Here is an update for everyone: -Frank was compensated for letting me film. I fixed his other car and saved him over $600. I did this because he was great with letting me film the video. -I thought I made it clear but for those who are confused, this car is worth $2500 with no problems, it needs $1200+ in work to make it safe to drive, so a $1900 offer is more than fair (and he had many people check the car and not even get an offer because of the bad shape the car was in). A dealer would have given him $800 for a trade in if they even took it at all. -For those of you saying, "I would have just given him the extra $100" you are missing the point. If you give the person even more money than the car is worth, you are getting taken advantage of. No one is forcing the owner to sell the car to me, he agreed to the deal. If he didnt want to sell it, he didnt have to sell it. -Hopefully that clears somethings up for those who are confused! Hopefully the series was helpful!
+ChrisFix yeah that's true, actually he tried to lowball you, when you went with the price down he said ohh but you said that you loved the car. He tried to play with your mind but in the end you played with him. Because this is how things go, I did once a mistake when buying my first car, total dumbass at 19 years xDDD and since that I've learned the lesson.
+ChrisFix Cool thanks for your honesty. I was wondering if he was given any kind of compensation for letting you film. I guess that makes sense and that might have influenced his selling price in the end slightly. I think one of the best things about these luxury cars that if they are still in decent shape is knowing that someone previously probably paid around 30-40K for the same car you are now enjoying at just a fraction of that amount.
+ChrisFix the series was really helpful indeed! After having my dad buy a car that needed a LOT of work for way more money than it was worth, with this guide I'm sure that won't happen again, hopefully :D So thanks a lot, and congratz for your Jaguar :)
Frank was very patient and never at any point sounded like he had anything to hide. He's a Class A guy letting you do this on video. And THANK YOU for these important tips!
@Green Giant you have a twisted way of viewing standard business practices. You ALWAYS should try to get the cheaper price on goods and services if at all possible. Used cars come with risks of internal parts going kaputz. As long as the seller was satisfied with the deal - that's all the hell that matters. The only Class B guy here dude is you. If you talk me down on a price and I agree to it - I'm not being ripped off or bled. If I'm not happy with an offer, I don't have to accept. Same thing with Frank dealing with Chris. Frank agreed - so why are you pissed off? Keep in mind., Frank was not mentally deficient.
@Green Giant oh boo-hoo. You totally hurt my feelings. LOL. You're butt-hurt because you live in a child's fairy-tale land. Just to clarify - that place is in your head. When you shop groceries - surely you go the most expensive store available because all those other stores are just cutting the throats of honest businessmen? Same thing with medicine? Grow up son. Grow up. You should stop acting like a backward 12 year old.
@Green Giant I had no idea I was talking to Bill Gates himself! What an honor to meet you sir! Forgive me for my not realizing that you alone are the sole authority on business dealings. Dumb ash. I'm sure you're a wizard at finances. Which explains why you waste your time on this TH-cam channel, talking to a lowely person you consider beneath you. That almost makes me believe you really are Bill Gates. Bwahahahaa! Trust me. I dont feel the least inferior to losers like yourself. Goodbye - have a good day convincing yourself how much better you are than anyone else. Its time I run along now. I hear your mommy calling you and I dont want to get you in trouble. Cya!
@@ImTheDaveman dude you are bad ass like these replys are fucking awesome no joke like you know how talk some since in to people well at least most people that bill gates wanna be probably has no since at all
Me too, I would have gave him a good price and on top of that atleast $200 extra to allow me to film cause I get that a lot of people would be kind of uncomfortable and weirded out being recorded while showing someone your car.
If it makes it any better, Chris said that he helped him with a repair in another vehicle and saved him over 600 dollars since he was such a good guy and allowed him to record. Frank is such a W
Trev Lol. 11 years later, I too will probably have no knowledge on how to properly take care of a car without having to dump my whole bank account to some mechanic, that'll probably end scamming me by making it worse. 😅
Most car shoppers get too emotional about the product, imagining themselves driving it around town, telling their family and friends, thinking how cool they will look in it, etc...As hard as it is to do, you have to be emotionally detached and willing to walk away. Chris did just that. Great job! That's how you do it!
