 5 & 6 and mallet putter. My wedge, other than pitching and gap wedges is a 56. One question. I hate that wedges all come with wedge flex shafts. Wouldn't someone with a slower swing speed be better with an ordinary regular flex shaft? Does anyone make wedges with these shafts as standard?
It's not odd. They tested years ago. From 0 to 5 ft, blade is better by a bit, from 5 to 10 ft mallet is better by a smidgen. From 10 to who knows, blade is better hands down.
How wonderfully comforting. I’ve done 3 of the 5 and am currently talking to a club fitter about my driver and wedges. I would also recommend getting fitted for the right ball. I’m not a big hitter, and play off an index of 13.1, but I was amazed at how much distance is lost between the worst and best fitting ball.
I threw out a 60 wedge a couple of years ago, and my handicap has in part come down due to that. I take real issue with the putter though, I have tried a mallet head, for me, it has less feel, especially on down hill shots resulting in higher scores. I like a bladed putter because if gives you some flexibility on fast greens and downhill putts, the off centre putt simply doesn’t have the same zip nearly always stopping close to the hole.
Agree about the putter. I think the reason pros are switching to them is because they hit it so close to the pin with their irons distance control is a secondary requirement with the putter. I could be completely wrong of course 😂
With the help and under instruction from my pga coach and not some You tuber my set is as follows. 2x drivers(1 x 9 deg adjustable, soft shaft for wide long courses + 1 x11.0 deg firm shaft for tight tree lined courses and winter) 3w(plays on long courses) 5w,19 deg hybrid,(vary depending on course played) 4iron to 9 pw 53 56 2x60 deg wedges (1x 8 deg bounce 1x 12 deg bounce)(use depends on sand and conditions). 2 putters Blade for fast greens and summer Mallet for winter and slow greens). Ball: summer and links type courses, 3 piece urithane cover. Winter and or lush courses with soft greens. 2 piece surlyn cover. .hcap 8 age 67. Really need to vary clubs for vonditions
Agree with most, but putter is just not true. I tried for years to use these “easier” to hit on line, never good for pace control. Switched to blade 5-6 seasons ago never looked back.
Just get fit. Not just driver, get fit for every club you buy. There’s no blanket rule for every golfer. Oh and take ego out of it. I did a blind iron fitting a few years ago and got put into Srixon ZX5s even though I really wanted the Mizuno pro 221. I immediately dropped from a 22 handicap down to a 17 that season. I’m positive that wouldn’t have happened if I went with 221s. Because of the improvement, it made me more addicted to the game. I’m down to a 10.2 3 seasons later and I think it’s time for another fitting. I can flirt with the idea of those 221s now but again will leave it in the hands of the fitter.
You can have my 3w you can have my 3W, 3i, and 4i. Just let me know who to leave it to in my will. I need to pluck something out though, probably my hybrid.
Okay 43.5 driver length , what shaft did you use and did you even care what swing weight was best ? Did you go heavier shaft to get to a certain D weight ?
Why would I dump the longest fairway club in my bag? Do you know that in mechanical driving tests that a 3w will go father than a 5w even down to a 60 MPH swing. Same is true for a 4 or 5 iron over shorter clubs. Sorry that you can't hit them. Guess you need to practice more. BTW. You should be able to sink more putts with an expensive DF3 putter. My advice, if you can hit them, play them. If you can't, take it out of the bag until you can.
I already cut my driver down to 42" so I can keep it in the middle. And I got rid of my 55 degree sand wedge and am using my Gap 50 degree and I added a 5 hybrid - 25 degree and 6 hybrid 28 degree to my arsenal. I guess you can say that my hybrids are my favorite clubs. I have the ability to hit straight with the 7 iron and on to the wedges and I mainly use my 5 and 6 iron for low shots under trees. Partially why I love this game of golf is that you have all of these weapons to accomplish whatever task you need and its fun experimenting. I'm in my 70's and I agree that you can have more fun by selecting the right clubs and club length for your game. Thanks for putting this up!
