    I am surprised that so many people are having problems with Dexcom!! I haven't had issues (thank God) in months. I truly can not complain - I was diagnosed at age 4 and I am now 49 and I am proud to say that I survived most of my life without a pump nor having a CGM. Heck, up until I was 17 there was no way to check your blood glucose at home. I have only gone into DKA once so I feel very blessed. I have all my fingers and toes plus my kidney function is great (again I thank God).

    We have had issues with Dexcom working lately too. It’s frustrating!! I literally chuckled out loud when you got a notification on your watch that Henry was borderline low and then you just jumped back and finished your conversation. That was me literally 2 hours ago at work with my son. I had alarms going off on my phone and he was 62 steady…I was like nah he is fine and carried on. ☺️

      😄 We really don't actually treat if he's 64 stable. We call that good. We do treat at 64 angle down though.

    I hear you Amy! Sometimes ours is so off. One time I got a high alert in the middle of the night gave her insulin and an hour later she was higher I thought I’d prick her finger she was 68 🤦‍♀️ So then she had all this insulin on board. It’s really rare for ours to work the full ten days.

    I just started the OmniPod 5 today, in a trial program. Previously, Ive been on MiniMed pumps since 1993. 6 hours later, I’m already liking it better. I’ve been on Dexcom G6 for over a year, and I love it, also. The only time I’ve had a problem (just a few times) is false low readings when the sensor is new.

    Last I checked, I am in the same boat with my insurance not covering any pump stuff under pharmacy benefit. However, I am DIY Looping with the Eros pods and Dexcom G6 and LOVE IT. Incredibly beneficial for me personally. Note that said, I have had some issues with Dexcom reading much lower than I actually am. So to stay on top of that I have reverted back to using more finger sticks. But with that additional data Loop does an amazing job of staying on top of things. I can't imagine my life without Loop.

    For Tandem, you would call in to support and they would send you a new Dexcom sensor and tell you to change the sensor. At that point, it is so far off that it will never work. I would then punch in the correct BG and do a correction until the warm up period is done.

    • @dreamflight6000
      @dreamflight6000  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dexcom doesn't replace the sensors anymore if they are 7 days old or more. I don't know why they even say they last 10 days.

    • @KB-ic6dm
      @KB-ic6dm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @dreamflight6000 Really? When I have called into support, they have replaced mine even on my 9th and 10th day. I know depending upon where you are in the sensor life, Tandem support will take the call, or they will transfer it to Dexcom support. I think the longer it is in, the issue becomes Tandem problem, so to speak.

    Please understand that Dexcom works, but every person’s body is different. I wear my Dexcom sensor for 20 days. After 10 days, I pop the transmitter out, wait 15 minutes and then restart the old sensor like it was new. I finger stick on the second use because it is usually off. Within an hour, I have it calibrated back in range. The second 10 days is as accurate as the first 10. I do this to be frugal. But I realize many people have sensors that quit working, give inaccurate readings or won’t stick to their skin and my hear goes out to them.

    We had that issue with Dexcom not lasting too until we moved our sons Dexcom to his inner/front thigh. We almost had to give up on it because it would not work in his arms or stomach.

    I use a TSlimX2 with ControlIQ (Tandem's closed loop system) so it be different, but, in addition to calibrating in the pump, I am able to override the blood sugar number in the pump to what the meter says in order to do a correction. I can also do rapid boluses (pressing a button that releases a preset amount- 0.5 units for each time I press the top button in my case) or just enter an amount of insulin manually. Again, Omnipod's functionality may be different (I kind of want to try out the 5), but if it's similar to Tandem, there may be some, shall we say, flexibility in delivering insulin as needed.

    I'm a 30 year old type 1 diabetic of 13 years and I just got approved through my NYS medicaid insurance for the omnipod via the delivery service that delivers my dexcom supplies. I needed to get a new phone however (s21 or s22 5G the list includes only a couple others) it must be a Samsung/galaxy phone, the closed loop software will not currently run on any Apple OS. I'm still waiting for the pump to arrive so that i can schedule the training session.

    Zingerman's!!!! An Ann Arbor Michigan institution! Sadly, I don't live there anymore and I sure miss it! Any Saturday or Sunday you will find lines around the block for bread and oils vinegars etc.. The baked goods are great too (it's a dangerous place for type 1s like me and your son though) Thanks for the video. I've been using the dexcom with the tandem pump with some success but I understand what you mean about the dexcom's occasional sluggishness. Thanks nice lady!

    I’m a type 1 myself and just got my omnipod 5. I am going through the training now. I have similar and additional concerns about the G6 myself so I am going manual mode most likely until Insulet has either the Libre 2 or 3 integration done or the g7 integration done. I’ve tried the g6 a couple times and disliked it myself. Either it would jam on application or not read accurately or the gigantic applicator would get stuck to me. I also don’t love the two piece deal of the g6 or the 10 day max it has (my Libre is one piece, smaller applicator, and goes 14 days max and I usually get that or very close to it out of most sensors). But I’m going to stick to using my Freestyle Libre 2 separately alongside the Omnipod 5 until they have another CGM offering available for automatic mode. I realize I’m missing out on the automatic features but to me personally it’s worth avoiding the hassles I’ve had with the G6 plus I think it’s probably good to be familiar with how to use the 5 in manual mode as you do have to switch to it when changing your CGM and adjusting certain settings anyway. That’s my 2 cents on it :) Good luck to you!