Good advice although my last two cars were a long distance away from where I live, so the expense of getting there meant I had to cross my fingers and hope the cars were good enough to buy and drive home.
Emotions play a huge role in the sales process. Some people will avoid a test drive all together to avoid this, but I don't recommend it, as you should ALWAYS test drive a vehicle before purchasing. And technically you want to buy a car you CAN be emotionally attached to, just don't let that play a role in your negotiating.
Frank probably realized that he wasn't gonna sell the car soon and took whatever he could get for it at that point because Chris was probably the most serious buyer
This guy 😂😂 “don’t low ball them” “I’ll give you 1500” 🤦🏿♂️ How are people still commenting on this after a whole ass year 😂 my comment was just a joke, I wasn’t saying that he should of offered more I just thought it was funny and caught me off guard, some of y’all are taking it way to serious
@@fragrantcrown77 That's how bargaining works, you offer a price at the low end of reasonable and then work up. Half price is a good place to start. And that's being generous, the Chinese technique (as practiced by my mom) is more aggressive...
Seven Yes The Number Seven he did though, I’m not saying that the guy got ripped off or anything because he is the one that In the end agreed to 1500 but I’m just saying people are going to put a price on their cars thinking that it’s worth more than it is wether you or anybody else agrees with it, if you offer half of what they’re asking for then they’ll probably feel offended and low balled
I have been using this video series to help my son find a good cash car. It has been super valuable, great time spent with my son instructing him on the process and helping him feel comfortable taking his time and not jumping at the first thing that he looks at. My takeaways in order: 1. The process of determining the value of a car PRIOR to seeing the car might the best part of this series. 2. Finding all the things that are wrong, and determining if they are more trouble than they are worth. If not, factor the repairs into the negotiation. Seems obvious, but I didn't do that in the past. 3. Knowing what you are willing to spend, and walking away if you cannot agree on that price. I had one observation of the ChrisFix checklist. I didn't see a place to write the mileage. Maybe I missed it. But having that recorded prior to seeing the car was helpful in one case where the car's mileage was meaningfully different from the listing (around 12,000 mi different). I don't know that I would have noticed otherwise. We haven't found the right deal yet, but thanks to this series, we feel like "pros," which gives us confidence.
The car is $3000 "But you wanna be reasonable and don't low-ball it, because it will make him mad and disrespectful." ...and right of the bat, with a straight face offers him $1500 for it, ROFL ...nicely done, sir.
Rule of buying anything thing used, "Don't Be Afraid to Walk Away!". If a seller knows your not emotionally invested in buying their car they are more likely to take a lower offer, and sellers normally price higher than they are willing to take.
Frank probably really wanted to just sell it and Chris gave the best reasons why it is worth no more than $1900. I still feel bad for frank though. I would've probably said $2100
@@marcochan371 me too, here in Germany, buying a car with 1.900 it should at least have a few problems. Usually over 2.000 you find cars with no or few problems.
I assume people didn't watch the multiple videos predating this one to see how in depth this man just showed us why the car is not worth the asking price...the ignorance of the masses I tell you...Great Vid Chris, don't worry...your efforts are not made in vain.
Do the picasso method, become so famous and carry around a sketchbook with you so instead of buying shit you just draw them a picture in 5 seconds and give it your autograph. Picasso did that to buy cigarettes instead of using real money.
Even at 51 years old, I believed I knew how to purchase a used car but your video series really opened my eyes. Thank you for this very straight to the point and very informative videos.
That is what I love about the internet. Just when you think you have learned everything, there is someone who opens your eyes to the truth. We are hoping to do the same on our channel!