I switched from a bigger grip to a slimmer one that actually fits nicely in my hands and my putting improved dramatically. Don't believe the "bigger is better" hype. You need a grip that you can "lock in" with your hands, not one that your hands float on top of.
There's no way you're getting my 3 wood! It's the most versatile club in my bag. I can hit it with plenty of height and length; or hit a 180 yard stinger, 20 inches of the ground. Off the deck in the fairway or in the first cut easily.
I miiiiggghhhht can see shelving the 5 iron? But 6 iron, no way! And secondly, when you shorten a driver shaft you better make sure you have a quality club fitter who can properly add weight to the head to control swing weight. And good luck with that. Improper driver swing weight can cause serious dispersion numbers to suffer.
Great video! I’ve recently gone to a minimalist bag setup and love it. Less clubs means less indecision. Driver - Taylormade Original One 13.5* FW - Taylormade Sim2 18* Hyb- Taylormade RBZ 25* Irons- Mizuno JPX 919 HM 8-PW SW- Cleveland CBX Zipcore 56* Putter- Odyssey Oworks Versa #1 8 clubs total. Have played some of my best rounds so far. I also moved from white tees to gold. It’s been a lot better on my back.
I have a 16 degree 3 wood that I will NEVER take out of my bag. I carry that club 270 off the tee and I absolutely need it for dog leg lefts. My driver I hit in a range from 290-315 based on the quality of strike, but I CANNOT turn it over left! Long irons are for par 3’s and approach shots into par 5’s. That’s it🤷♂️If you don’t hit them great, it’s not the end of the world. I can understand playing hybrids, but I personally hit irons better than woods so that advice is based on the golfer and their strengths. Couldn’t agree more on the wedge advice though. I don’t understand why people have so many in their bags. Get a 56 degree and learn how to play it. If it’s all you have, then there is no excuse for not playing more with it and getting better. Blade putters are a thing of the past! They are all toe hang weighted which REQUIRES rotation through the stroke. That’s just dumb. Get a face balanced mallet or one of the new crazy L.A.B putters and watch how much more consistent your stroke is. Holing putts starts there and ends with better green reading. And now for driver shaft length. That bit you got spot on. Shorter equals more accurate and takes some of the flex out of the shaft. But most importantly, it shortens the tempo which is critical because when you hit driver, most people typically swing as hard as they can and forget all about tempo and timing!
Too general in your recommendations. Maybe you should encourage players to TRY doing these things and see how it works, instead of tellling them to bin these 5 clubs. Personally, I like carrying 3 woods, and I do hit my 3-wood farther than my 5-wood. I agree that mid-to-high handicappers don't hit their long irons that well, but every once in a while I do hit a good 5- or 6-iron. And I TOTALLY disagree with you on the 60° Wedge. That is one of my favorite clubs, I have confidence in it and hit it very well. Maybe it comes down to what kind of clubs people are using. For years I used clone clubs and did okay with them. But since 2022 I have been hitting better-engineered clubs that are forgiving. My Cobra woods hit straighter and longer than my old clone woods, and these are the LTDx models. My Cleveland Zip Core Wedges are great clubs that I hit well consistently, unlike the old clone models. And I use 52°, 56°, and 60° lofts. Just one man's opinion.
No one is taking my 3 wood out of my bag. I use it on shorter par 4's and I use it on tight par 5's where there is a premium on accuracy. It's actually a "strong" 3 (13* of loft rather than the usual 15-16). I also carry a 5 wood. It should be noted that I rarely hit either the 3w or 5w from the fairway. From there it's hybrids, 4, 5 & 6. Then the irons and wedges, 7, 8, 9, PW, AW, SW & LW. I'm 67 years old and play to a 5 handicap. My average total driver distance is 255 and I hit my 7-iron 175 (total) comfortably. All my clubs have stiff shafts, except the 5w. I do not have 5 clubs that I would ever take out of my bag. I use them all regularly. I may occasionally swap out my 5w for a 3h, it depends on the course and conditions.
