That’s very similar to a quote I heard that said “you CANNOT unscramble an egg!” Taylor is AMAZING! I was lucky enough to see her on the second night of her Eras Tour when she started out in Glendale, Arizona. The city changed their name to Swift City and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) changed their freeways signs to direct traffic according to her lyrics!! How cool is that? 🤣
Want to make sure you know she wrote this when she was 21, as a stream of consciousness. She is 34 now. The lyric video you just watched was her re-recording it for her Taylor's Version. So, she saw the future: she got older, but Jake's girlfriends have stayed the same age. Also, he lived in Brooklyn. So, "Your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones" was just they hung out there and that is where he broke her heart. She is a poet.
The part that hits me hardest every time is "I'll forget about you long enough to forget why I needed to." I had an ex that I could go weeks or even months without thinking about, but then when I did, it was always romanticized in my head and all the terribly horrific moments were erased from the forefront of my mind, so I would end up reconnecting with him. It was a vicious cycle that Taylor captivated so eloquently in a single sentence.
@@EbonyandIvory1213 it's so insane how she is so ridiculously specific about what she went through, yet it still fully resonates with millions of people.
they dated on and off for a while (not for very long, publicly, at least). the relationship seemed to be pretty good for a couple months until jake didnt go to taylors 21st birthday party even though his own close friends showed up. this led to them breaking up and taylor has a song about it called "the moment i knew". i think after that he kept going back to her and they may have tried dating again but it lasted like a month because taylor - rightfully - couldnt get over the disrespect.
And then that’s how we got We Are Never Getting Back Together. “Shortly after a friend of Swift's ex-boyfriend walked into the recording studio and spoke of rumors he heard that Swift and her former flame were reuniting. After the friend left, her producers asked Swift to elaborate on the details of the relationship, which she described as "break up, get back together, break up, get back together, just, ugh, the worst". When Martin suggested that they write about the incident, Swift began playing the guitar and singing, "We are never ever......", and the song flowed rapidly afterwards.”
Yes, so many people think this was only a 3 month relationship...But they had an on and off relationship (after their shorter public relationship had ended) that went on for so much longer, that is why she is saying he kept her a secret after that. And that is what she is talking about in her other song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," that it was a vicious cycle. Like she says "I forget about you long enough to forget why I needed too" And after they ended he spent time in the media downplaying their relationship and that is why she is saying she remember it ALL TO WELL over and over. And Brooklyn broke is a double meaning. His Brooklyn aka him, his world and society circles broke her (He lived in Brooklyn and she talks about his society circles in "IBYTAM") aka he and his community broke my skin and bones, also with the double meaning of “Brooklyn Broke” meaning wealthy people who act like they are too good for it and pretend to be broke (think struggling artist who actually isn’t struggling). This matches a lot of "IBYTAM" (this song honestly puts a lot of context into Red as an album) where she has that angry sounding rant towards the end about the indie music concerts, organic shoes, and the million dollar couch. It also matches “indie record that’s much cooler than mine” from WANEGBT.
Omg thank you so much for this, that line was always lost on me, I thought it just was a phrase she has made up because it sounded good and he was from Brooklyn.
The reference at the end is to the 3 parts she went through in the song. She has the beautiful memories when they would dance in the kitchen “down the stairs”…the memories of the “wind in her hair” when riding in the car.. and “the sacred prayer” is the promise to be with each other. She’s saying it all happened and you know it like I know it was special what we had.

I was drawn in immediately (I had a lover from update NY, romantic fall vibes, lots of fun in the city, etc, didn't end well after 9 1/2 years), and didn't take any pauses so I was a mess by the end. I think Taylor had gone to Brooklyn, where Jake lived, to be in his world. Brooklyn broke her skin and bones because she fought so hard for the relationship to work. She came home very damaged after the end of the relationship🫶
Brroklyn broke is also a reference to dressing like you are a broke Brooklyn boy all the while being rich and capable of buying better clothes. It’s a deception at best.
not sure if someone else already answered this- "down the stairs" is one of the versions of the chorus in the song: the first was "you almost ran the red cause you were looking over at me, wind in my hair i was there I remember it all too well", then "dancing round the kitchen in the refrigerator light, down the stairs I was there, I remember it all too well", and then finally "you kept my like.a secret but I kept you like an oath, sacred prayer and we'd swear to remember it all too well". so she's just repeating the "wind in my hair/down the stairs/sacred prayer, I was there" at the end, which to me is just replaying those memories over and over. The outro to this song is one of her very best, I think it mesmerizes everyone the first time!
Ohhh that makes sense. Yes very mesmerizing. As you can see, kept is in a sort of trans afterwards at the end 🤣 You were the first one we saw that clarified this so thank you!