Mad respect for not giving emotional ground. You know the worth of the car and are willing to say no even if it hurts. A tutorial demonstrating not just through word but also action
Reasonable seller, nice he didn't consider it a law-ball to open with 1500$, seems Mr Frank intelligently set 3k knowing the car is worth 2k, fully aware people will negotiate it down :)
Exactly. I do the same at times with stuff sell. Either I go hard with a low price and make it clear that it is the final price or I mark it up to be able to find a resonable price after a negotiation.
they are trying to do better than trade-in value. chrisfix probably knows that too. and the guy mentioned he's shown it to a few other people, that's a mistake. shoulda kept it to himself. he's doing the work of a dealer and didn't make much more.. the miles sound bad and hard to find people that want to fix up an old car though
Just wanted to reach out and say I watched this video and went and bought a car listed at $9800 and negotiated it down to $6500 with these methods and the knowledge gained from the inspection. Thank you!
Just want to comment on your negotiating, you demonstrated the biggest advantage you have as the buyer: never be afraid to walk away. It works even better at a dealership since they're likely under much more pressure to sell than a private owner.
@@princeakilesh4881 So I've been doing a lot of studying on buying cars from dealerships and yes, Dealerships will try to put on a _lot_ of 'add-ons' and 'fees' to jack their prices up. You can tell them *NO* to any add-ons, and most, if not ALL of the fees they add are straight-up bogus. My advice would be to settle on a fair price in your budget, then, if they try to add any fees to make you pay more, tell them "I'll pay those fees if you take the amount of them off the price of the car". Not 100% sure if it'd work, but it lets them know you're adamant about sticking to your guns and if they don't agree, stand up, shake their hand and say "Adios" 😂 (just kidding, but be sure to let them know you're not afraid of walking away. That puts extra pressure on them to sell at _your_ price, not theirs)
Hey Chris, I used your advice on the inspection and questions to ask for a recent purchase of a used car. Dude I ended up getting the car for $100 less than what my bottom line price was. Your videos were extremely useful. The seller wanted 2600 and I ended up getting it for $1300. Thanks for doing videos like this.
I'm pry your biggest customer... Last three vehicles including current is a lemon. I can't wait for a law that used cars must be certified by a Mechanic as kinda safe. My windshield wipers don't work and truck dies under 30mph... I just needed a work vehicle and the jerk let me make payments....
With only 135k miles on it, the lowest I would have went was $2100 if i listed it for 3k, not my problem if he wants the OEM rims, I got em in the back for an extra 300 am I right?
Just because it’s a luxury car doesn’t mean it’s automatically worth thousands.. people forget that these parts are expensive, & the trade in value was already 2500 at max. 2000 is actually very reasonable in this case. this is how you negotiate.
hello from London (original) i just wanted to thank you for the check list you preperad . i bought Honda jazz/FIT last week and with the help of that list i manage to eliminate 4 lemons and find myself spotless jazz just because of you. i did not even bring a mechanic with me . i thank you to your parents because they raised fantastic person. thank you very much indeed.
This was helpful, thank you. Actually you paid $1900 cash + $600 in repairs or $2500. You made sure he did pretty well as well. Maybe not in cash but through other services as well. Good negotiating!
Fast forward to 2020... Frank puts his house on the market. Chris calls. Frank: Hi, this is Frank Chris: Hi, Frank. This is Chris. I bought your Jag a few years ago. Frank: Oh, hey, Chris. How’s it going? Chris: I’m doing good. Listen, Frank... I understand you just listed your house for sale and I’d like to make you an offer. *CLICK*
@Matt Miller It was a low ball offer assuming that Chris knew what the asking price was. In other words you have to assume a car this old will have some problems that will need to get fixed so when you ask to see the car one would assume that you think the asking price is not so far up.
ChrisFix when I negotiations I always feel bad for the other side, I always get ripped off or when I'm selling too same thing. Lol I gotta work on it but I think this video will definitely help me on my next car
Chris, I love your posts. One additional item to add to your inspection check list. Run you finger up as far as you can to feel for excessive “dirt”. Excess dirt is alway found in flooded vehicles. Owners can clean up a flooded car everywhere except up behind and around the instrument panel. Hope this helps.