I like my 6 iron. but I have a running joke about the shot I accidentally grabbed it, instead of my 9. turns out a !9 hits the ball a lot further than a 9i
Been saying some of this for years, and have gotten laughed at by my buddies. Make it easier on yourself. A). Driver. Choke down couple inches and become confident and learn how to hit it.( never got why everyone was gaga over a 3-wood off the tee). B) No 3 or 4 iron ( but I would keep a 6-iron) . C) Get a 5- hybrid. D) keep the 7, 8, 9. D) And this will go against a lot of thinking: keep one (ONE!) wedge. Maybe it’s the 48 or 52 that came with the original set. This business of, “ hmm my 56…., no hang on this precise yardage requires my 52…” that’s nonsense. Tour player thinking, and we aren’t tour players. E) Lastly, and this is not a technique/club thing, but especially applies to walkers: ditch the 50- balls in the bag, or the 30 balls in the cart bins. You aren’t losing that many balls…..carry a dozen.
Alex, I really enjoy your videos, but I had to keep turning my head or closing my eyes during this one. The videography was so choppy and jumping around. It reminded me of a Max Headroom video. Keep up the great training ideas.
I'm much more likely to launch a 3, 4 or 5 iron than I am a 5 wood or a 3 hybrid. And my 5 iron is my go-to iron for a play-safe 2nd shot on a par 5. My irons stay. And I have low swing speed of 75 mph for a 7 iron and 80 mph for a 5 wood. I have retired my 3 wood and switched to a mallet putter with a thick grip, though
Wrong, again. My 3 wood is a go to club, 16.5 degrees, HL Callaway AiSmoke, flies high, long and dead easy to hit. My club pro was so impressed, he purchased one. I get that its effectively a 4 wood, but your statement was too generalist and just isn’t true
Sorry can not agree. I play off 19 and my go to club s a 5 iron. Also carry a 4 iron. Just cant trust a hybrid so no point in having one. Agree with 5 wood and shorter shaft driver. As for putter what ever works for you.
My 7, 6, 5, and 4 irons are 10 yards apart and they stop on greens in a couple feet. Hybrids with longer shafts are not accurate for me. Know your game and use the clubs that work for you.
Swapped my 3w for a 4w. I had a mallet putter for years and was never really satisfied with it. Swapped earlier this year to a blade that I like a lot more, but agreed on the thicker grip. Got rid of my 3, 4, and 5 irons, I go from a 5w to a 4 and 5 hybrid, to a 6 iron (and on through wedges...PW, 52, 56, and 60). I largely only use my 60deg out of bunkers, to prevent the sand from damaging the grooves on my other wedges.
*Which 5 clubs will you be taking out the bag?*
What is a replacement for my 6 iron? I have a 25° hybrid instead of 5 iron but I've never seen, say, a 28°?
@@michaelbeaufoy483 I have a Ping 30 degree 6 hybrid and a 34 degree 7 hybrid.
@@tomanderson1129 Very good! I love this. Having better golf is more fun.
I recently found out that I hit my 3w farther than I hit my driver. Oh, and straighter.
Have recently gone 7W over 3H, prefer 4i to the 3H.
Have always played a Blade putter but it has a nice big grip on it. That’s not the weakest part of my game for sure
How are you liking the Maltby wedges? (I have Maltby irons) I’m always looking for a better one.
Absolutely agree, I also miss days the driver heads were smaller to be completely honest…

6 iron generally used if I need play a low one from trees.
carry driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. hit them far better than my irons. thinking about getting a 7 wood to get rid of the 5 iron
This exactly!!!
Get a 7 & a 9 W, dump your 4,5,6,7 irons, you'll never regret it!
Is there a big difference between chocking down the grip on a normal length driver and getting a slightly shorter shaft?
Great info Alex what do you recommend loft between each club
Thx for sharing your thought, these are things i definitely need to consider.
I wasnt confident with my 4 iron, im hitting it 220m. Dropped 3 wood for 5 wood, best change ever. Always played mallet putter.
( mid HCP)
Great content! Jumpy video!
How about the ball you use ?
