I don't see this year's design as a bad thing. The people who are complaining are probably upset because nobody one is going to look at their phone and know right away that they bought this year's model. I like that S Samsung (and LG) kept the good stuff and fixed the annoying things like the fingerprint sensor. This is how we get better phones.

Kattz i agree with you on that. Why ruin an already beautiful design by changing it? Worse putting an ugly obtrusive notch in there?
Belinda Ginete don’t F around, Belinda. iPhone is still the superior purchase at these price points. I’d buy a Samsung as a cheapie phone like their budget J series. No way is Samsung worth the 700-1000 bracket. Make me a sandwich and go to bed
Belinda Ginete Hate the notch! I'd much rather have a little bezel. I heard that Apple is getting rid of it, so maybe the Androids will stop copying it.

Am I the only one who isn't totally offended by the placement of the fingerprint scanner on the S8?

It's not bad to be honest, not as good as the Pixel's placement, but it's not as bad as some people make out.
I miss the days where 5" was considered large. My hands ain't large enough to use these phones onehanded without changing my grip. I wish more companies made flagship sub 5" phones without making huge compromises
5.8" seems to be the sweet spot for me
then you are lucky as you seem to have a wide variety of flagships to choose from. all i can choose (as far as i know of) is sonys xz compact and xz2 compact along with a few huawei devices

I can see that. I think everyone would be fine if the s9 came with dual cameras and more ram though

S8 is for people who dont want to pay too much....so they made S9 plus with more features n big price tag
Not a terrible upgrade
Actually, the A series is quite nice now and good enough for a lot of people. I've recommended the A5 to several older friends who would never use everything in a flagship phone. They all love the phone and the price.
Kattz worth a look at the price point for sure
However good it gets my budget is 150$.

Does the low light sensor work in video mode?

I like biometrics that actually work in complete darkness like my iPhone X Face ID does
I like being able to record 4K at 60fps for more than just 5mins,
In fact only 1080p at 30fps or lower quality gets unlimited recording time on android while iPhones have no time limits for any recording qualities
I like being able to us biometrics without having to pick up my phone out of my dashboard mount
So iPhone X is way better than anything from android
