    I got a hydroponic unit in June (Naimp from Amazon). Very similar to the Aerogarden but for under £50 (approx $60). I have a Chilli Pepper plant in mine that literally took off. Planted the seed on the 12th June and it was touching the light which I had raised twice. Pruned it back tonight. It amazes me how quickly things grow in these units. I have in mine the Chilli, a Basil plant which is huge but I've been using the leaves already, a Dill - also using the leaves, a lettuce which wants to take over the whole thing. Good job it's warm here in the UK just now - salad's on the menu tonight. Got rocket which is coming along nicely, spinach which I started off by soaking the seeds for 2 days then putting them between wet kitchen roll and in a ziplock bag. Three seeds germinated so they're now in the unit. Other seeds are germinating so I'll probably do them the traditional way in pots. I have a greenhouse too. I also have chives, a rosemary and two cherry tomatoes. I'm also germinating cilantro the same way as the spinach but they're slower in germinating although two seeds are showing signs so far. This has been so successful (my first attempt at hydroponics) I'm going to get a second and possibly third unit. Having fresh veg and herbs all year round is really great. The third unit I plan to grow only strawberries in but not from seed. For anyone that loves cooking I really recommend getting a hydroponic unit. I'm loving mine. Subscribed.

    Thank you for showing how you prune/trim your pepper plants. I would never imagine taking that much off as it seems wasteful, but it makes sense once you explained and showed the result weeks later. As always, useful and informative stuff you put out!

    I just can't justify spending $300 on a small aerogarden unit (and this is for basic?!)
    I mean a 2x4x6 tent can be had at $70, a couple of shop lights for $20 each, and a 5 gallon bucket for $3.
    Why spend premium for something that can be done more cost efficient with possibility to upgrade (better light, resovoir tank, etc.)
    Am I missing out here?

      Khang's been doing hydroponics for years so he's experimented with a lot of stuff and has all kinds of equipment/tools accumulated over the years. He has at least two grow tents and probably 2 Aerogarden units. There was one unit he had that he's not shown in a while that looked really cool but I forget the brand. It's large and white with lots of places for growing hydroponically. That unit must have cost him a pretty penny. LOL

      @@doodahgurlie Okay but there's nothing about it that makes it worth the money. You can make something like that out of a Rubbermaid tote for next to nothing. The Aerogardens are ripoffs, and needlessly limiting.

      @@rocketamadeus3730 You have to realise that for working people, time is worth money. I value my time (since I could simply be making money) a lot, and buying a ready to use all in one unit like these saves me a lot of hours of shopping around for grow lights/parts/tools I don't already own/stand and all that is needed to make my own. It also saves me all the time required to build it. Finally, I do value the look of the unit a lot and the aerogarden looks sharp, contrary to a normal grow light with a plastic bin. For me, growing/crossing peppers is a hobby.
      BTW, a decent growlight, a timer for the light and a good pump with a filter (like the aerogarden has) is definitly cheaper than the aerogarden unit, but not by a long shot. Considering the units are often 50% on amazon, too, it's a great investment considering how many hours I saved. Considering how much money my time is worth, the hundred buck more I had to pay compared to building one (at most a 100$) is totally worth it.

      No you need hydroponic nutrients. Concentration of miracle grow for soil is kuch more concentrated. You can burn your hydroponic plants. And the mix is less complete (inadequate nutrient ratio/coverage.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because when they are small, they don't drink much. If you put too much, they will never drink it all up, you'll just be wasting nutrients when you change it out in 3-4 weeks.

    Can’t believe your almost out of white Thai! Ive got my first ones growing atm! It’s only about 5-7 peppers and need them to ripen to send seeds out to folk but so can’t wait to try them!!!
    When would you say is best to pick them for seeds Khang? Just wanted to be sure. I’ve got a KSLS going to but it’s about the size of the one u just put in the areogarden so it’ll be a while lol doesn’t help the areogardens light is higher coz I’ve got a a chilli plant and couple tomatoes waiting to go out in it lol

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're picking for seeds, let the peppers turn red and get wrinkly. You can also harvest them as soon as they turn red, then leave them to dry at room temperature for a few days, then get seeds out. As long as you don't pick them white, the seeds should be good.

      Leggy usually is an indication of lack of light. So we're on the same page, we're discussing leggy stem syndrome: The fix is to keep light fixture 3-4 in. away from new sprouts and move up gradually as it grows. Sorry, disregard if you're talking about something else!
