    nice to see a channel that demonstrates how bikes (so cool) are for people and not for superheroes dressed in lycra that go beyond limits etc. nothing against, but good maintenance without super luxury. it's inspiring...

    Your videos inspired me to restore vintage bikes. I aquired 2 bikes in the past 2 weeks. Both for free. An '83 Free Spirit Greenbriar (a townie) and a '93 Mongoose Threshold. Still work in progress. Looking forward to watching all your videos. Keep it up, Bruh!

    That has come out beautifully, I'm a huge fan of GT mountain bikes too.i especially like the triple triangle design. I own 4 . I've got a 1994 GT Corrado made from Tru temper USA chromoly tubing. I got that brand new in 1993 and it was $2300.00 way back then. I weighed compete under 10 kg . I own a GT Peace 26 inch single speed made from Reynolds chromoly. And 2 GT Ricochet 26 inch aluminium mountain bikes which I'm riding every day.yep Gary Turner was a great man for founding this company. Your Outpost is awesome mate.keep her forever and enjoy 👌💪

    • @toastyrides
      @toastyrides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The seatpost and seattube get cleaned in a similar way, the seatpost is with a scotch pad and seattube is with a pipe cleaner (both with wd40, degreaser or wax and grease remover). It’s also good to make sure the top of the seattube, by the clamping portion and slot, doesn’t have any rough parts. Quite often it will need smoothing out with a file so it doesn’t damage the seatpost.
      Thanks heaps, glad you liked it! 😄🤙

    I've just unearthed my old Outpost Trail from the depths of my mum's garage. Planning on making it a load lugger / city bike. You mentioned about heel strike - do you reckon it would be possible to make a custom / modified rack that was a bit further back? Or too much risk of pulling wheelies all the time? I'm wondering about chipping off the dropouts and welding on some horizontals and disc mounts... I wonder if you could add enough space with that?

      The three things I can think of, nothing too expensive or rare but:
      1) Bridgestone is definitely on that list, I rode a mates ‘90 mb5 the other day and *absolutely loved it* 😆 I think the history of them, the look and feel is really special for the $$ of the mb5/mb4. Mb1/xo1 is outta the range for me, realistically, the mb5 colour just looked perfect anyway.
      2) ~92 Kona in my size would be cool, I have a 2020 Kona UnitX so it’s ancestor would be awesome to have haha.
      3) Specialized RockCombo..if I didn’t have to pay a fortune for it 👌

      If the frame has a rear facing cable stop, yeah it’s an option. You can always run the cable outer all the way to the rear, I suppose haha. The canti works great, just takes some extra time to get the cable to feel nice 🤙

    • @toastyrides
      @toastyrides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Bmx levers (designed for u-brakes, so “freestyle” bmx brakes) work with cantilever brakes.
      There are also levers out there for road calipers and cantilever brakes, road levers are the same pull as canti brakes, Dia-compe make some as well as others.
      Just make sure they aren’t listed for v-brakes (also called linear pull) as v levers have a different pull ratio, it will feel like the brakes are almost grabbing at half the force.
      Hope that helps!

    • @peacetalktopurple
      @peacetalktopurple 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toastyrides so, there really isn’t an “integrated” brake and shifter unit anymore and my cheapest route will be bmx brakes with either grip shifters or trigger shifters added separately? I suppose friction shifters may be cheaper, but my wife doesn’t care for that! She and probably my kids prefer the click click of indexed shifting.

    What do you mean by the frame runs small? I'm considering buying a GT Outpost which measures 18inchs from BB to the top of the seat tube and I'm 6'1 (185cm), do you think I'll be comfortable?

    • @toastyrides
      @toastyrides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most GT mtb’s I’ve had have a relatively short toptube, but with a long stem, for their seattube length compared to other old mtb’s.
      A GT Tequesta I had, with a seattube of 57cm (centre to top) had a toptube of 57cm (c-c). Whereas a Kona with a 22” seattube would likely run 59cm or so (my 19” Lava Dome has about a 57.5cm toptube).
