I love my OmniPod 5. Been on it for 6 months now. TIR is 95%. Average sugar is 125. A1C is 6.1. Avg insulin use went from 35 units a day to 26. Carbs are about 120 grams a day.
@@johchadow fairly strict. I’ve cut way back on dairy and meat. Typical dinner is veges and small portion of meat. Or, no meat; vege dish instead. I still get my 3 squares of Aldi’s dark chocolate almost every night, 😀along with a piece of fruit.
My daughter is torn (age 17)…on DASH, she has an A1C from mid-5s to 6.2 (all 5s for at least 2.5 years now) with high TIR and 5% or less lows…she likes the right control she is able to keep, but the safety of having the OP5 loop once away at college sounds good, too. Do you see being able to tweak things to attain an A1C in the 5s do you think? Thanks, and congrats - sounds like you are rocking things!!
@@happyfamily1298 I’m happy at 6.1. I’d be willing to try for 6 or maybe 5.9, but for me anything lower outmost likely mean too many lows. I’m 68, and have been type 1 since 1970.
@@happyfamily1298e been trying to tweak things too since we started the 5 but wow it’s been like 5 weeks and I’m still tweaking it for my 12yo daughter. I’m in your 5ish A1C camp too but with the 5 she went up to 6.1 while tweaking. My daughters Endo freaks out when I tell her I want tight control. They are super happy when she’s 180s. Blows my mind because that’s so unhealthy. They also have a heartache when I say the forbidden words: low carb.
Thank you. It’s been fun these last few weeks with the Omnipod 5 doing it’s job so I can focus on losing the weight. I can’t wait for what the next few months have in store.
Glad to hear about your weight loss. I recently had a drastic weight loss duh to my diabetes when I ate carbs I always crashed low even tho I’ve had the same settings for several years I was 190 ish currently I’m 147.8 (also 6’6 in height) I just got the omnipod5 and I’m hoping with the automatic mode I can start to eat carbs again without having a low
Have you tried changing your insulin to carb ratio? It is likely that it is too low and needs to increase. I.e. if your current ratio is 1u to 5g, try 1u to 7g
I agree which honestly I think is a good thing for most of us. When I was younger I didn’t think about being on a low carb diet or at least not eating a ton of carbs every day. I feel so much better on low carb, than I did before.
Not sure if you’ve come across the book Mastering Diabetes. Has worked really well for my 10 year old daughter-dropped from 7 to 5.4 (I’m at 5.0)-and they also emphasize intermittent fasting as well.
Thank you. I have been having issues with the Samsung S20 plus phone app. wasted a few pods due to communication error. almost every review of the app on Google play had the same issue. Is there any updates from Insulet regarding them. Contacting customer support is a nightmare. Thanks again
Thanks Justin I love watching your videos I'm very new to omni pod and I'm having a little trouble I don't know if its you know me being a knew omnipod user and it's me but I try to use the automatic setting quite often and it tells me Value error quite often if I leave it on automatic too long is that normal
Just read over everything and work with your care team. You will get it figured out. If you make any adjustments give it a week or two to see if there is a difference. The pump won’t change over night.

I’m hoping once I get to my ideal weight I will have similar daily insulin needs with that daily carb amount.
Thank you for the comment

Glad it’s working for you. I’m still having problems getting use to mine. Been on for two weeks.
Wow thank you for your video. Wonderful news about the alerts. The G3’s constant alerts are annoying and ridiculous.
I have that same problem w/my G3! Sometimes out of the blue for the most ‘stupid’ reasons!
You're looking great Justin! Congrats on the weight loss!!👍

I'm switching from t slim x2 to the Omnipod 5. I'm excited for the tubeless!
You will love being tubeless.
Thanks so much for your videos Justin. I've had the O5 for a couple weeks now. It definitely likes a low carb diet better than carbs!

No Sheila that’s not normal. I’m not sure what this error is because I have never seen it. I’m in auto mode 100% of the time.
@@TheJjfrasier Thank you I have to be doing something wrong, I have to go over my user guide to find out exactly what I'm doing wrong