This is like the first time I watch an entire 10+ minute video without getting bored and clicking off. Thank you so much for this useful video. Clean, clear voice, no bs. Love it. Im subscribing. Great video man. I will definetly be rewatching this when I purchase my car in the next couple months.
Julio Constante yeah same here, started looking him yesterday, im just 15 and because im living in Germany i am allowed to drive cars after turning 18, my grandma always let me drive her 1.2 litre Corsa through the forest, i love driving cars and can perfectly stick shift, but i cant wait to have my own one driving through the city. Meanwhile i just watching chrisfix, he is the first TH-camr i can watch car tutorials from. Its nice to see how you can buy an old used car and make it look almost like new. He has such a nice voice to explain such things.
Congrats on the Jag, but you made me cringe during the negotiations. You said don't lowball the seller, but you offered half of his asking price off the bat? BRUTAL! :)
+Chris Freemesser In fairness, 3k for the car when it needs about 1k's worth of work means 2k is the realistic sale price for that thing anway. Then you always start lower again so that theres give and take. The more times you can go back and forth, the more the seller gets to work towards his price, whilst still being in your comfort zone. And as we saw, clearly the 1900 is good enough for the seller, Chris didn't hassle him (that we saw) for the sale, everyone walks away happy.
I've learnt a lot of this from growing up driving only used cars and my father, but there is definitely a handful of things I specifically learned outside of that which is covered here. Thank you very much for the video.
Right, but he put 6k miles on it. He had that car for maybe 6 months. I'd guess it was a stopover for his wife till he could find her the SUV she wanted.
روي جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما: أن رسول الله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: «رحم الله رجلاً سمحا إذا باع، وإذا كان، وإذا اقتضى» This is a saying of Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him I heard a man narrate from Uthman bin Affan from the Prophet PBUH who said: `A man was easy-going when buying and selling, and when paying his dues and asking for what he was owe then he will enter Paradise.” That feeling of making use of someone's need to sell something or ripping him off is discouraged in Islam
@@diablotry5447 compared to 2000 bucks, 100 is insignificant. If you want to buy something that costs 20$, a 10$ increase is a lot. However, of you want to buy something that costs 1000$, the same 10$ is a negligible amount to pay
@@diablotry5447 if you are buying a 2000$ car (+ all the costs for repairs) it means that you can actually afford to pay this amount. Since you are willing to spend 3k+ on a car, the 100$ shouldn't make much of a difference. To put it in other words, for a poor man 100$ is his weekly salary. For a rich man, 100$ is what his child gets weekly to spend. The context matters. If I offered you 5$ you will, most likely, be like "meh". If I offered the same 5$ to a homeless man he would be extremely grateful.
blackopssavage do not get a loan. I wouldn’t personally because it’s just not worth the stress of paying back that loan. Just save up, there are plenty of great cars out there under £2000
I got a loan. Just wanted 2k, but the minimum allowed was 3, so i took it. I should have done all this research ahead of time bc i spent damn near a 3rd of it already on other stuff. Moral of the story. Be smart and proactive
I bought a car without even seeing the car first. It got delivered to my home. Paid 700€ for it. Its worth 2500€. Only problem is one of the cylinders and it likes to eat gas
That's not a lowball. He outlined what it would take to fix the car, which would be over $1200. Not to mention, he didn't even talk about what it'll take to fix the back sensor as well as the front bumper. If the car was in tip top shape it would be $2500, but it wasn't that at all. So, if we assume $2500 is the standard trade in, taking off $1200 for all the things he'll need to fix would be $1300. $1500>$1300, so Chris actually gave a pretty good offer. Definitely on the lower side, but not a lowball at all
@@chrisfix true that. I’m so awkward and passive aggressive but in the end it’s either they move on to another buyer and forget you or you have a new cheap car
Dude, not accepting seller's counter-offer of $2100 was petty on your part. Your top offer was $2000. So, what's $100?. The seller, Frank, was gracious enough to allow you to video the buying process for your viewers and your channel, the least you could have done was to repay his kindness by throwing-in the extra $100 he asked for. Just sayin.
