The people who say Taylor writes "a lot of breakup songs" are guys who don't think songs are valid when written from a female viewpoint. She writes just as many breakup songs as male artists do. She also writes tons of other songs about other things...just like male artists do. Thanks for giving her a chance. I guarantee if you do other TS song reactions, you won't find a bad song. As a note, I like Aerosmith, Tom Waits, Nine Inch Nails, Mozart, the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, on and on, and I can tell you: Taylor Swift is a musical genius.
She does make alot of break up songs but that’s not a bad thing she is just singing from her experience, the weeknd has a whole trilogy album of break up songs and no one says anything about that but hate Taylor for it, And tbh we are most likely getting a full in love album very soon
It's about Jake Gyllenhal (supposedly, since she never confirms anything). She was 20, he was 29. They only dated for a bit, but she fell hard for him. I believe it ended after he didn't show up to her 21st birthday party. He promised he would, but in the end he didn't bother to show up (hence 'you call me up again just to break me like a promise'). ETA: Taylor has a photographic memory, so you can imagine how hard everything must have hit her. She really does remember every moment of it. Breakups hurt regardless, but I imagine they hurt a lot more when you have such a good memory and can't stop thinking about it.
@@lauraventura1989 I don't remember exactly when she said that, but she always remembers faces even from years ago. Like, she meets someone once and if they meet years later she will remember them. I've seen multiple fans mention her having a photographic memory.
Well, Harry Styles also remembers fans' faces after a long time🤷🏻♀️. It doesn't seem like that to me since she has forgotten the lyrics of songs (mainly the surprise songs) so...
I'm a 48 year old man who's not afraid to admit I've been a swifty for most of her career and have seen her live several times including the Eras tour KC night 1. I love all sorts of music from SO many genre's and personally I think this is one of the greatest written and performed songs of all time!
AMEN brother!! I’m 39 and I’m a proud swifty myself! She has a once in a generation talent, her ability to make you feel your emotions it’s a very rare ability, she is one of the GREATEST songwriters EVER!
@dewoof1078 I couldn't agree more!! People that hate on her are just awful people. She is so incredibly talented it's mind blowing how smart and diverse she is. As a song writer, I mean, seriously, what can I say. I've listened to every song she has over and over. She's sheer genius and will go down as one of the greatest of all time!! I absolutely love everything about her. Nevermind her generosity and philanthropy. I cry or feel alive every day by something she's written!
James current girlfriend is Jeanne Cadieu who is currently 27 years old, Jake is 42. They’ve been dating for 5 years. So she was 22 when they started dating…. TWENTY-TWO!!! And he was 38! Taylor wrote this song 11-12 years ago. Very insightful with the line: “… I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age..”
because she knew age wasnt really the reason for their downfall and he wasnt man enough to say what it was. he gave her a reason she couldnt change, he wouldnt let her fight for the relationship
So, I'm a 47 year old rap/hip-hop fan with 3 daughters that love Swift, but I've always dismissed her as poppy BS... well, I'm here to tell you that I gave her a chance & am kind of a Swifty now (yikes!). Her songwriting is absolutely amazing, her progression & versatility as an artist (through "eras") is fascinating, & her attitude/kindness/resilency are pretty damned inspiring. This song, as others have mentioned, is about Jake Gyllenhall. Swift eventually revealed that the "scarf" (which is red in the short film she directed for this song) was not real, but symbolic of her innocence. As hip hop fans yourselves, my suggestion would be to dive into the history between her & Kanye (who President Obama called a "jackass" after his initial disrespectful chapter of the feud)... then listen to some of her songs from "Reputation". If you familiarize yourselves with the crap that Kanye & Kim Kardashian put her through (she was basically cancelled & hid from the public for a full year before reinventing herself & coming out swinging), then songs like "Look What You Just Made Me Do" & "This is Why We Can'T Have Nice Things" will hit a little bit harder... & "... Ready For It" is one of the baddest-ass album starters (& show openers) of all time. I guess what I came here to say is... you don't have to be embarrassed if you're impressed by Taylor Swift. I love your guys' content & I've been seeing other reactors be pleasantly surprised by her stuff recently. Take the dive!!