I just put a 4 wood in. Took out the 3 and 5
Very interesting, I took out the 5 Iron 5 years ago, still love my 6 Iron because I'm very confident with it, exchanged the 3 Wood with a 5 Wood 4 years ago, chnaged from 60, 56, 52 Cleveland CG15 Wedges to 58 and 52 HiToe this year, also this year, changed from maliciously fitted (by a pro) 1" longer AP3 to standard length Darkspeed, which makes it much easier to hit the Irons well. Is it a coincidence, or just the natural way? ;-)
I just listened to all of this bad advice. Here's what you really need to know:
Yes, driver can be shorter shaft, but if you get one that is short, have a professional add mass to the club head to get the swing weight back to normal.
It’s odd but I putt much petter with a blade putter!
Same here.
Me in the garage now with clubs all over the floor mumbling about Alex’s video😂😂😢😢
My bag is 6-7-9-pw,50-56,driver 5 wood
Solid recommendation’s Alex.
2 putters
Blade for fast greens and summer
Mallet for winter and slow greens).
Some of the bunkers on my course have very little sand, so I was drawn to a 58 deg low bounce wedge. Was this a good decision?
I find it easier to control my blade putter my stroke as less movement also love my long irons
Okay 43.5 driver length , what shaft did you use and did you even care what swing weight was best ? Did you go heavier shaft to get to a certain D weight ?
How big a difference is that LAB putter making? Did you do a fitting?
As a 4 handicap, I play 1 iron model more forgiving than I could play! Instead of the Ping I series irons , I play the G series!
Love that!! Great handicap 🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@HowGoodGolf do you know any hybrid thats good and goes 150 yard? My 25 degree goes 160-165
5W, 7W, 9W, 8I 9I PW GW SW Mallet putter..........that`s it !!
The only club I’ve dropped before is my driver, I got a mini driver and the fact that a bad shot with it still doesn’t go OB helped me break 90.
Interesting how many talk about ditching the 3W for a 5W. I have and use both. Love my 3W. I also have a 7W.
What do you think is better mini driver or 2 inch shorter driver shaft would the head size make much of a difference
Smaller head means more club head speed.
Why can a person just choke down on the driver shaft instead of having a shaft cut down
Are you still using one length irons?
Brutal truth I need 🤣
Got rid of my useless 3 wood for something with more loft....I now use a 20+ year old Ping G2 2HL iron goes almost as far as my driver!
I agree!!
5 iron is best for low punch shots. Under a tree..must have club

8 clubs total.
That was intense viewing
I'm short as hell and I hit my 3 wood better than any other club in my bag
no hybrid and the 3 iron stays in the bag.
My wedges are 44, 52 and a 58, all I ever need
I like my 6 iron. but I have a running joke about the shot I accidentally grabbed it, instead of my 9. turns out a !9 hits the ball a lot further than a 9i
My blade putter is always better than my mallet putter - I have been using both for 2 years and blade is better-
Your driver is playing at 43.5 inches? Or did i just hear that completely wrong? I replayed it a couple times but am just missing it.
3W is like my wife..only in death do we part
Sorry my 6 iron is my favorite iron
If I hit my long irons the same distance as my 7 iron I'd have one length long irons
Alex, I really enjoy your videos, but I had to keep turning my head or closing my eyes during this one. The videography was so choppy and jumping around. It reminded me of a Max Headroom video. Keep up the great training ideas.
Sorry to disagree with you but I use my 6 and 5 iron more than any other iron
6 iron is my best club lol
I'm much more likely to launch a 3, 4 or 5 iron than I am a 5 wood or a 3 hybrid. And my 5 iron is my go-to iron for a play-safe 2nd shot on a par 5. My irons stay. And I have low swing speed of 75 mph for a 7 iron and 80 mph for a 5 wood.
I have retired my 3 wood and switched to a mallet putter with a thick grip, though
“I want a shorter shaft”… said no man ever 😂
I absolutely spank my 3 wood, I ditch the 5 wood for a 16* hybrid.
Try a Callaway heavenhood 7 wood with 3 wood length shaft great club. Sorry but I for one aren't going to spend $500 for the putter your using.
Darn and I just bought a 2 wood......