@Jason H actually it goes a bit like this, maybe you can call this negotiating a bit: Me:how much is it? Them: $ Me: can it be lower? Them: no Me: pays amount
@@theblitz1687 another respectful way to ask is simply "are you firm on the price?" if you notice problems and they won't come down than either take it or walk away simple as that. if you DON'T notice problems and they won't come down than fair enough. I almost got tricked into buying a 2005 station wagon for more than i got my 2009 turbocharged car for, so make a smart choice.
Hey ChrisFix. I just wanna thank you for helping me buy a used car. I bought a 97 Honda Civic coupe back in November and used some of your used car buying techniques. The car is a little rough cosmetically and it’s leaking a bit of oil in the oil pan but that ain’t a big deal cuz I can work with that. This and the Del Sol video really helped me out
He was stuck with the car because his price was unreasonable. He sold it because he knew that was the very cash in hand he was gonna get without taking a hit from trading it in himself.
yeah especially considering Chris has a successful yt channel and would earn a bit of coin with adsense and all. I feel like with buying and selling cars a small bit of empathy in the interaction doesn't hurt. I would have accepted 2k.
Why does it matter what Chris's occupation is? Purchasing an item is purchasing an item, the number isn't arbitrary. Would $2100 be reasonable? Up to you. But 1900 is still lower than 2000 and that's how negotiating works. Having an even round number isn't worth $100.
My dad had a 2003 Jaguar X-Type in dark blue with the manual 2.5. I loved it and we had it for three years. We bought it brand new for 36k so $1,900 is an awesome deal.
When negotiating. The one thing i have learnt is to never praise something that needs work. "I love the car but i think your asking too much" the guys got you right there. If you love the car as stands, he's expecting you to take it for that price. Always say that the car is okay, or not too bad, this gives them a sense of false confidence and they quickly rethink their price and are open to a new price.. most of the time
I always do the brake test. If you ask the owner and he / she agrees, what's the problem? In my experience most of the cars I tested have failed the tests ;) It's not dangerous when you're within the speed limit. Brakes fail if the car stops slower than expected or ABS doesn't kick in. Most cars however failed the hard acceleration test. After like 5 test drives I decided to keep my old car, because unlike the cars I tested - it passes all the tests. Yes, I do these tests every time I leave the garage after another repair ;)
Testing the brakes is never a bad idea. Did this on my car once when i suspected the brakes lines may be failing and sure enough they failed. Better that they failed at that moment rather then when i need them.
@@_.yvngrich If you're buying from a private party like someone on Facebook or Craigslist, you need to have the full amount. And, yes, the car always needs to be insured. It's illegal to drive an uninsured car. If you get pulled over you'll lose your car.
I know this is an older video, but I wanted to thank you for all your videos in this little used jaguar buying series. I used your car check list for inspecting and test driving a used car I was interested and it really helped me with making my decision! Lots of content I found was not as helpful as yours, thanks again!
Bill C No, he said _Around_ $2000. $1900 was a perfect representation of what it was worth. Any higher and he would have been taken advantage of, breaking the video guide. And since this was a video series in which case he technically used more of Frank’s time, Chris compensated him $600 in repairs that was entirely exclusive from the video guide. This series is representative of how buying a used car _Should_ be.
You know franks wife had a fight with him that night when he arrived home and told her he sold the car for $1900 instead of the $3000 he was asking for
I just got myself a 2020 nissan versa sv. ive been obsessed with watching these kinds of videos. I originally wanted a toyota but this is what i just ended up leaving with, i dropped the gun too fast and jumped on it without seeing what else cars i had to choose from, lol. i'm very grateful though, god is good.
chris you forgot one thing never get excited or say you like it or love it before the discussion about buying it because they could make the price depending on your like on the car
No, he's showing us mere mortals how we should approach this and even his negotiating is insightful for many people who always end up overpaying for shit and whining later.
