  • Capturing Spirit; An Inuit Journey is a dramatic portrayal of the life challenges facing Inuit youth today.
    The 70-minute film follows the lives of two character as they become young adults. It chronicles the everyday struggles, challenges and successes they face growing up in a small Arctic town. Lead characters Ben Watt and Evie Mark must grapple with family strife, physical and alcohol abuse, suicide and clashing cultures as they grow up. Dramatic vignettes highlight events and choices in their lives from birth to adulthood.
    The wisdom of the past is presented by a talking Inukshuk and Arctic Tern Using imaginative special effects and 3D animation, these characters provide a counterpoint to the live action sequences.
    Produced for the Makivik Corporation, the film was directed by Albert Nerenberg based on a script by Sheila Watt Cloutier, Tarqralik Partridge and Bob Mesher.
    The film was shot in Kuujjuaq in northern Quebec and had a cast of almost 50 actors from the local community.

    It's not that the dogs were loose the new settlers came in and started trading alcohol and it affected the community of a non-violent community. It astonishes me that to this day my Northerners don't feel safe around the police. Who shot down our dogs and I am Laura Nungaq and I've been told, Son Panik.

    Thank you for uploading this eye-opening documentary to TH-cam. I was just reading Sheila Watt-Cloutier's book "The Right to be Cold" in which she refers to this documentary.

    What a beautiful movie with so many good messages. I hope every inuit kid gets a chance to reconnect with as much of their culture as they possibly can. The arctic people traditionally value kindness and a sense of balance and fairness not found in western society.

    Even when I was so young watching this I would get emotional and To this Day I always Tear up at some scenes and how touching it is and I was born in 1997 hahah

    Extremely well made film...Touched home in so many ways...so emotional...The wise words on spirit, fear etc. deserves contemplation on deeper level. Soo happy I found this film. Meegwetch
