This is the most beautiful video about humans survival i have ever seen, i saw it a while ago when youtube was new. Much deep respect for these people. This is more than a precious movie, it is how humans lived in the ice ages and were very kind, but rugged.

I was absorbed in watching this film. I am deeply moved by the lives of humans in the Arctic of that era. I respect the woman who smiles so brightly even though she must be tired from carrying her baby on her back all day.

First saw this Odyssey during an introductory course in Anthropology at City College in 1973, N.Y. Still amazing how much we have to learn from the so called “uncivilized” humans! Perhaps this is the moment in our Nation to reflect deeply into how commodity has spoiled our “civilized” way of life.

Brought back memories from when I was up there in the 80's and 90's. Sure we had more things to make travelling and hunting easier, but it was full-on living. Had an appetite like you wouldn't believe. And went to bed and slept right away every night. Super fit though. Igloo building is work, but great satisfaction to make a good one, with an ice window. You don't feel the outside wind at all, just hear the hiss of the snow going around it.

I lived in Alaska and my native friends told me that nobody lives in igloos, but that they were used for hunting trips. Shattered my illusion. I helped build one once but we just hollowed out a huge pile of snow that had freezing rain on the top. It was warm inside with only a candle and lots of beer and smoke.

at 14:50 a forgotten about home remedy my great grandmother remembers well. Every household had its Castor Oil bottle for digestive problems. Also used as a hot compress for aches, pains of all kinds - a very powerful antiinflammatory that is only now sold in such tiny bottles, its hardly any use to anyone. Medical schools nowadays teach that its poisonous! never heard such silliness. Suspect this has more to do with drug companies not liking any competition from something both simple and natural, used since Adam was a boy...

Ну согласно надписи щенкам сделано отдельное укрытие чтобы их взрослые собаки не съели , и сани на крыше ночью хранили чтобы собаки не съели кожаные ремешки

As fascinating as this film is, it is not a real documentary. They are not real family but people chosen by filmmaker, nanook is not father’s real name and filmmaker demanded them to use harpoon instead of rifles. Women are flaherty’s own concubines which he had a child who he never confessed. Lot of sad stuff behind beautiful footage.
