How was the switch from medtronic to the Omnipod 5 with your insurance. I have talked to several people that tried to switch , but their insurance would not fully cover the pods. The insurance issue seems to be that omnipod runs through your prescription side instead of durable medical equipment.
I didn’t have an issue with the switch. My I insurance covered the pods. I got my started kit then had to do my first pod supply order after the 10 pods in the starter kit were used. My medtronic pump just went out of warranty a few days ago.
That is good to hear. I am on the Medtronic 770G and am having some issues with it especially the awful sensor. I stayed with them because my insurance covers everything from Medtronic at 100%. I am hoping to hear what my insurance will cover for the Omnipod in a few days.
@@aprilpaul2173 Let me know how it goes. I've been on the Medtronic system for about 2 and 2 thirds years now. If I have a choice at the 4 year point I want to be better informed this next time around. It seems like everyone prefers the Dexcom with the omnipod or the Tandem T-slim with the Dexcom. Which is easier to live with and/or which device is the "smartest"?
@@jackschitt6235 the tandem smart iq I have heard is amazing. Rn I'm using the freestyle libra 2 and daily injection. And I'm currently doing all the research I can to decide between the tandem and omnipod.
So, I jumped on the Omnipod 5 after getting completely drained with Medtronic. I'm excited! Not sure if it's going to be life changing yet. But I'm on my first pod so I'm hoping it'll get better. One thing I still don't know how to find is total daily insulin use...
I did have the reverse correction in at first. However I have turned it off. I haven’t noticed a change yet. In auto mode our automated mode there isn’t an option for extended bolus. If you break the boluses up you could replicate an extended bolus. I hope that helps.
I am now using the dexcom Cgm instead of medtronic Cgm. l am waiting on ins. approval for OP5. I have found it more accurate that medtronic Cgm, ad haven't had any issue of it fall off either.
Thank you. And currently the Omnipod 5 only has an Android app. However, if you are an iPhone user you can use the controller that comes with the pump.
I'm a corrections officer and phones arnt allowed in the prison. Can everything be done with the receiver that comes with the omnipod 5? Also do I still need my dexcom receiver or does the omnipod device take its place?
You could leave your phone and receiver in a locker if needed. They both don’t have to be on your body. The pump and dexcom will communicate on their own. If you could check your receiver every few hours then you will be good. Just checking to see if you need a correction and when you eat for lunch. I often leave mine in my office once I get to work.
@@TheJjfrasier thanks. Is the receiver capable of sending texts, calls or other communications via the data connection? If it does then it won't be approved thru the gate.
It does have a data connection however it is a managed device so the only thing that can be done on the device is the omnipod app. When you power on the device it loads as an omnipod device. You can’t have it send or revive any data. The cellular connection is strictly used to upload pump data to the cloud.
Is there a way to make the BG to show on the lock screen of the PDM?
Not that I’m aware of.

do you use „reversed correction“ ON or OFF
when do you start bolusing prior to meal
do you use extended bolus with high carb meals
I have the same question

Does iPhone works with omnipod 5?? I heard it only works with Android? Nice video.😊