I just read 46 reviews for this model last night I think he is pretty much on the money , more things than you can imagine go wrong with these care like elecrtical ,
Not if your spending the same amount to get it fixed. If there was nothing wrong with it then sure, 1900 is low but because it had a few problems 1900 was fair.
Chris, great job on this. I'm actually test driving several potential cars right now, and I would personally add these additions to the test drive: (1) Practice backing the car up! Get a sense for how well you can visualize your surroundings (especially if it doesn't have a rear camera). Also, since I drive a standard, I want to make sure the reverse gear is distinct from the others. I drove a nice car where reverse & 1st gear were too close for comfort, and rejected it on that basis. (2) If possible, ascend a steep hill. Does the car struggle? How does the transmission respond under the stress? (3) Deliberately go over a rough patch or hit a small bump (informing the owner in advance this is a test). Or if you pass by an unpaved road or dirt parking lot, ask if you can take a brief detour there. Get a sense of how it absorbs the bumps, and feels on a less-than-ideal road. (4) You may have done this without specifically mentioning it, but I politely ask the owner for some intentional moments of non-conversation, specifically to listen to the car. Get a sense for wind/road noise, rattles/squeaks, or anything about the engine that doesn't sound pleasing. Then pick up the conversation again. Some of the owners actually complemented me for being so thorough. It communicated that I was taking the test drive (and therefore the car) seriously, and I think that was a good unspoken message to convey. Hope your readers find this helpful.
+Mozzie yeah... i've seen worse. 1998 honda crv with 390k miles (original engine and transmission) with a little too many dents (not anything minor either) and the owner is asking $3k lol. i have to say though, basically 400k miles is impressive
Wonderful video Chris. I was an auto broker for nearly 2 decades and you are giving out amazing information for free. People are commenting on the fact you low-balled him but in all actuality he was selling a mislabeled car. That 2003 in mint condition wasn't worth even 2,500. In the condition it was in 1,500 was pushing it not to mention the 1,000-1,500 in work it needed. That Ford engine with 130K is also not the most reliable. Great job
Chris, my mans, this content is so helpful and eye opening!!! A lot of us have families that don't drive and school doesn't teach us these things and car dealerships are full of shady crooks. I watched all the videos in this series and I really enjoyed how you broke down the information. Planning to buy my first car and feeling really overwhelmed but feel much better now thanks to you :)
4:18 Love how you got Frank to drive while you got in the trunk and lowered your camera under the back of the car. I choose to believe that is what you did. Don't spoil it...
Fun to see that you are making a video with the Jaguar X Type which was the first car I did buy. I also had the 2,5 litre with automatic transmission. It did unfortunately get scrapped after only 2 years because of a lot of rust damage. The car jack fell trough the car because the metal was eaten up by the rust which left the car with a huge crack that went all the way from the front wheels to the back wheels. I lost 8000 usd on that car because I did get the transmission flushed at the Jaguar dealership, changed spark plugs, battery and got new winter tires and summer tires. The only thing I have left is the winter tires which does not fit my new car and I can't even get rid off them for a reasonable amount. Got an Jaguar XF 3,0D Portfolio twin turbo with Arden tuning as my 2nd car now and I am praying that it will last me a lot longer this time. Atleast it's been maintained properly by the previous owners and had a major service only 1 year before I got it where the car got 2 new turbos and quite a bit more work was done. I am really considering getting a cheaper electric car the next time because these cars are draining my wallet really quickly even though I love Jaguar as a brand 😟 I am only earning slighly more than minimum wage so I think many people can actually afford if they don't spend money on smoking, alcohol, partying and things like that. It all depends on what is prioritized and which hobbies people have.
