The trick to playing against mill is simply to enter a zen state and accept that the cards milled were not cards you were going to see anyway, by pretending they were on the bottom of your deck
That's a cope way to put it considering you were literally going to see the card on your next draw Also mill is way too effective as a resource remover Oh a card that can't be countered? Too bad it goes straight to grave Oh a card that has hexproof? Cool to the grave Etc It completely bypasses protection on cards through very little effort
This is the way. Unless you can use them from your graveyard it really doesnt matter. Sometimes i think people would accept mill more if they were always removed but facedown.
I am Also curious how many lands you had in there. I feel like I have seen you play this deck on other channels with the same issue. I also do not like to cut cool cards for lands but I also like to play magic lol.
I once met Brian “Dragon Master “ Kibler and Oliva “BOATS” at a fancy high end restaurant as their waiter. After they both had combined 2 14 oz steaks 3 lobster tails 8 glasses of wine 3 appetizers 2 ice cream sundaes and 4 sides of celery and other assorted vegetables I brought them their check. Brian whipped out a mastercard credit card designed like The Ur-Dragon and Olivia a stack of magic cards . I told them how big of a fan I was and how I to love Green stompy and Kibbler and Olivia without missing a beat handed me a Vornclix and a signed Great Hinge . I didn’t ask for this but graciously accepted . That is the lie I will tell my child instead of saying I spent close to 100 bucks on 2 cards . Morale of the story I could save cash had I used the sponsor of the show
I took my decks to teach some friends how to play Commander the other day. THey're all cased in GameGenic deck boxes, they were so impressed they're going to look to stock them at the toy stores she works at. So that's neat.
Absolutely love the thought of the mana dorks hitting the gym pumping iron and going back to their frat house chanting bro as Tyvar snorts protein 😆 loving Aims's frat house themed decks
If you don't play the game to see all the pretty cards then why are you even doing it XD And your graveyards is so in the open, you can peek at the pretty cards all you want
I was in a game against Captain Ngathrod & Saruman at once - I was milled down to about 15 cards. When I resolved the hard-cast Eerie Ultimatum I had in my hand since game-start, everyone just conceded. Simply a spectacular answer to mill in Commander.
I don't get the mill hate from anyone who has played magic for as long as these players have. I think every deck I play has more recursion than it has tutors (which I don't think is at all uncommon, especially outside of cEDH), so generally speaking, the more you mill me, the more cards you've giving me access to. Plus even without recursion, you're effectively just getting different cards, not losing cards you already had access to. It's not like discard (or any real removal) where it's actually impacting your current plays. And if someone can actually pull off a mill win? More power to them; it's so uncommon to see that there's no way I'd be mad. Your deck did its (difficult to do) thing! That's awesome! Do people just not play recursion? Or is it really that the emotional reaction to seeing something they wanted in their graveyard is so strong that logic is irrelevant? (Side note: If it's just content creators leaning into the emotions for content purposes, that's fine. But I've seen mill hate enough IRL from long-time magic players to still have the same questions.)
Well, she did explain it. Because she was able to see what was getting milled next time it was aggravating. Also a player may have 1 valuable card they never get to play, the one time it is there in the first 3 turns and they have the correct mana, it goes in the graveyard. But it is why my preferred way of "mill" is make everyone draw and then discard cards.
Clearly never played a game where you are missing just 1 color or 1 more land to play whats in your hand and you see it milled. You draw and it’s another useless card you can’t play.
@@jaysnow701 Exactly! I was in a pod not too long ago. One of my opponents played Boros and nearly every red source and mountain he had was milled by his friend playing Phenax. Thankfully I was playing a friendly Jon Irenicus and gave him lots of 4/4 unblockables otherwise he would have just sat there saying “I draw. I pass” Edit: Its just telling why people hate mill when my game was over a year ago. I played 1 game with these people. I remember my opponents faces, I remember everybody’s decks except for my opponent who played boros. I can’t begin to describe who their commander was or what their strategy was because they never got to play it.
Last time I was at Vidiots, they played their new intro video and I saw Ify Nwadiwe in there and did the whole Leo DiCaprio TV Dinner meme pointing at the screen and telling my friends I've seen him play magic. They weren't as excited as I was. Thank you Ify for being a founding member. Freakin love Vidiots.
For adding Lifelink to your Omnath deck, though she does have a generic mana in the cost, Dihada, Binder of Wills is a 3 pip'd planeswalker with a +2 to add lifelink to a legendary creature. There's also Jeskai Charm, Titanic Ultimatum, and March of the Multitudes that would fit your deckbuilding restrictions that give you lifelink in various ways.
I enjoyed the episode and I gotta say I appreciate your release schedule. I LOVE watching commander game play videos like this and your production quality, personalities, all that are great.
it was awesome meeting both of you at scgcon Atlanta. sometimes you meet people and they are nothing like what you see on social media but both of you are just as funny, kind and friendly in person as you are in your videos!!!
This is the second time I have seen Ify play this deck. And this is the second time I have seen him keep a one land hand with a Jet Medallion, proceed to say "this is fine," and then do effectively nothing the entire game allowing another player to get out of control.
In this episode of "We are NOT letting our guest play..." hahaha fun episode, but sucks that Aims got everything destroyed every time and Ify just keps getting attacked
I, as a mill player, have learned that "Death by 1,000 cuts"-style mill (aka MANY instances of mill) attracts more attention then larger chunk mill (ie: Fractured Sanity, Maddening Cacophony (non-kicked), ...).
I hope you read this. First of all, you guys have such amazing gameplay and got me back into commander! Second of all, I wish I could use your sponsor link after a year, since I bought a new construction home and really want to use factor in a year, once mu house is built! I hope factor will continue to sponsor you, so that I can also sponsor you through the sponsor link!
IFY WHEN WILL YOU LEARN TO NOT KEEP A 1 LAND HAND!! This happened on Critical roles channel too with the SAME DECK Side note, thank you editing and crew for pointing out Ify missed triggers and failure to read the cards, he is very bad at that.
I discovered Altar of the Brood when building my Necrobloom deck. Having that out when I drop an average of 3 lands per turn, generating at least three creatures per turn, is quite fun for the all of the 2-3 turns I am alive afterwards xD
I for one, LOVE mill. It's my favorite alternate win con. I especially love sneaky mill, like, for example, the 3 card combo of panharmonicon, rite of replication, and Sphinx Mindbreaker. The first two are just good in the deck, but if you get that sphinx suddenly you can mill each opponent for 100 cards out of nowhere, which I think is hilarious.
It's so funny seeing the evolution of Ify's rat deck lol I'm not sure if this was the same deck from the Matt Mercer game but changing the theme to mill rats is perfect 🤌
Correct me if I'm wrong - Ify's Force of Despair could not be cast at the time he cast it since he didn't have priority. If he indeed did want to cast it in response to Tyvar, it wouldn't have hit anything. Since Tyvar doesn't have an ETB, he couldn't have cast it in response to Tyvar hitting the field. If they wanted to change the timing to help him out, it would have had to be in response to another action, like moving to combat (which is seemingly what happened, but could be confusing since they didn't call that out) or a creature getting counters from Tyvar.
Ify, as a fellow mill player, I understand the unnecessary hate we get. Here we are, helping people get further into their decks and play cards they normally would never get to reach and yet they shun us for our kindness. At least we aren't like those disgusting discard players who let us draw our cards before forcing us to choose which is our least favorite child.
for lifelink that falls into only pips and no colorless, you can try hopeful eidolon, divinity of pride, jeskai charm (though you probably already have that since you play charms), titanic ultimatum, vizkopa guildmage. of those id suggent either the Vizkopa Guildmage, or hopeful eidolon.
For Brian's life gain in his deck: Lifelink, Stream of Life, and Sphinx's Revelations. Those should help; they're in the color identity and have only X for colorless costs if they have colorless at all.
As a mill player I simply accept that I don’t win by being the last player alive, I win with the moral victory of everyone needing me to die quickly LOL
My distaste for mill comes more from whenever the mill player is losing and and they ask if we have an answer to save them. I dunno, maybe if you didn't mill the one thing that I could do to save you then maybe I'd lend a hand. 😅
Two notes (mostly for the algorithm) 1) Elie wasn't great at drawing cards because she was happy and loved, why would she want change? 2) 42 is THE answer, to life, the universe and everything, including Olivia's life total at some points. 🤓

