I have the Tyco Midnight Special, and watching this taught me some things! And if most Tyco engines are similar inside, then i might have to take a look at my twin Silver Streaks and my Illinois Central engines.
With one of my Tyco locos I had to make it a dummy (VERY VERY AGONIZING) mostly because it threw out a super small very important gear that made it actually move so I took the motor out and made it a dummy YAY and so I'm taking the parts and using them on another engine same model and everything just over lubed motor.
You sure put a lot of work into those old tycos! Try restoring one of the AHM/Rivarossi unit’s with the round motor drive. Super easy and nice to work with. P.S. GET A HUDSON THEYRE AMAZING.
I do the same thing, but never sold any. As of tomorrow I'll have 136. Engines and have also coming a Harry Potter loco to finish off the set I have. Plus an Amtrak street car.
That secondary pin off the motor has the tendency to break off. Plus I need to get some replacement gears for the motor shaft. Any ideas where to find them. Or fix it?
Hey dude I just subscribed and I want you to know that’s u got some nice vids and model trains I’m a collector myself hey video request should get u a lot of views do a full model train collection video showing all of ur trains oh and one more thing u need to get some steam locos there pretty cool
Nice job. I’m going to attempt to restore Tycos from my childhood. Ca. 1970-1980. Could you please list your preferred brands of electric and non-electric lubes used? Thx!
XL model lubricants, or labelle oil should work well for that application. Don't use grease as these locos only have no worm gears that require high viscosity lubricants, maybe use labelle 103-4 oil for old tyco locomotives.
SMT Mainline, yep! The squeal -Especially one way vs the other. Can’t remember which way now. Im out at Home Depot to get CRC 2-26 to clean the tracks. Trying to figure out where I can get Labelle oil locally- probably will have to get from amazon. Also took apart the Silver Streak earlier but can’t figure out where to put the leads from the transformer to test it? PS I don’t know why this post has strike through on it.
Not bad on the repairs but the video itself needs work. Never really showed much, no shots inside of the motors. Perhaps simply repositioning the camera to give us the same view that you have would be better.

Ever think of selling these for a profit? Buy broken locos and sell them working? You can start your college fund. -Mark

My Sharknose is in need of some resoldering to the motor contacts, the wires came undone like yous and they need to be reattached in the future
Cool to see it run

SMT Mainline, thanks for your reply! I have one of my dad’s shifters and my Silver Streak to tackle.
SMT Mainline, good news - got out the ‘72 tyco SF 0-4-0 Shifter #99 and the motor works!!
@@mattkaustickomments Fantastic, is it making any weird noises?

great video dad
Awsome bro!
Do u have any tyco C430's?
I have the tyco 1991 Chattanooga train set
That's a nice loco!!
I definitely don't want one now lol
any one know where to buy new brush springs for a tyco power torque
I think that 'tiny' gear is called a pinion.
U should make a train junk yead on your layout
I think I'm outta room.
Mine is only a shell lol. And I sold it to a train store miles away lol
How much was the shell worth?
Good video
I know I already commend on this but you should but music in the background
Probably
P.S. check your Facebook, there’s a FR from me there.
