the Italian setting, Goblin score, sinuous camerawork, great mystery and lots over the top gore….This is in my top 10 Argento for sure. Very underrated.
After years of avoiding post-Opera Argento, I recently decided to work my way through his 90s and 2000s output. Sleepless took me by surprise. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Without a doubt the greatest homeless puppet dwarf hoax father-son coverup asthma serial killer movie ever made!
Sleepless is such such a unique film. Very well made and the acting is fantastic. It’s always nice to see filmmakers going back to their roots every now and then, but I get wanting to see some more variety when it comes to some filmmakers. I’d love to find that digibook somewhere if there’s one available at a decent price. It looks like it would be a good edition to own.
Yes, this is a good film. there are so many other things I forgot to say about this film, but there is much greatness here. The digibook is limited, but if you can find it at a decent price I would recommend it.
Thank you for the nostalgia trip. Having already seen Suspiria when I was like 14, I randomly discovered this film in a small town DVD rental store and fhe director's name rang a bell. I forgot most of the plot details, but what always stuxk with me was the nursery rhyme, the main theme by Goblin, and... That. Opening. Sequence. Your criticisms for that are valid in retrospect, but it completely blew me away, and 20 years later, I still consider it as one of the most memorable and bad ass movie openings. In fact, I wanted to come up with examples to compare it to, but I cant really think of anything right now
Hello and wow thank you for this comment. I made this video a few years ago now so it’s an older one, but I am still a fan of Argento films including this one. And I too have always been struck by the elements you mention, in particular the use of the rhyme and the musical score. Thank you for this great comment!!!
I just got around to watching Sleepless and Inferno. I really enjoyed the first 30-40 minutes of Inferno, but it really went downhill after that (at least for me). Sleepless on the other hand was quite the surprise. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. I feel like if Argento had made the exact same movie in 1979, it would be held in much higher regard.
Thank you Patrick! You may have something there: this film might be held in even higher regard if it were made in the 70s. I think this is indicative of how much of the 70s hallmarks it has in it, which I think is great. And thank you also for sharing your thoughts on Inferno as well! Thank you so much my friend.
Hello, and thank you so much for such a kind comment! It is a pleasure to hear from you. What is more, I am SOOOO JEALOUS!!!!! You saw Non ho sonno in the theatre??!!!!! Wow!!!! Amazing! What did you think of it when you saw it? Also, if you don't mind, if you have a free moment, I would love to hear about what kinds of films you like! No hurry of course! Best regards from Tokyo.
Sleepless had me having nightmares as much as Pearl movie for a while when I saw it, by the way I'm a huge fan of Argento's films especially, from the movie The Mother of Tears, starring his daughter Asia. I hope you had seen it as well.
Good film! A bit slow in the middle, but Max von Sydow really put on a performance. So he alone made the film for me. I rather enjoyed this one. And yes, a few spots were shockingly graphic. Argento always has a trick or two up his sleeve! Hope you're well, Daisuke!
Where did you find a copy of the UNCUT Blu Ray if you dont mind me asking? I have been trying to track this one down for a long time. I have look everywhere Ebay, Amazon, other websites, etc. Any help from anyone would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!
Justin Letwinsky hello! So I got this off of eBay maybe about a few months ago. I was looking for this limited edition and I was fortunate enough to come across it. I am not sure about how often it turns up on eBay, but it might turn up again. Good luck with your hunt my friend.
@@justinletwinsky The version I got is cut so am keeping my old DVD as well. I think it is a case of having patience. Mine's was so cheap on amazon it was worth it.
@@justinletwinsky I found this on ebay. Its for four argento films and is a bidding situation. It may interest you. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HARDBOX-COLLECTION-LIMITED-PIECES-SUPER-RARE-BLURAY-ARGENTO-INC-LTD-33-NEW/173733899215?hash=item287358ebcf:g:kT4AAOSwpTBcJV48:rk:26:pf:0

there is a new bluray on horizon for this from Scorpion, due out soon, new scan apparently limited to 1500 copies!
What a coincidence as I too just heard about this news when I was browsing through bluray.com! Fantastic.
I remember watching this film at the movie theatre in Italy when it came out! Very nice channel 👍🏼

Thank you so much for continuing this Argento journey with me! I understand your comment totally, especially about the pacing and the performances.
Well I just bought this film on German bluray (have had it for years on dvd) thanks for being a bad influence. haha
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the film. Your take on Argento's films is always very interesting, my friend.
