The fans begged for it and the masterpiece finally arrived. It has been stuck in my head for days. I love that you drew a parallel between the red scarf and her girlhood in 'WCS'. Two separate relationships, but Jake and John BOTH took advantage of her youth at the time and essentially robbed her of her innocence as a young woman. Jake kept the scarf almost as a "trophy", because it reminded him of her innocence, and John robbed her of her girlhood which she could never get back.
I also take the last few minutes as her haunting him. The way she whisper sings it and repeats it always reminds me of being haunted. 😞

It's about Jake Gyllenhaal- and yes, he really didn't show up to her 21st birthday lol. The whole Red album is about their relationship, the good and bad, chronologically, except for the last couple tracks- which are 8 months later, about the beginning of the next relationship after this which wasn't honestly too serious but helped her heal from this one a lot lol. Like Begin Again(highly recommend), and Everything has Changed.

Girl yes, but that's what's so sad about it! There's no way she could ever forget the moment she realized he didn't feel for her the way she did for him because it was at her 21st birthday party! That's supposed to be full of great happy and fun memories but hers will always be sad to think back on. We only get one life, you don't get to relive your 21st birthday. Once it happens, that's all you get. Which speaks to how important it is to make the most of your life events but also how you should never be the reason for someone's horrible memory of an important milestone.

OMG, I can't believe you have not reacted to this before! The picture is painted in the short film, in the middle of the 10 minute version...like you described at 3.55. Would love you to cover that too. The reason this was a vault track, is that originally she just kept writing and writing until it was too long at 10 mins. So there was a short version on Red, but her fans really liked it, so during the re recording she was like ok, you wanted it so here we goooo...🐺😉
