      Checking the miles of the car is a good thing too. Tells you the life of the car...if its over 110k, most likely the motor parts and other things will start betraying you some time after the purchase......

      I would bring a head gasket tester to see if your head gasket is good. Turn the AC on and the fans should come on ( two if you have two ) and run it at operating temp. Check the fans again they should be running and blowing hot air and not cool air. Also check brake pedal pad wear.. If you do not see any pad wear on the right bottom of the pedal then most of those miles on the car were highway miles.

    In addition to those 12 amazing tips here are my 5 cents.... Check under the vehicle for extreme corrosion, chances are that the car was sitting near the sea and salt air would have damage parts under it. When the car is turned on put a white cloth close to the tailpipe of the exhaust for about 5 seconds, If you get bits of oil on it that will tell you that the rings of the engine are worn out and it will need an engine overhaul soon. Some people say that if the milage is at 200K, it will need overhaul soon. Look around the engine for oil leaks, if there are any, simply don't buy it.

    I laid on the floor and looked under the car...I noticed some overspray on the front bumper. After many questions from me, the dealer came clean and said the radiator was replaced. I keep probing because the car made a weird noise when shifting from Park to drive... It was obviously in a front end collision. They almost got me! Also, run your fingers on all the edges of the panels, if it's rough, it was likely repainted by a body shop.

      That was Chris Fix I believe and it was OBD II reader, just like this guy had but used a smart phone to get results. If you don't have an OBD II reader, most people don't then just hope or take it to a shop before buying. I never thought about taking an OBD II reader and probably still would not. Good tool to have to used when you take you car in....or just re-set the codes in case the error was a fluke.

    1. Turn on the car and beside the fluid oil, there is a rubber which spins around the engine. Make sure that rubber is not damaged or too loose.
    2. Go underneath the car, make sure there is no oil leakage and fuel pumps work good
    3. Make sure car engine does not make too much noise
    4. Make sure the cylinder does not have loud noise when accelerating(depending on the car)

    Another good thing to look at are the filler caps for the oil and the coolant. The oil filler cap is normally located atop of the valve cover. The coolant caps are typically located directly atop the radiator. Take each one off and inspect the bottoms of the caps. Someone selling a vehicle with blown cylinder heads or bad gaskets, will change fluids but will almost certainly forget to clean off the evidence from the bottom of the caps.

    I can appreciate videos like this by hardworking individuals who genuinely are helping everyday consumers not get ripped off and I am more confident after the comment about for every 1 person who gives a bad review there are 200 who have had little to no issues with their vehicles , my transmission died in my car last September , 217,000 Miles for a 2001 Lincoln, had a good life , so now I'm cautious bc I know newer cars are not built to last like throwback cars , researched nissan,honda,Hyundai, dodge,chevy,Chrysler, kia,toyota,ford, love the newer ford Taurus, I'm a Camaro enthusiast 4 life, in love with the dodge charger , after watching this I know everyone experience is different but if u wise before u buy any vehicle, u will have a long reliable vehicle for years to come, my goal is to make my next vehicle go beyond 300000miles , but thank you very much , been informative

    Great video, thanks for posting! I remember one tip not mentioned that my uncle told me, when you pop the hood, look on the underside of it to see if any oil has been slung up there. My other uncle showed me how to do a quick shock/strut test, go to each corner of the vehicle and push it down hard a few times to get it to try to rock up & down, if the car keeps rocking when you let go - it needs new shocks and or struts.

    On many vehicles you can't check the transmission level with a dipstick anymore, you need a diagnostic tester that supports that function. Also check for any open recalls, crashes etc:

    • @DCSPORTSTER
      @DCSPORTSTER ปีที่แล้ว

      Here’s a little bit of advice don’t buy a car. You can’t check the transmission fluid on it with a dipstick because you have no idea what’s going on in the transmission

    • @richardwarren7492
      @richardwarren7492 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DCSPORTSTER Actually, you can still check the fluid, just not with a dipstick. You can always disconnect a cooling line at the radiator, or simply climb underneath and check it. Yep it's a pain but it's not that tough. The diagnostic tester just will show the level. Or, you can pay to have it checked. The color of the fluid may or may not tell you what might be going on inside. And just a small hint: Transmission dipsticks are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

    Look for cracks in tires, means it was sitting for a while which means it had major work done recently or just “Bandaged up”.
    If you can, jack up at least one side and push the wheel side to side with both hands and if it rocks back and forth it then it’s a bearing and/or ball joint, tie rod end, linkage.
    And do a lean check online with you local DMV…it’s less than $10 usually and it’s insane how many people sells vehicles they don’t own.