Thanks for your advice Chris. I went for my first ever used car inspection today. I used your checklist and the car seemed up to par. I don't know a lot about cars, and it gave me a lot of pointers for what to look for, especially when it came to questioning the owner. Your test drive advice was especially useful. I only discovered a fault due to your advice to do an emergency brake. I got up to 40 on a clear highway, told him what i was going to do, and went ahead. ABS light lit up and the car skidded round so we turned 90 degrees to the left. I've never been in a skid before, so I was surprised at how calm I remained. The smell of rubber filled the car for the next few minutes. I like the car, but it raised a serious issue on which I can haggle down the price w.r.t repair costs (those brakes will need some work!!), and I wouldn't have thought to test an emergency stop without your advice, so thank you!!!

Frank was very patient and never at any point sounded like he had anything to hide. He's a Class A guy letting you do this on video. And THANK YOU for these important tips!
Thanks a lot!
Cya!

Most car shoppers get too emotional about the product, imagining themselves driving it around town, telling their family and friends, thinking how cool they will look in it, etc...As hard as it is to do, you have to be emotionally detached and willing to walk away. Chris did just that. Great job! That's how you do it!
Robert Henry I made this mistake. My brother was much more focused than I was. But I have to admit, I was emotionally into it sadly for my first time.
Good advice although my last two cars were a long distance away from where I live, so the expense of getting there meant I had to cross my fingers and hope the cars were good enough to buy and drive home.
Well that's the main selling strategy. To sell a dream rather than just a product. You should check this out: th-cam.com/video/48HDFXFe4QI/w-d-xo.html
I agree my first time I was sad about not getting the car I want but eventually I got a better one !

@@fragrantcrown77 That's how bargaining works, you offer a price at the low end of reasonable and then work up. Half price is a good place to start. And that's being generous, the Chinese technique (as practiced by my mom) is more aggressive...
He didn’t really low ball, the car had problems and $3000 is too much. I think he said a used good condition car was like $1600
Seven Yes The Number Seven he did though, I’m not saying that the guy got ripped off or anything because he is the one that In the end agreed to 1500 but I’m just saying people are going to put a price on their cars thinking that it’s worth more than it is wether you or anybody else agrees with it, if you offer half of what they’re asking for then they’ll probably feel offended and low balled
I have been using this video series to help my son find a good cash car. It has been super valuable, great time spent with my son instructing him on the process and helping him feel comfortable taking his time and not jumping at the first thing that he looks at. My takeaways in order:
I'm glad you've taken all that away from this series! And I would write the milage down in the margin next to the car info section
The car is $3000
"But you wanna be reasonable and don't low-ball it, because it will make him mad and disrespectful."

Absolutely!
But at a dealership; there are more cost about the car, right ?
@@diablotry5447 compared to 2000 bucks, 100 is insignificant. If you want to buy something that costs 20$, a 10$ increase is a lot. However, of you want to buy something that costs 1000$, the same 10$ is a negligible amount to pay
@@alexismandelias 100 bucks is 100 bucks, regardless of context.
You don't want to insult the owner.(Owner asking 3000$)
Chris- yeah i need to replace the wheels, 1500.
Rick from pawn stars would be proud.
Definitely on the lower side, but not a lowball at all
considering how willing the owner was to drop down the price after a couple of tries, 3k was a highball

It was kinda good offer I mean it needed some fixing
He was stuck with the car because his price was unreasonable. He sold it because he knew that was the very cash in hand he was gonna get without taking a hit from trading it in himself.
I feel like 2,000 was reasonable. He seemed really desperate
yeah especially considering Chris has a successful yt channel and would earn a bit of coin with adsense and all. I feel like with buying and selling cars a small bit of empathy in the interaction doesn't hurt. I would have accepted 2k.
but still, he lied about having more people coming. that's the only reason he waited until the very end to say that he agree
he didn't lie maybe he was telling the truth but trust me after a few offers u just want it over with .
Dylan Smith He was choosing to sell the car. It's called negotiating. And he did an EXCELLENT job.
