As an lnvesting enthusiast, I often wonder how top level investors are able to become millionaires off investing. . I’ve been sitting on over $545K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here, is it a good time to buy into stocks or do I wait for another opportunity?
I think the safest strategy is to diversify investments. Like spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown.
A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.

I’d say at this point, you gotta have cash on the side and exposure so that you don’t completely fumble during bearish times, just to come out with nothing but buying bags too high later on. Not a financial advisor, just my two cents of advice.

For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $130k in passive diversified safe-haven assets, Up 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.
I've been in the red for the past couple months, lost 12k last week alone. Indubitably I've got good companies but profit is still stalling, how did you go around finding an advisor? I wouldn't mind looking yours up.

Hi Bryan, congrats on these achievements. I've recently started investing and was curious about when I try buying a home in 3-4 years (I don't plan on selling any of my investments) but I want to have as little of a mortgage as possible. What's a good balance to ensure I keep my shares but have as little of a mortgage to pay off?

I have (I think) settled on my ETFs. 70/30 split on IVV and IOZ. Possibly add an EM ETF if I find one I like but otherwise I'll just stick to those 2. Looking to put in between $10-$12k over the year.
Also looking to add a bit more to the cash reserves this year. I have an AMP savers account getting 5.4%. Keep my cash reserves and emergency funds in there.
I then have an old classic car that is worth between $40-$50k that I will likely sell and the proceeds as well as any left over cash I have will go to paying down my investment property, as my personal mortgage has another 3 years at a very low rate.

Maybe consider leaving money in offset instead of a savings account if the rate is around the same. Or can look to debt recycle if your loans are structured correctly. Good point. It is variable. Low 6% at present. Currently have an offset on my personal mortgage but should probably swing it to the investment mortgage given the rate difference

Been watching your videos for a few weeks and learned a lot. Thanks so much :) Two questions: 1. What's the point of investing 30% in Australian ETFs, when US ETFs have had a much bigger return over the last 10 years? 2. I've seen quite a few invetsers (mainly US-based) advise buying bonds in addition to ETFS (a 40 to 60 ratio is common), so in case of a market crash, the bonds can be soled and the money used to buy cheap ETFs. What's your take on this? Thanks again 🙂

1. Just some extra diversification. While I think the US will continue to dominate, it is not guaranteed. All it takes is one black swan event to occur in the US to derail them. I also believe in the Australian economy which has performed almost as well as the US market in the last 30 years.
2. Bonds are safer so it may be appropriate to consider them if you're closer to retirement age. As you grow older, you could choose to slowly increase your bond allocation and decrease your stock allocation. Personally, I don't bother with bonds at my age but I am a bit more risk averse than some. It's up to you whether you want a safety net or if you are a bit older.

🎯🎯🎯 G'day Bryan. Happy new year to you, and congratulations on the bub. Once again I'm gonna disagree with you about crypto, but that's just because I'm an old stick-in-the-mud. Right now I'm investigating ETFs and public companies which pay monthly dividends; so I think that's my **target** for 2024 - try to get a bit of passive cashflow happening. As far as real estate goes, there are a few REIT ETFs which are generating good returns. All the best for '24, mate.

Thank you, Pratik! 👊 ETFs are generally seen as long term investments so timing the right price to buy isn’t really worth it. Time frame is usually 10-30 years.
