    My friend has the symbol in the art of cryptic command as a tattoo. Things like that are good ideas for magic tattoos that don't scream "I play magic", but to any enfranchised magic player, they know.

    Gotta say, I'm not a fan of having emblem interaction. Probably because in 90% of the cases, you have someone tick up a planeswalker for like 5 turns, spending resources into protecting it and all of that, only for them to emblem and next thing they know all of that was wasted. Just my opinion though

      Yeah, Emblems are generally meant to herald the end of the game, and being able to remove them is just not good design space. It's the same issue with being able to remove poison counters from yourself, and why there have been no new ways to do it.

    Losing 5 coin flips in a row is Ral's specialty

      I vividly remember the only time I ultimated old ral, the one where you take an extra turn for each heads. I lost every single coin flip and he immediately got removed from the deck.

    1:23:00 You could still have cast the Static Prison first. Wish says "You may cast a card from your sideboard *this turn* ", it doesn't require you to do so immediately

    Hey @mtggoldfish at 1:01:40. You cast a RAL. Afterwords cast a sorcery. In response to the enemy lightning bolt, you can cast the rituel instant in exile. If you win the flip, you can flip the ral and Fissel the bolt?

    Hey Seth! (And community!) Long time watcher here!! Love the content as always! I might have a bit of a ranty idea (mostly justifications for it) to present as we approach Pro Tour MH3 this weekend! Let me preface with the idea that Modern is in quite an interesting place right now, and the call for bannings at every interval is getting exhaustive. It's interesting to me that Timeless now exists and if you'll allow me a moment of delusion, I might posture towards a new unseen future for the game.
    Modern when it was within its infancy was intended to be swingy format where no one was winning the game outright and definitively by Turn 4. So many decks have come and gone thanks to the interest of preserving this idea. But Modern is now almost 15 years old (Jesus I feel ancient typing that out) and the game/format has undergone a rigorous gauntlet of power creep, continual bannings and disenfranchised players as they buy into the game only to have their most expensive pieces outright unplayable due to some perceived need to preserve this "Turn 4" ideology of the format.
    What if we unbanned everything? Would Eldrazi run rampant again with Eye of Ugin? Would Storm be the only playable deck because it's so fast and consistent? Would Hogaak just race everything else outright and be the end-all be all? And what of Affinity with those Artifact lands? Does Miracles really seem like an issue when they're dead on T3? Do we really care that Modern is a "no one wins before turn 4" format any longer when the power creep and aging of the format alone have pushed it to be the Legacy-Lite format it's come to be today? Considering all the free spells (Including counters!) is Splinter Twin really a problem in a format where everyone is trying to win on Turn 2 or 3? Is the idea that the format NEEDS to be a Turn 4 format really that important anymore? What is that supposed to mean for players? That we cant handle a faster paced format like Legacy? Why shouldn't Modern evolve?
    The naysayers will say it's a terrible idea and Modern should be strictly regulated to the old Turn 4 win rhetoric. But I postulate that Timeless is a test to see how well a Modern day format can handle power creep without bannings and only restricting the truly oppressive strategies. Decks can continue to exist when they're allowed to have 1-ofs. Not nearly as consistently, but that's kind of the point of restriction. Of course, there's no saying an outright ban couldn't happen again for the sake of a Restriction not being enough (though I doubt many decks will spawn from the opportunity to play a single copy of Hypergenesis or Krark Clan Ironworks, for that matter.) Is Dark Depths oppressive when you can only play one? Or Mental Misstep? It's honestly laughable that Umezawa's Jitte is still on the banlist at this junction in the format's life.
    It's my bewildered idea that we unban it all, let the bullets fly and the gunsmoke settle until the meta itself develops and then we look at the big problematic outliers that are killing everyone on Turn 1 and restrict what makes those decks insane (Eye of Ugin goes to 1 now so the Free Mimics option isn't so available as a potential example.) Until we again reach a point in the format where it's hyper diverse, but every deck and playstyle is represented as best it can be by every card in the format being legal. Are we as players not looking for WotC to throw us a real bone? To give us a reason to stop being so disenfranchised and excited to pick up our cards again? The Reserved List was great for Magic Boomers but us Magic Zoomers don't care about that. Legacy is dead to us thanks to the Reserved List and the tallying of popularity among formats mirrors that sentiment. All we want is to be able to play the game in the least prohibitive manner we can without having to worry about whether or not our deck is allowed to be played at next week's FNM.
    If you've read this far: WOW! Thanks for absorbing my thoughts! I'd LOVE to know what you think! Maybe this is a disscussion for the Goldfish crew to have? Maybe it's a dizzy daydream to think we're all mature enough to handle a fast paced nu-Modern where everything is legal to some extent (and it may not be such a bad idea to add Force of Will to the format at this point, either.) But it seems to me we're running in circles chasing a long gone dizzy daydream of a format by continuing down this path of rotating the format with every Modern Horizons set, breaking the format, banning "the problem(tm)" rinsing and repeating. I dont think Modern cares to be what it was in its premature phases anymore. It's almost graduated High School, at this point. I feel like it's time for it (and the game) to mature and handle the power creep instead of fearfully sealing it all away like it's Exodia or something (cheeky Yu-Gi-OH! reference here!)

    Always fun to watch some storm! I did, however, almost skip the video because the thumbnail wasn’t immediately recognizable as a Goldfish video.

    Would it be cool if WOTC made an leyline anthem as a counter play to bow masters to enable dork strategies again? It wouldn't be toi busted would it? Or just not playable?

  • @mageius
    @mageius 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I love how people keep complaining about the storm deck being too broken. I mean it's not busted, but it is very powerful which is something that just makes it a good fit for the format.

      @TheEvolver311 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's because people say they want change and to shake up the format but anytime anything new forces anyone to reconsider anything about their deck; the formats ruined etc...

    • @mageius
      @mageius 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TheEvolver311 Yeah, I know. Storm is just one of those decks that if you enjoy it you enjoy it and if you don't you don't. I personally love the fact it got more love as it really can be an actual good budget-friendly deck sometimes. Yes I'm aware normally isn't sometimes, but when it is budget-friendly a lot of people do tend to like it.

    Would be funny if this new storm deck got hit with a ban instead of anything from nadu. That would be nostalgic, wotc standing on storms neck
    Also that b/w titan a chatter pitched around the 30min mark is broken, if it has the usual titan sac clause it goes infinite with itself