    Excited for you guys. Hopefully you can upgrade soon. Could it be a hydration problem with Dex? I find that if I'm dehydrated mine acts funny, but mine lasts and I do extend. I do calibrate every morning when i'm the most stable.
    I feel you on the new tech though, I'm on the T:slim but have not yet upgraded to Control IQ. I love Basal IQ because it will suspend me, but on the other hand CIQ does so much more.

    Hi we have the Tslim and the dexcom. My Son is 9. He was diagnosed 7 months ago. The tslim turns off if he's going low and gives him an automatic correction if he's predicted to go above 180. We have noticed the dexcom hasn't been lasting or not working as well. They just work together. We have had a few times where the dexcom was like 100 points off, so we would change it. I know you think it would impact the pump but thank God it didn't. I can't explain it. I don't like the tubing from the t slim but bc if it's capabilities we picked it over the omni pod. I would prefer the omni 5 now but i will let the glitches from it being new to subside then maybe i will look into it. Good luck. Melissa from NY

    Here are some tips for keeping the Dexcom on ten days! (Hope this helps)

    :use overlay patches they are so helpful. That’s it!

      I have been using Dexcom G6 for a 2-3 years and can't think of ever having my sensor last less than 10 days. I was also told not to put anywhere except for my stomach. I also use over patches each time I change my Dexcom sensor. About 4-6 weeks ago, I started using the Omnipod 5. The first week was a test of patience but then it started to work wonderful. I have an issue with my cell phone not being compatible with Dexcom G6 or Omnipod 5. My phone was working until 2/17/2023 and it just stopped. When I called Dexcom, I was told I would need to get a new cell phone that was compatible or just use the receiver. But I was told by Omnipod that I can't use the Dexcom receiver along with the Omnipod receiver. Now I don't get blood sugar readings on anything so I'm back to sticking my finger many times a day. REALLY FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW!!!!
      If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to advise.

    So exciting, can't wait for it to be released in the UK (goodness knows how far away that'll be though). Shame your sensors aren't working, I wonder why - mine seem fine, if anything it's just annoying I can't restart them like I could with the G4. Not sure how the loop system would work if you're not finding the dexcom to be reliable...

    If you're having so many problems with the CGM it'd probably be best to stick to manual mode until you get that figured out. Dexcom is great for us except for maybe the first night. I plan on keeping Omnipod 5 in manual mode for the first night on a sensor change so it doesn't overreact to the inevitable dexcom wonkiness we get at first. Hopefully the dexcom 7 improves on that but hey, I'll definitely take letting an algorithm take over temp basals. Especially when I can't control it while I sleep or he's at school.
    Lunch followed by recess time is the heart of my anxiety right now. My son's school has recess an hour after lunch...where he's had a big bolus for the carbs. So he just kind of plummets for a few updates when he's active and I internally freak out that I can't adjust his basal to accommodate for that. So I let his basal schedule on the Dash to let up during recess where he gets up to ~180 with some wiggle room to go down...but what if he has inside recess due to weather? Well, he keeps climbing up >200 until I pick him up from school and do a temp basal and/or bolus to get him back down before dinner.
    Having the Omnipod 5 where I can schedule targets, have it automatically turn off insulin delivery based on trends or increase basal rates due to highs will be such a godsend if they got their algorithms right.

    Sounds like your getting bad sensors. My sensors usually last 10 days. I'm on tandem. If a sensor is off you need to change it immediately because if the sensor is off the algorithm doesn't work. Remember dexcom will give you as many sensors as you need for replacement. Hope that helps!

    i have found that if i put clear covering over my dexcom g6 that is last and also you should alaways, Always, ALWAYS calibrate at least twice and day, no matter what the product says. I am a very, very, very brittle type 1 and no cgm could keep up with me until the G6, but if I do not calibrate twice a day it doesn't work correctly. Since calibrating twice a day i have had soooo many UNICORNS!! (where my cgm g6 and my glucose meter numbers are exactly the same!! It has been wonderful. I hope this can help your son. Wish you guys the best! #Type1Strong

    It probably doesnt work for now. The problem is sensors read intersticial fluids not blood, and some Times they do difer a lot, for instance after a workout, i always read lower, eaven if im not, and during the workout i tendo to go Higher then i realy am. Blood test is the best, but if you do it a lot youl never trust your sensor, so right now i ONLY use the sensor, and after a Wille youl understand it. But i Guess i would never trust the current tecnologie to dicide insuline doses for me, i much prefer to dose based on some Numbers but never forgetting what i feel....
