The workaround I found was to hit the FN key and hold it down and it the F(number) key that has the LCD icon with another screen icon next to it, the icon and F key varies from labtop to labtop but its normally a similar icon to a Screen with another screen next to it.
@@Dreamtogoa Normally all labtops have a shortcut key that connects to the external monitor, in my old labtop it was F5, on my current one it's F7. What you have to do is look at your F(number) keys and look for the one that says LCD in blue letters, one you find it press the Fn key and that key at the same time and it should connect to an external monitor even if your screen is dead
i have the cabels and everything but it only shows display and resolution and it only mentions the generic PnP monitor no other options and detect doesnt work what should i do also i am not that tech savvy and when i tried to work on it the laptop froze and i did a force shutdown and now the laptop screen seems stretched out and zoomed in despite what i thought would work to fix it

So your laptop probably detects other display device and turns its screen to mirror. Its a normal action Windows does. But maybe your TV settings need a change or VGA cable is broken

I plugged in my vga cables but when I try to select pc on tv it's greyed out and won't let me select that option. Help?!?