This is hands down my favourite comment here and I had to stop to say it. People who had preconceived media notions of Taylor, especially men, and can acknowledge that and make a little bit of a joke about it while explaining what aspects of who she is and her talent as an artist changed your mind are awesome. And I love that you're clearly a dad who cared enough to give an artist his daughters love a genuine chance, and it gives a different kind of validation to when swifties (who can easily get dismissed because... I mean I know I'm biased ha) claim she's special and her writing transcends genres or her stereotyped demographics. So anyways, this was a great one to stumble upon. :)
Taylor Lautner (the werewolf from Twilight) was a beloved ex. I'm only Swiftie-adjacent but I think she wrote "Back to December" about him. They are still friends and he was in one of her most recent videos. As an artist, she's understandably inspired by relationships she has with people (be they friendships or romantic). It just goes to show that if you treat her well, you'll get a sweet song in return. If you wrong her, you'll still get something lyrically brilliant but it might be a little more... blunt about your actions.
Taylor Lautner is the only EX to be written an apology song from Taylor. Every other EX except Joe Alwyn (including Harry Styles now) has scathing songs about them
I’m a 38 year old man that is not ashamed to say how much I admire Taylor Swift’s talent as a performer and song writer. Let me preface all of this by saying I am someone that listens to rap/hip hop more than anything. I’m from Memphis so I have always listened to Three 6 Mafia, Yo Gotti, Project Pat, Dolph, Moneybagg Yo, etc. but some of my other favorites are Vic Mensah, Jeezy, Kanye, Wale, YB NBA, Uzi Vert, and Drake. With that being said, Taylor’s Eras Tour concert is the best concert I’ve been to in my life. I surprised my Swiftie wife with floor tickets to night 2 in Kansas City and became a full-fledged Swiftie myself as I listened to her discography in preparation for the show. When you understand the lyrics and the stories behind them, it will help you appreciate the music so much more. For example, the lyrics from All too Well: “I’ll get older, but your lovers stay my age” Folklore is my favorite album and I even have a Folklore tree tattoo on my wrist that I got when my wife got a “for the hope of it all” tattoo (from the song “august”). It’s been really cool to learn so much more about Taylor as she is in Kansas City a lot more with her relationship with Travis Kelce. Check out the following songs: My Tears Ricochet, seven, exile, The Archer, Tis the damn season, call it what you want, midnight rain, snow on the beach, ready for it, don’t blame me, and delicate. It’s really cool to understand how she uses “Easter eggs” to give hints about upcoming releases.
The craziest part of this song is that she “wrote” it by basically just word vomiting backstage at one of her concerts. She was sitting there just kind of spitting stuff out because she was emotional and her band kicked in with a backing beat. Her mom asked her band leader if they were getting all of this and her band leader had realized this was something special and started recording.
@madylynn2697 the original song was 10 min, but the first time she released it, it was cut down to 3-4 min because it's the normal length. She said in an interview that "she made the mistake of mentioning the song was originally 10 min " and her fans started to constantly ask when the 10 min version would come out. That's why she released the 10 min version, wrote and directed a short movie for the song.
"You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath" & "You call me up again just to break me like a promise." The pain in those two lyrics is visceral. We all have someone in our past that broke us; taught us lessons we never wanted to learn. Not the one that got away but the one who never left. ("A golden tattoo") Just so relatable; "So casually cruel in the name of being honest".... I can't.... This is her magnum opus - you can't change my mind....
Back to December is about Taylor Lautner. It’s why he said he feels safe when Speak Now re-record was announced, and said “prayers for John though” lol.
Taylor Lautner and Tom Hiddleston really got lucky in this. Taylor really said “I’m the problem, it’s me” for them. Jake and John got wrecked, and Harry got quietly slaughtered in the 1989 rerelease.
@@agwardddShe's said that Taylor Lautner is the only partner she's ever apologized to post-breakup. Via a song, of course (Back to December). I don't know about Hiddleston.
