Perodua Ativa 1.0 Turbo - A Fun-filled Drive to Penang with Alex's Family |

  • There seemed to be some skeptics who claimed the Perodua Ativa would not be a good vehicle for travelling outstation, especially for longer journeys, based on the speculation that the 1.0 liter engine did not have enough power, or would not last the journey.
    Thus when we needed to do a #DriveToPlay episode with a young man and his family, the Perodua Ativa became the obvious choice, purely from a curiosity point of view, and also to bust the myth.
    Well, everything went without a hitch, but do watch the video and share our journey; let us know your comments below, and finally, don't forget to share and subscribe.
    Till we meet again in our next video, cheers!

    I own the cheapest variant, which has the same engine and drivetrain as this top variant. As a Sabahan, I had owned & driven various full-sized 4 wheel drive vehicles over the years, from the Isuzu Trooper 2.8 Turbo to the Bighorn 3.1 Turbo, including the Toyota Land Cruiser BJ200 series.
    To the skeptics, it is all about Power to Weight ratio, and the Ativa has plenty, having around roughly 100 horsepower per ton. The Ativa's suspension is probably the BEST that I have ever experienced, including fully modified ones in the vehicles mentioned before, even better than the BJ200 series Toyota Land Cruiser. West Malaysians will always use the Genting road as a comparison, but for us Sabahans, the Kimanis-Keningau road will show any deficiencies.
    Kudos to Uncle YS Khong and gang....

      The Ativa survived that? Now i'm surprised. I thought it would whimper and fail. No offense, I like what I see in Ativa (but never experienced it). My litmus test (as a Sandakan-ite) would be the Cecily road pass. But for long haul torture test, I'm looking at the Sipitang-Tenom-Keningau-Kimanis (or maybe even a backdrive to Tambunan-Ranau) route. But if you're saying it can go through all that with no problems... I'm amazed at that 3-cyclinder 1.0 turbo mated with CVT.

      @@badiyee Golden Rule: Power to Weight ratio..... I'm also originally from Sdk, and running along the KK-Ranau or Kimanis-Keningau stretch, I can easily outrun/outclimb ANY Toyota Prado (1KZ and 1KD engines) or any LandCruisers..... And a far more stable yet supple suspension. This comes from a guy who has driven 4WDs for 30 yrs.

    The Ativa is indeed a decent car to drive. It's not without it's fault and niggles for sure, yet it's been quite an impressive car to use.
    Happy and proud Ativa owner since April 21 and it's been quite a transformation from the first day till how it looks today. :)

    What a great value for a small family, but for me when it comes to Power mode, power wasn't enough when it comes to Power/Sport Mode. It gives you a fast responsive, rather than adding extra speed which is kind of disappointing. I watched a battle of Old Myvi VS Ativa and Ativa had suffered major loss on power.
    I was considering what to buy either HRV Mid-Spec Turbo, Proton X50, or the new D66B from Perodua which will be launched at the end of next year.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, there is a huge price gap between the C50, HRV from the Ativa, so that is a big factor in the decision making.

    Owned Ativa for almost one year (one year anniversary soon)
    Good car overall for me:
    1) luggage space is larger than I'm expected (can fit 20kg +7kg + 7kg with some numbers of boxes and bag still got some space)
    2) Power is enough for me, usually can get 12 km/l to 13km/l if heavy city drive, 15 km/l if city highway half half and 17km/l if heavy highway drive
    3) BSM and RTCA is quite handy function and I'm remember it was the first car that offer this on below 80k car
    Wish to see some improvement for upcoming facelift:
    1) change the player to the one Alza having right now (with Android Auto and Apple Carplay and 360 camera), and wish they offer option to can have old model to just upgrade player only (so we no need to go aftermarket solution)
    2) inclusion of EPB with auto hill hold
    3) ACC acceleration and deceleration algorithm could be improved
    Also I hope Perodua Auto Assist insurance plan can have better communication between those insurance panel and workshop, been have some minor incident which make my front bumper pecat and I'm been wait for one and half months to make the front bumper repair done.

    The secret to Penang food is the soya sauce, both light and dark. Most of us Penang Lang cari makan in Klang Valley cannot tahan the soya sauce here. Whenever we go back to Penang, we fill half our trunks with soya sauce to bring back to our KL home. Ask you Penang friends if you don't believe me.

    Greetings Sir Ys...is there any video of you on how to drive automatic car properly, i watched how you drive AT Myvi to the genting highland and you drive it very fast even though is an AT car...the purpose i request for such a video is because not for racing it's just i want to know how to drive an AT car without losing any power, usually i drive MT car(rent car) and i planning to buy Avanza 2016 but no MT available...can you help me with this? tq

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Avanza 2016 are mostly auto.
      Anyway to drive auto, just put it into D and accelerate.
      If you need power, you can shift through the hears. Some autos have manual shifts, so you can pick one with manual shifts. If you want power, just buy a car with more power. The Avanza is a very nice workhorse vehicle, not a sports car.

    I rode one in Grab , it had a choppy ride in the rear...looking at the very short wheelbase, I can see why...

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmmm. Then you need to buy a larger SUV.

  • @ongsemwee
    @ongsemwee ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Personally I think Ativa is suitable for mid to long range driving with less loaded luggage, but not so suitable for city drive in term of fuel economy.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmmm, that is an interesting statement. In theory, it should also be good for city, because at low speeds, the turbo is hardly actuacted, so fuel economy should be good, but a lesser powered 1.0 litre vehicle would probably be marginally better, since there is no tirbo, but you would feel the lack of power at other times, especially in the ring roads where you have the opportunity to use more acceleration, but cannot. So perhaps it is better to have the turbo at hand.

    • @ongsemwee
      @ongsemwee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YSKhongDriving my fuel consumption is 10+-km/liter in city drive, about 13km/liter for long distance drive... Probably because i already get used with Manual Myvi 1.3 , cant handle well with Ativa turbo CVT at town road.

      Default nope, Perodua do offer on gear up but I think you can go for aftermarket one on that (eg: 70mai)