It’s because of the “my cards are in my deck to be played” mentality that I play The Master (Fallout) mill. Your creatures are still being played, they just play for a different team :3
with this colors you can have Piru , the volatile use it as a world wipe , so you can deal demage to every Creature in the field and gain +7 HP for each one
You do the factor sponsor One Week after I order it. You know what, I curse your next game with opponents who only brings a rakdos deck just to annoy you😂. I enjoy the show and the work y’all do. Happy 2025.
As far as lifelink with the restrictions you have set (and assuming it must be at least 3 colored pips), I am coming up with the following*: *All picks I'd disregard are in a comment below this one; also the decklist isn't published yet, so these suggestions are based on the list from the last time you played it. The Atraxa you're already running Chromanticore, do it, you know you want to
These ones absolutely don't make the cut: Feather Radiant Arbiter, but I'm counting 4 cards that you could copy in total so probably not worth it... Kellan the Kid, but I'm only seeing villainous wealth and yidris as things that will trigger him... Rhox War Monk, just a 3/4 lifelink for bant, not exciting or anything... Shanna, Purifying Blade, but you'd need waaaay more life gain for that to be worth it... Sigurd, Jarl of Ravensthrope but you notably have no sagas... Sydri, Galvanic Genius, but you have no artifacts... Windwright Mage but your deck contains exactly 0 artifacts... Zur Eternal Schemer but you don't have enough enchantments to even consider him...
If we open up options to cards with fewer than 3 colored pips, the following options open up*: *Again, commenting the one's I wouldn't consider below Arcus Acolyte, which I don't think you have the counter synergies to pull off, but I could be wrong. Azorius Charm, worst case scenario it draws you a card. Staggering Insight, not super good, but lifelink and card draw is never bad Tithe Drinker I could see being incredibly good. The worst case scenario it's a 2/1 lifelink, best case scenario it's gaining you a dozen life or so before it leaves the board. Vizkopa Guildmage could work, but I'm not sure how you feel about the generic cost in its abilities
These ones absolutely don't make the cut: Civil Servant, which is garbage in this deck... Contraband Kingpin, same problem as the Windwright Mage... Dennick Pious Apprentice/Apparition, which is good grave hate but not much else... Emmara, Soul of the Accord, but I don't seen enough tap outlets for you to make much use when you don't have a board state... Gold-Forged Thopteryx, not terrible, but not particularly interesting either... Hungry for More, I don't know if the restriction applies to flashback too, but either way it's not that useful here... Jukai Naturalist, but none of your enchantments would be affected... Killian, Ink Duelist, but none of your spells would be affected... Nip Gwyllion, LOL not much value there... Riddle Gate Gargoyle, but you would only be able to get lifelink 1 time... Rory Williams, I don't see any real synergy with this one, but it is a 3/3 for 2 with a 3 turn layaway. Woohoo?... Seraphic Steed, doable I think, but it is still squishy enough that it mostly won't live through attacks... Snooping Newsie, but I'm not sure you have enough variety in your mana values to reliably get the lifelink... Venser, Corpse Puppet doesn't really have anything in this deck going for it...
I'm sorry, Ify hitting us with Unleash The Dragon in this, the year 2025? Dude, I already love basically all that you do. How do you keep being awesome? Lol