We bought it brand new for 36k so $1,900 is an awesome deal.
lol
When you see that many good computers and TVs cost 1,900 it's an amazing deal
+Amin Naqvi He got this car for $1,900 no way?
+Sushi Wolf yeah didn't you watch till the end
+Sushi Wolf holy piss dude I'm taking you with me next time I buy a car...
When negotiating. The one thing i have learnt is to never praise something that needs work. "I love the car but i think your asking too much" the guys got you right there. If you love the car as stands, he's expecting you to take it for that price. Always say that the car is okay, or not too bad, this gives them a sense of false confidence and they quickly rethink their price and are open to a new price.. most of the time
A key thing that you said was about not getting emotional. Sympathy for the owner and fear of losing the car is a mistake in negotiations.
Exactly! Well said!
Hey - any ideas on where to go to get financing on a used car that doesnt rip you off. Geeze am having a hard time
Try going directly to the bank. Sometimes that works better. Financing is tough on cars!
Yea I dont know what the deal is
+chrisfix nice one, by walking away on 2000. He wanted it off his hands asap...
"always be respectful to the owner when test driving car!" *Does Brake test* ROFL
gotta see if the car flips over and kills us both.
Yed thats acteuly a thing that evryone needs to do

Props to Frank for being reasonable and friendly... allowing chris to film and not being offended at the low end offer of 1500
old comment but it aint a low ball if the car is overvalued
"I wont go above 2k, I'm really firm at that 1900" wtf is wrong with you 😂😂
That’s how negotiation works. That’s what it’s worth, and they both eventually agreed. There’s nothing wrong with him.
@@wakewind4129 The point is, Chris basically said he would pay $2k when he made that statement. Frank should have reminded him of that.
Yeah first he said most I can do is $2k, then changes it to $1900. Wth.

Not if your spending the same amount to get it fixed. If there was nothing wrong with it then sure, 1900 is low but because it had a few problems 1900 was fair.
Not even he started at 1500! Get it as low as possible but to only offer half the asking means your not a serious buyer!
"got some weirdos" u nailed it frank!😂
Haha
@@chrisfix “Haha” As in “wow! I just realized I’M THAT WEIRDO!”
Chris, great job on this. I'm actually test driving several potential cars right now, and I would personally add these additions to the test drive:
(1) Practice backing the car up!
Gotta love the people on craigslist who will post a 1996 Honda Accord base with 250,000 miles, asking $5500. lol.....
Don't forget the bondo and rust spots.
+Mozzie yeah... i've seen worse. 1998 honda crv with 390k miles (original engine and transmission) with a little too many dents (not anything minor either) and the owner is asking $3k lol. i have to say though, basically 400k miles is impressive
5 500 $ is way too much. Still, it's better than a 2003 Jaguar with 130 000 miles... But then again, pretty much anything is better than that.
Or when people have a Subaru STI with over 100k miles asking for $16k+
2003 jag with 130k.....in canada this car would easily be worth 5k.
Great job

Chris sure is a good kosher, I can tell by his negotiation skills.
I am really considering getting a cheaper electric car the next time because these cars are draining my wallet really quickly even though I love Jaguar as a brand 😟
I am only earning slighly more than minimum wage so I think many people can actually afford if they don't spend money on smoking, alcohol, partying and things like that.
I like the car, but it raised a serious issue on which I can haggle down the price w.r.t repair costs (those brakes will need some work!!), and I wouldn't have thought to test an emergency stop without your advice, so thank you!!!
the other forza titles look so good compared to fh5 because nobody is able to run fh5 with good fps, max settings made a 50fps difference for me

When I bought my car, I took it to a shop, for 20 euros they ran every test possible, ran diagnostics and came back with the results.
A lot better for somebody who doesn't know much about cars, a test drive would still be a nice though.
a test drive is to make sure it drives correctly getting it diagnosed is a good thing to do too so you know if something else is wrong with it
