I tried this setup, and my vandas are LOVING it. I always had trouble growing roots on mine, and now they’re sending roots out like crazy.

    Nice video...
I just ordered 2 Vandas. I have one growing in my Garden, its attached to the trunk of our jackfruit tree...it hasn't bloomed yet since I purchased it last year.
So, I was thinking of potting my newly purchased vandas differently to see if that would make a difference, and found your video.
    Its really helpful
    Thanks 😊

Hi Dani, I just ordered two Vandas, they haven't arrived yet. This tutorial is just what I needed. I'm going to pot one like you've just shown and one in Lecca with the moss. So excited. Thanks again.

Hi Danny! I live in Southern New Mexico in the USA. (desert southwest). This video really came in handy. I kept damaging my Vanda's roots dunking in buckets. I have since planted in a plastic orchid pot with the large holes, bark and a little moss. I am able to see a root through one of the holes and it stays green for almost a week. I soak the pot once a week and the vanda seems to be doing well. A whole lot less work. Thanks for the info I may now be able to get more vandas now that they are manageable.

Hi Danny =) could you please make a video about Vanda maintenance?
    so, questions I thought of:
How to identify dead roots? do roots continue to be useful if a middle part is dead the same way that phal roots does? Is a yellow root ok? as well as how to control algae on the roots and how to clean the leaves? and how can you see if the leaves get enough light? should the leaves be dark or light green?
I mostly find videos about watering and potting them but not an extensive care guide, would be amazingly helpful to have.
I just got a big vanda ascocenda this christmas so these were questions that came to me while doing a thorough health checkup as these were things i were wondering about. Btw, I keep the big one bare rooted, but I do have a potted tricolor seedling as well =)
Keep up the good work, love the videos =)

Hi Danny. Thank you. I've been growing a vanda, roots without media also and they're doing fabulously, but is very very time consuming. Is exciting to see with light green or purple tips when growing aggressively. Perhaps for the winter will try with media and switch back to media free during summer. I tried water culture during spring and did well with many new root tips popping out. The one exception was one root that was inactive became covered with black fungus. I had to remove the dead root and use physan 20 to clear the fungus. I returned to roots in open air with daily hourly water soaks and roots continued growing well, my one and only vanda -Vanda Pacharia Blue (purple??). 30 years experience, thought was 20 ? 🙈

Hi Dani 😁 I have been watching your videos for years, and recently started collecting other orchids besides phalaenopsis. I have so many now and love your cover pots. I don't think I have seen in any video you mention where you get them. Can you please tell us where you get some of them? Thank you so much for you content. I have learned so much 🥰

Hi Danny! Thank you for all your wonderful work. I have a question, not necessarily related to this specific video, but more in general to re-potting Orchids: Is there a big problem if we bury the aerial roots, especially in case the plant has almost no good roots in the medium? Thank you! Multumesc mult și mult succes în tot ceea ce faci! Sunt fană a canalului tău și datorită ție am reușit sa salvez cateva Phelanopsis, iar azi am făcut prima comandă de alte soiuri.

Hi Danny!! I have recently acquired a Vanda from my local orchid show. It was very root bound with her roots growing around the basket both at the bottom and top ring and out of the sides. I couldn’t stand to see her like that do I painstakingly cut the basket away from her. I have before and after pictures. Well after inspecting her roots I found a nest of snails with what appears to be very tiny snails in the vicinity of the cave. I also noticed white areas oblong in shape around that same side. I’ve soaked her in peroxide 3 separate times.
How do I make sure I have killed all the bad guys?? Should I try and untangle her roots?
I am letting her have a weeks rest and then I will re-evaluate her. I’m sure there will he some roots that were damaged while taking her out of her basket.
Any advice would be most appreciated
    Shellie

When did she leave semi Hydro for regular potting mixture? I put my rhyncostylis gigantea in Leca as suggested and the roots seem to be dry rotting. Have no idea what’s going on. Have been babying this plant for two years with nothing but one leaf to show for it! Help!

I recently pitted my big vanda in a set up just like yours in a clay pot. However I have no idea how often I should water it. I keep my house between 70-75° F. Should I water once a week or twice a week? I’m worried that the roots might get to suffocated or not enough water

Is it okay to have horticultural charcoal, perlite mixed in with bark and sphagnum moss? Or is it best to leave it out?
Also my root are more white and dryer looking than yours, is that a bad sign?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, it's not bad, but can be uneccesary. Charcoal, perlite, sponge rock, lava rock etc, they aerate the medium, but overal contribute to less water retention. If you feel that's what you need, that's great, if you feel things are drying too fast, you can skip them. Dry roots are not bad, just dry, if the orchid looks healthy and hydrated, all is good ☺️

I have a keiki growing at the highest nodeof my Phal’s flower stem that was cut after the last bloom. It’s time to bloom, why am i getting a keiki instead of blooms? Will it hurt either mom or keiki if I transplant to check for root rot?