I learned this way from Crim 🤣
The better way is to run things like Muldrotha, and just thank them :)
😂yeah that or just throw in Kozilek so you can never be milled
Since shooting this episode I have learned that I have not put enough lands in this deck!
I see we have the same TH-cam recommendations. 😂
How many did you have 😂
Did you get mana screwed with that same deck playing against Matt Mercer?
I am Also curious how many lands you had in there. I feel like I have seen you play this deck on other channels with the same issue. I also do not like to cut cool cards for lands but I also like to play magic lol.

I'm a fan of Ify's famous 2 land rat deck... pretty good 👍
Lol. Haven't watched yet but I hope it does something this time
“Infamous 2 land rat deck” 😂
I love watching Aims learn more about the game and see the lightbulb go off. So much fun!

Mill is fine guys, think of all the cards you got to see that you wouldn't have otherwise!
I couldn’t agree more with you, bud
Especially if the mill player gets to use them against you. The joy of experiencing your own deck from the other side 😅

May your opponents play lord of pain while you play life gain!
also my favorite altar of the brood card is undead alchemist because it has combo potential just entering the battlefield with both out.
I’ve seen IFY blow so many games by taking hands without enough lands
13:17 he even read it out loooooud
As far as lifelink with the restrictions you have set (and assuming it must be at least 3 colored pips), I am coming up with the following*:
*All picks I'd disregard are in a comment below this one; also the decklist isn't published yet, so these suggestions are based on the list from the last time you played it.
The Atraxa you're already running
Chromanticore, do it, you know you want to
These ones absolutely don't make the cut:
Feather Radiant Arbiter, but I'm counting 4 cards that you could copy in total so probably not worth it...
If we open up options to cards with fewer than 3 colored pips, the following options open up*:
*Again, commenting the one's I wouldn't consider below
Arcus Acolyte, which I don't think you have the counter synergies to pull off, but I could be wrong.
Azorius Charm, worst case scenario it draws you a card.
Staggering Insight, not super good, but lifelink and card draw is never bad
Tithe Drinker I could see being incredibly good. The worst case scenario it's a 2/1 lifelink, best case scenario it's gaining you a dozen life or so before it leaves the board.
Vizkopa Guildmage could work, but I'm not sure how you feel about the generic cost in its abilities
These ones absolutely don't make the cut:
Civil Servant, which is garbage in this deck...
Lol
11:12 a wild CGB appears
48:25 Hey Eilidh nice edit
59:37 Eilidh that was you??
Yes, we're watching the games in the living room 😁
I didn’t know it was possible to love Ellie even more 🥰
Did Brian get a Riku trigger off Crackling Doom? Doesn't seem like a modal spell...
Yeah I realized that in my review watch of the game. Oops :p