Yes. Those two relationships formed Taylor as a person and unfortunately damaged her self-esteem and self-confidence a lot. When Taylor was 32 she released would’ve could’ve should’ve the song is track 19 on the album midnights (the ages Taylor and John where when they dated) This song is a take on the relationship from a Taylor who is now the same age as John was So dear John is from the perspective of a 19 year old Taylor and would’ve could’ve should’ve is from the perspective of a 32 yer old Taylor. You should definitely do Dear John but then do would’ve could’ve should’ve right after. Both those songs are important in order to understand Taylor and her songwriting
Jake G had a known keychain that had “F the patriarchy “on it. He threw it at her intentionally landing on the ground. This shows the game he played that he was not misogynistic all while being a user of young women and throwing them away when he was ready to go the next one. After this song I will never see him the same way nor John M after “Dear John” and “ Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.
Loving the new channel name, new backdrop, and upgraded gear. You guys haver done a lot with the channel in a short amount of time. All Too Well is so specific to Taylor's experience yet so relatable. Great job really listening to the lyrics and talking it through for a better understanding.
Another great reaction. I’m elated yall do yall research. And mind you this song is her infamous track 5 on her album which holds a special place on all her albums.
I think one of the core issues, revealed and emphasised by the ATW10 was the age gap, specifically that he used it against her when they broke up "You said if we had been closer in age, maybe it would've been fine, and that made me want to die. The idea you had of me, who was she? A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you" - not trying to judge, some relationships with a large age gap work out, but that's the exception not the rule and less significant past our 20s, when you're likely in the same range of life experience. So to begin with, it's icky to me for a 29 year old to choose to date a 20 year old *despite* her age... yet claim that was the issue when breaking up? Excuse me but was the age gap different when you chose to date her AND get back together again??? AND THEN "the punch line goes 'I'll get older, but your lovers stay my age'"... Sorry but I didn't see enough in the comments emphasising how icky the age gap was. Taylor has always come across as extremely mature and most of her piers weren't her age when she was becoming super famous, but I find it icky that she had two relationships with men significantly older who chose to be with her, and noone (as in the public) blinked an eye. John Mayor who was 32 dated Taylor at 19. And she was a fan of his growing up. And I think it's notable that after those two experiences so young the few people she's dated have been within a few years or the same age as her. It's just shitty and icky.
Also... to ramble more. Other songs from the album echo themes from ATW that give context. (ATW)"And I was never good at tellin' jokes, but the punch line goes"/(begin again) "And you throw your head back laughin' like a little kid, I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did."/(bet you think about me)"you said we're too different, you laughed at my dreams, rolled your eyes at my jokes" - (begin again)"Turn the lock and put my headphones on. He always said he didn't get this song, but I do."/(we are never ever getting back together)"And you would hide away and find your peace of mind with some indie record that's much cooler than mine"/(bet you think about me)"I bet you think about me when you're out, at your cool indie music concerts every week" - (ATW) "You who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes [...] But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willin' you to come and he said, "It's supposed to be fun turning twenty-one""/(the moment I knew)"I try not to fall apart. And the sinking feelin' starts. As I say hopelessly "He said he'd be here""
Really unfortunate situation however it was definitely a learning experience. Part of who T.S is now is because what she’s gone through and how she over some it all. So admirable
They dated longer than 3 months as this song is about how they would break it off and he’d keep coming back. He just kept her a secret. You guys should check out the short film too.
I was 18 when the song came out and had my first heartbreak and would cry to this song in the car daily on my way to and from my college lol now I’m 30 and I feel for that little girl that used to feel that way. It was always my fav Taylor song.
Someone might have commented already, but if you look back you’ll notice “Fuck the Patriarchy” in quotes. The rhythm here (which I love) I think makes people miss her saying “keychain” right after. He has a keychain that illustrates he’s presenting as one image (a feminist) but he’s actually of the narcissistic variety who targets vulnerable women (like young women)
Brooklyn broke is a term for a person Who is very wealthy and dresses in branded clothes that dont look like they are expensive. So they look just like everyone else.
I've been told that 'brooklyn broke' is actually a phrase for someone rich who dresses like a schlub... like Jake G. They're too cool to wear designer or nice clothes and look like they picked up stuff at a thrift store but could totally buy whatever they want. But brooklyn as an attitude could be synonymous with someone cutting, harsh, tough, or too cool to be with her. SO his Brooklyn attitude broke her.

