A look back - 20 years since the first Ivakkak race
มุมมอง 9353 ปีที่แล้ว
It’s been 20 years since the first edition of Ivakkak was held. March 28, 2001, was a special day in Umiujaq, a day where mushers from across Nunavik would gather and prepare to depart on an event that would become a Nunavik tradition. With the departure of the first teams only seconds away, the late Robbie Tookalook, Umiujaq mayor and Makivik board member at the time, could be seen waving his ...

According to approximately 200 reports made by Nunavik Inuit, a series of dog slaughters were undertaken or ordered to be undertaken by Canada and Quebec government officials or their representatives in several Nunavik communities from the mid-1950s until the late 1960s. Government officials and their representatives did not hold effective consultation with Nunavik Inuit, nor seek nor obtain th...

    Great documentary. Has a owner of an Quimmiq (Canadian Inuit Dog) I know how kind and loving this breed of dog is. This killing was one of the worst thing that the Canadian government did and should have never happened. As a Canadian I was unaware of all this until I got my own Quimmiq (Canadian Inuit Dog) name Atal, I was shocked that I did not learn about this in school. I am glad that this breed is still alive and there numbers are slowly getting higher and that my own dog Atla will be part of a breading program to keep this gear dog breed alive. We need to learn from this tragedy and be better humans.

      Watching this from Greenland. We were not that unlucky here, our government actually protected our traditional lifestyle, although it was not perfect, the Danish government treated us much better Canadian inuit were treated. I, for now, has nothing much to say, but I can relate to the dog issue. I myself is a dog owner ( Greenland sleddogs) and if possible and/or wanted I'd gladly help out with dogs for breeding purpose. We have "pure bred" sleddogs because of the fact that, it is not allowed to have other dog breeds in northern Greenland, and that the Danish government didn't act like the Canadian. This to make sure that our sleddogs do not get interbred with "European" dogs which would weaken their abilities to survive and thrive in the arctic. Greetings from Greenland.

    This was another attempt by the Cabal to destroy the lives of Indigenous People. It was said the RCMP destroyed between 1,200 - 20,000 dogs between 1950 - 1970. The same tactic was used in the US when they slaughtered the Bison to near extinction during the 1800's in order to starve the Natives to death. They slaughtered about 30 million bison. The slogan they used was "Kill every buffalo you can. Every buffalo dead is an Indian gone". Same tactic here. Slaughter the dogs and the Inuit starve or lose their way of life to be controlled.

    I watched a good video on TH-cam called . The last igloo. It's a recent documentary about an Inuit who continues to hunt in the traditional way, the sad thing is hes one of the last of his kind. What the authorities did when they killed the Inuits dog's was the next best thing to genocide..they must have sat down and thought how can we destroy their way of life? Utterly disgusting brutal behaviour!

  • @hughiedavies6069
    @hughiedavies6069 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How could anyone give the order to destroy their beautiful dogs and with them their livelihood and transport! Its hard to believe but the slaughter of all people of tribal societies throughout history is hard to believe. These are proud hunters with incredible skills that deserve respect and help from the government not cruel brutality and destruction of everything they hold dear. Its disgusting and disturbing.! I hope there's such a thing as karma. I wouldn't blame the Inuit for hating the white man and authorities, its disgusting cruel heartless behaviour that was meant to destroy the Inuit people who have respect for nature and people. Snowmobiles don't know where the ice is thin..dogs do !

    You, the race of Inuit will understand what the government is doing to long generational Canadians. There is a MASS INVASION and immigration of foreign races and people into Canada. Most don’t care about Canadians, and they certainly won’t care about YOU. We, real Canadians DO CARE ABOUT OUR ABORIGINAL CANADIANS AND YOUR CULTURE. The government is removing our statues, brainwashing our people, lying on the radio and TV ...because the media are PAID by our own stolen tax money to the media p...to lie to us. I’m older.. and I know better. The wise older Inuit people know better. That’s WHY there is a Foreign Invitation to remove our own long generational CANADIAN French and British culture and laws. Inuits, I’ve carefully investigated each political party. October 2019, vote MORALLY for your own culture and people. Only MAX BERNIER of The People’s Party will put a hold on immigration, the most 100,000 allowed under being carefully background checked, educated, with a financial plus to Canada only. We will return to old rules of immigration. Assimilation to CANADA is a must. A Canadian citizenship, all assimilated, any colour who wants to be real Canadians. VOTE PPC! Max Bernier for Prime Minister. Bernier will begin the cleanup of our country. I am old stock. I apologize for the stupidity and cruelty of stupid people. Today, the white race is undergoing genocide. WE , the white race, are the only ones who will stand up for you. Every single race on earth should be PROUD of their own race, in their own country. But, the brainwashing is destroying all the races on our earth.

    This is humungous wrong that needs restoration and a serious nations' apology to the Inuit and to the working sled dog.

    • @HappyTailsPetResort
      @HappyTailsPetResort 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sled dog is the oldest man & dog history spanning over 15,000 years. Similar things happened in history to the Chukchi people in Siberia whose sled dog were attacked in an effort to eradicate the Chukchi. The North American Native Indian Dog was thought to be extinct and being aided by breed enthusiasts. Recently the one-sided opinion attack by animal activists using lobbyist monies attempt to eradicate the working sled dog again through misrepresentation. We should respect the differences of all peoples and respect the unique differences of the working sled dogs breeds. It's a history needs to be honoured , respected and protected by our governments against all new forms of attack.
