    This is the breathtaking story of Daniel Tammet. A twenty-something with extraordinary mental abilities, Daniel is one of the world's few savants. He can do calculations to 100 decimal places in his head, and learn a language in a week.
    He also meets the world's most famous savant, the man who inspired Dustin Hoffman's character in the Oscar winning film 'Rain Man'
    This documentary follows Daniel as he travels to America to meet the scientists who are convinced he may hold the key to unlocking similar abilities in everyone.

    Hey! I wanted to make a comment for time stamps I've created just in case some people need them! (it is not finished yet)
    0:00 - 0:28 ~ Intro
    0:28 - 1:18 ~ Hook (to get you intrigued)
    1:19 - 9:12 ~ About Daniel
    3:45 - 4:15 ~ describing synergistic (not entirely defining yet it though I don't think)
    3:28 - 8:06 ~ PI to the 22,500th place
    8:22 - 9:12 ~ Daniel's Childhood (more later)
    9:24 - 10:24 Orlando Serrell, date and weather (name might be spelled wrong)
    10:25 - 15:45 maybe??? ~ Savants & Autism (and more about Daniel's childhood) *[Also, I'd like to point out; they make it sound like Daniel doesn't have autism; Daniel does have autism/Asperger's he is just high functioning/good at masking/good at acting neurotical]*
    Again, it's not done yet and I might not get back to this. Sorry for anyone who wanted all the timestamps. Feel free to add more time stamps in the replies!

    One of many things I thought of midway in the video were, I wonder if Einstein, Newton, Galileo, Archimedes, Tesla, Leonardo, Bohr etc. were similar in some ways to this individual. (Functioning savants ) From memory I recall mention in books and documentaries many of them displayed odd or quirky behavior for their periodizations.

  • @tsukizue
    @tsukizue 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The documentary is a bit disappointing, as it errs a lot on the side "oh this guy is awesome" but doesn't make much effort to explain his mental abilities. Also what about problem solving skills and abstract reasoning? Many PETs are shown in the video but no comment is done about them. So there are a lot of unanswered questions, but trying to answer them was evidently not the point of the documentary.

    I am impressed not with his abilities but with the stratling evidence that Tammett has apparently no interest on doing anything original or creative with these talents. Real genius involves doing original work and there is nothing about this in this video, neither in the other cases shown in the video. Einstein, Beethoven, Picasso were geniuses. This word should be used with care.

      Interesting, your comment. I was thinking while watching the clip, to what purpose does his skill benefit himself or mankind. A computer can calculate Pi out to 30 digits, future computers may take it to 100, and a computer does it in milliseconds, but who needs more and who needs him to do it. Taking Pi out to 22k places is essentially useless. Perhaps I'm thinking too limited, but his fascinating ability is not much more than entertaining.

    • @The1stPurpleCat
      @The1stPurpleCat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well kinda? Some thoughts I can "hear" other thoughts I just think of and it feels like its not one f the 5 senses, especially if it's subconscious thoughts. (I'm not a savant btw)
      As for the guy in the video, he might hear bubble rap popping and reed the color red when he thinks of the number 5. As they explained, this is synesthisa; connecting unrelated things by your 5 main scenes. I say "5 main scenes" cause humans have a lot more then 5 (for example, our 6th scenes is balance and awareness; if I asked you to close your eyes and then tough your nose, you can do that because your 6th scene told you where your nose was even though you couldn't feel, see, hear, taste, or smell it)
      Also, fun fact: 70% of humans have a mild form of synestisia. What color is the sound 'a' as in apple? (mine's dandelion yellow or apple red) What about 'e' as in me? (mine's dark green or spring green) 70% of people will have an answer. Most of the time this wont actually help us but still. More info here:
      www.iflscience.com/brain/it-turns-out-most-of-us-have-this-mild-form-of-synesthesia/