Confused on your interpretation of “I’m a soldier whose returning half her weight” - she’s describing their relationship as a war and she’s a soldier who went into war and after being in war (and being beaten down by the conditions - including not having food) is returning half her weight.
Soldiers come back from wars half their weight /skinnier so it’s a methaphor for her losing weight after going through the war/pain of the relationship/break up

Yes. Those two relationships formed Taylor as a person and unfortunately damaged her self-esteem and self-confidence a lot. When Taylor was 32 she released would’ve could’ve should’ve the song is track 19 on the album midnights (the ages Taylor and John where when they dated) This song is a take on the relationship from a Taylor who is now the same age as John was
So dear John is from the perspective of a 19 year old Taylor and would’ve could’ve should’ve is from the perspective of a 32 yer old Taylor. You should definitely do Dear John but then do would’ve could’ve should’ve right after. Both those songs are important in order to understand Taylor and her songwriting
@@josefinasoderholm6488 thanks so much for sharing that. Noted! Stay tuned 😁
“Fuck the patriarchy” was in quotes because it’s what the keychain said
I liked their interpretation too - never thought about it that way. Love the idea that it's both.
I think it’s absolutely both!
Yes! That’s why what she’s doing is truly art.. interpreted many different ways
You guys are ridiculously likeable!!
Awww thank you.. that’s makes us happy to hear 🫶🥰
GOOD JOB Guys, great choice!!! And you did them in the right order. So proud of you lol.
Of course I was going to find Ivy Cowboy here, hey girl hey! Where is Jamie lol
@@r-ln5xw Jamie is napping like a hibernating bear after a few days away. She'll return to earth soon lol.😘
@@IvyCowboyyaayy! 🤣 thank you thank you!!
Right! Hi btw glad to see we're in multiple peoples fandoms lol
@@katiepooh2137 We have good taste it seems.
Oh many, you guys NEED to see the actual video for this song, there's SO many layers.
Coming up next! 😁😉
Wow. We have to listen to those songs next!
The All Too Well short film makes it a lot easier to understand since it’s a visualization of her lyrics.
Yeah I was confused as to why they reacted to the lyrical video, instead of her short film.
Coming up next! 😁
@@AngHemenwaywe actually did both. We had a lot of recs sharing we should watch the lyrical first then the video. That video is coming up next 😁
Loving the new channel name, new backdrop, and upgraded gear. You guys haver done a lot with the channel in a short amount of time.
All Too Well is so specific to Taylor's experience yet so relatable. Great job really listening to the lyrics and talking it through for a better understanding.
Yes! Thank you for noticing the upgrades and the effort.. makes us happy that it’s appreciated 🤗 and still working on it!
And thank you! It has been fun reading about the songs a little before but also leaving some room for our own analysis
Another great reaction. I’m elated yall do yall research. And mind you this song is her infamous track 5 on her album which holds a special place on all her albums.
Oh the infamous 5 we were not aware of! Thanks for that little tid bit and thank you for noticing 😁
Oh ok. So it wasn’t just those 3 months. Got it. That reaction is coming up next 😁
Ah this was amazing!! 🤍🤍
Thank you! 😊
You should watch the short film. It was written and directed by Taylor as well. It adds up so much to the lyrics
Up next! 😁

