    how beautiful! I just yesterday purchased my first Vanda. Thank you for all you do. I just LOVE you and your videos. I love the way you clip right along, not dragging out the subject matter. I love the fact that you never say "UH, UM, Y'KNOW, etc) I love that your video is always centered on your subject with just your hand to direct attention, accent information. I love that you don't waste time with a bunch of extraneous minutiae. I JUST LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I've watched all the 'orchid aficionados' and while they have some good info, they are just too drawn out with useless filler words. You are the BEST of all!

    You have the answer to everything related to orchids and so specific. It's amazing whenever I search specific questions, you usually have a video made especially with answers to what I was looking for and include details/science behind it all. I love and appreciate all the explanations, thank you!

    What a lovely setup. I am also using that coconut fiber for my Max ten and Catasetum types. Looking forward to seeing how it works.

      Longer strands of coconut (coir) fiber is much better than the finely cut fiber. Fine fiber holds excess water and tends to pack causing roots to drown.

    I am VERY interested in this method! So far the microfiber is working for me but you know, functional AND aesthetically pleasing = win! ;)

    These baskets look really appealing. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the colour will block the moisture reliably and there will be no build-ups of any kind or algae in the future. :)

  • @belfagor80

    But once the roots get out of the basket and they keep growing, these won't be any longer affacted by the coconotu fibers, right? Will you then just shower them?

    • @seksualusis
      @seksualusis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either put them in, or leave alone, as most of them will still be within coconut fiber cloud, retaining water there, which would be sufficient. Occasional aerial roots do happen in the upper part, too - not critical at all.

    Hi Danni. My Vanda is about to finish blooming but the node on the spike below the blooms is swollen and looks like it wants to create a second bloom? To my knowledge vandas can’t do that. I’d greatly appreciate your thoughts!

    How do you fertilize in this new set-up where you are simply dunking the Vanda? Thanks for all of your wonderful videos. Have learned so much from you!

    • @kenjiro2676
      @kenjiro2676 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deborah Hall you spray the roots or put fertilizer in the water and let them soak for like 5-10 min.

    I was given a Vanda last week. It is in orchid mix in a plastic pot. The roots are dehydrated. I am misting the roots twice a day, I am watering every three days. How often should I water?

    As your Vandas roots were long, I assume you trimmed the roots before putting them in the baskets. If so, how much did you cut off?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I didn't trim them, I fitted them all in the basket as best as possible :)

    I currently live in Miami, FL
    I don’t have time to water everyday
    Would your basket set up work for me here in my climate??

      Which was not to success. You don't keep orchid roots in water permanently. Instead, your bet is arrangement, where you have lowest level containing water, with roots contained somehow above, but never into.

    I love them in the basket too, but they take up more space in baskets ,so I can't put all of mine in baskets! nice set up!

    Do you use the same bucket of water for all your vandas? Are you afraid of cross-contamination if one is developing a yellow leaf?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, when sharing water cross contamination is guaranteed. It's important to know the orchids you decide to share water with and accept the risk. A yellow leaf however is, in 90% of cases, natural regeneration and not a disease :)

    What about your Neofinetia (Vanda) Falcata, did you also convert them into baskets or still in semi-hydroponic setup?

    What do you do with Vanda's with very long roots

  • @avengeleenswamy2427

    Hi....just needed some advise. My first vanda. It had a new bud, which succumbed to wilting. I cut it off since it was dying. Now the leaves from where the bud was are turning yellow too. It's progressing upwards.
    It does have one bigger and about 2 new shoots coming.
    So question is....is it safe to cut off the plant from where the yellowing is happening? Will the bottom leaves manage to keep the shoots alive?
    Apologies for being so detailed. And thank you.

    • @seksualusis
      @seksualusis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Details do matter. Wherever you see tissue has definitely lost its ability to live and thrive, it is fine and recommended even to be removed: cut off, or similar.

    Hi Danny,Is it okay is I grow a Vanda in water culture in a glass vase? Will it go bad?😣😣

    • @seksualusis
      @seksualusis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely, if roots are permanently in water. What you can do, is to put something like some stones at the bottom, so that roots get this support, yet water level is kept below the roots. Evaporating water will make just right wet climate for the roots. You might need to get stones out occasionally and wash from algae. Also, it should be observed that stones are not the overly cold element to make touching root uncomfortable. Some porous material could be suitable substitute in this case. Clay pellets could do.

    How often do you change the water in the bucket?

    • @seksualusis
      @seksualusis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Until it stinks, you shouldn't worry, really, unless you have ample of fresh rain water, and go luxury for your plants.

    Nice job vary beautiful. you need air in the water. A big air-stonein in there will help

    Hey Danni! So I bought some orchids recently, and as I was there, there was a really interesting orchid that I want to know the name of. It was misidentified, and the person doesn't really know what the plant is. She said it came from a collection and did not come with a label. The orchid itself has no leaves, but the interesting part is that the stems look like dendrobium, but before each node, the stem swells and looks like a reverse pear. Do you know what that is?

    • @allbackiceland
      @allbackiceland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whenever I try to identify an orchid I do a Google image search. Even if you don't find what you're looking for you always see more orchids to drool over.

      James Thomas its sound like den nobile ....or some species..

    • @JamesThomas-qd7hp
      @JamesThomas-qd7hp 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true :), but I did do this initially, and it came back with the result as Nepenthes, which is definitely not what it is.

    • @JamesThomas-qd7hp
      @JamesThomas-qd7hp 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not a Nobile type, that I am sure of, but It sure is definitely a species as that nursery specialises in species, primary hybrids and Hoyas.