@@EbonyandIvory1213you’re welcome 😂
I was 18 when the song came out and had my first heartbreak and would cry to this song in the car daily on my way to and from my college lol now I’m 30 and I feel for that little girl that used to feel that way. It was always my fav Taylor song.
Sometimes rich people in Brooklyn dress down like they are “broke”. These elites are sometimes referred to as Brooklyn Broke.
Ahhhhh! Wow ok. Thanks for that clarity!
Coming back from war, soldiers would return half their weight.
It always confuses me how nobody gets that... 😅
@@thomasdworak2030guess it went over our heads. Think we were thinking maybe too literally and one sided but Tay-Swift doesn’t operate that way 😁
Well now that makes sense 😁😆 thanks for sharing that!
@@EbonyandIvory1213 No worries. It happens quite often at this line, that's why I notice. 😉
@@EbonyandIvory1213 also, just a heads up, you will find she uses war as a metaphor quite often. Her grandpa fought at the Battle of Guadalcanal.
God bless 😊 liked the reaction
Thank you!!! 🙏
Love how deep she gets! Thanks for sharing that!
Well said .
Brooklyn broke is a term for a person Who is very wealthy and dresses in branded clothes that dont look like they are expensive. So they look just like everyone else.
Ohhh got it. Funny we both have lived in NY but are unfamiliar with the term 😆🫣 Thank you!
Ahhhh! Yes. Got it. Thanks!
Yes please~ the reaction for All Too Well short film. Highly recommend you guys listen to 'Tolerate it' or watch her performed it live, it's quite a slow paced song but the depth of the storytelling is just a masterpiece. Have you guys watched the Eras Tour Movie? Curious if you guys have an Era that's a favorite. 😃
Thanks for the rec! And we haven’t yet. We’ve been recommended to watch that, so I guess it’s time 😁
the short film THEN i bet you think about me music video next omg!! its pretty funny and abt the same guy 🤩
Oh great! Thanks for the recs!
If you like Taylor, you will like Band-Maid. I suggest their "Memorable" official music video to start off.
Thanks for the rec!

“Fuck the patriarchy” is actually on his keychain (which is ironic)
Ahhhh yes we discovered that afterwards 🫣

We will! Thank you!
Bet you think about me, better man, the moment i knew, never getting back together are all about Jake.
Oh are they?? 😮 Wow…thanks for sharing that.
You guys are so funny! Both crashes because of beautiful women. LMAO! ❤️😳❤️
Oops 😝
“Fuck the Patriarchy” was what was on Jake’s keychain that he tossed to her. He was a supposed feminist guy and she’s kinda making fun of that.
Ahhhhh! Makes sense. Thanks for the clarity!
God bless ;)
Please react to dear John and would've could've should've, its about john mayer, she was 19 and he was 32. God bless 😊
Coming at you really soooonnnn 😁 Thanks for the recs!
He was a “cool dude” living in Brooklyn
“Was!” not anymore after seeing how he acted
3 months apart and they got back together but it felt way too wrong. That's why she said "three months in the grave."
Ahhhh ok yes. Thanks for clarifying that up for us!
Sometimes the short ones are extremely intense.
You can say that again!
The Moment I Knew, from her Red album, tells the story of her 21st birthday party.
The key chain said “F the patriarchy.”
Ahhhhhh! 😮 ok now. Thanks!
@@EbonyandIvory1213 To be fair this has been argued for a bit because other's feel that it relates to how you interpreted it. I always felt like he said f the patriachy but he was one of those fake feminist guys or those guys who like to act like they are good and moral
Please watch the All Too Well short film next please!!!!
Coming up next! 😁
❤❤❤ As always, you gentlemen are great, look forward to your reactions every week, and...lol..your snack selections, (creamy is king!). Confused on your interpretation of “I’m a soldier whose returning half her weight” - she’s describing their relationship as a war and she’s a soldier who went into war and after being in war (and being beaten down by the conditions - including not having food) is returning half her weight.
Yeah we def interpreted another way and realized afterwards that it was what you said. Thanks for sharing that!
Also a lot of people thing the “scarf” that she is referencing is her virginity
Oh really? 😮 her lyrics are truly a form of art
She dated John Mayer before Jake so I doubt if that theory is true.
COWBOY CARTER THE FULL ALBUM PLS
Noted, thanks for the rec!
How can he say maybe if we were closer in age but then all new gf her age. Make it make sense.
Manipulation at its best 😒😞
I wish you had watched the video
Oh we did! Coming up next 😁
She was 20.
Wow so young.. guess he took advantage 😞
Soldiers come back from wars half their weight /skinnier so it’s a methaphor for her losing weight after going through the war/pain of the relationship/break up
Yeah took us a while to think of that as a possibility of what she meant but makes sense when you really think of it. There’s so much attention to detail with every line she writes in her lyrics. So impressive

2. Running Scarred, down the Stairs
3. Sacred prayers ( like....Please God ..help me)
4. You never call it what it was
It was rare ( change one r for - p -)
Perspective shift. Wow Orlando. Gave us something to think about 🤔 Thanks for that
Yeah like it says 'f the patriarchy' on the keychain but also he's the type of dude who has a 'f the patriarchy' keychain... yet gaslights a woman and won't talk to her about his feelings. Like the ultimate hypocrite.