If you really want to understand the hype of why her tours are such a massive deal, I cannot beg you enough times to check out: - intro + …Ready For It? (Live) Reputation Stadium Tour 2018 - I Did Something Bad (Live) Reputation StadiumTour 2018 - I Knew You Were Trouble (Live) 1989 Stadium Tour _Honorable Mention_ Don’t Blame Me (Live) Reputation Stadium Tour 2018 And as others have mentioned, My Tears Ricochet from the Long Pond Studio Sessions. Her low register is magical and delicious.
You guys should react to 'Dear John' next. It's another hard-hitting song that SLAPS, with a double meaning (very Taylor Swift of her) of literally being about John Mayer and the idea of a classic 'Dear John' letter but in song form. 'All Too Well' is a MASTERCLASS in songwriting, however. I am convinced this woman could pull a Bob Dylan and win a Nobel for her songwriting. The fact she wrote this song at 21 is jaw-dropping. Loved your reaction!
Yes, I can not stress listening to "Dear John" and "Would've, Could've, Should've" in the same listening. They're both about her relationship with John Mayer (who also was much older than her), but "W.C.S" is her perspective on their relationship as an adult, as opposed to "Dear John" which she wrote at 19.
Great reaction ☺️ her songwriting is second to none, if you enjoyed I suggest listening to My Tears Ricochet or This is Me Trying. I always tell people who only know “radio Taylor” they are missing out. For whatever reason her singles are never her best songs
Let’s not forget SONGWRITING is also melodies/music AND lyrics. Shake it off May not have the lyrical depth of my tears ricochet but it’s an amazing composition it terms of catchiness and melodies making you remember it and dance. Which is also a talent. That’s why tay is one of the bests to have that kind of versatility.
She’s a smart buisnesswoman. They release the catchy big selling songs and it pulls people in then you hear the rest of her music and are exposed to her legit talent and are blown away and then you’re sucked in forever. 😂 it truly is a journey.
@@TamraKrahnThe sad thing is while it pulls some people in, it turns a lot of people off too. I know a lot of people who complain she only writes songs about her exes or that her lyrics are corny because they’ve only heard songs like Shake It Off and 22. I think she’s at the level of popularity now that she should be able to release her best songs as singles and they’ll do well. I think folklore was the moment she started gaining respect from people because they finally realized all her songs didn’t sound like her singles.
Yeah honestly, the songs she put on the radio were the reason I never listened to her other stuff. I liked some of the radio stuff but not enough to say oh I definitely need to hear more music from her. I only decided to dive into her whole discography because of the hype around her, and I wanted to see if I was missing something. I was. She's not overrated at all.
this song was originally released back in 2012 as a 5min version cuz her label didnt want her to put the 10min version and when she rerecorded her album red to own its masters in 2021 she released it with this version. because the fans knew abt this version and we bullied her enough to put it on there 😂
Isn't it so frustrating that her label always pushes the "worst" songs? I say worst very lightly, of course. I feel like us fans always like the stuff that isn't a single.
I think that’s the thing that got to her. From my perspective, it seems like the least objectionable thing in the song. If it had been the real reason they didn’t work, it might be frustrating to a young girl because it’s not something you can really fix. But it’s just true that you’re on a different level when an age gap relationship involves the younger person being that young. But when the guy then serially dates with that same pattern, it’s like a dirtbag player move. That’s what experience gives you - the ability to spot that type even if he’s pretending otherwise with moves like meeting the parents, etc.
Taylor was under 21, he was around 30. He’s now 42, gf is 28. He been dating her for 5-6 years. This song and really the whole Red album would keep me from any of his movies
Thanks for giving Taylor a chance! I'm a 65yo man (so I'm not in the standard TSwift demographic) and, prior to Taylor, my fav was Metallica. This comment will probably get lost in the flood of comments but, FWIW, I would emphasize the wide range of Taylor's music. To get a quick sense of her range, here are three songs to consider: Reputation Stadium Tour movie: intro + "ready for it" (Netflix) (The movie intro is only a minute long. Don't skip it!) th-cam.com/video/2QJaf6qq8jQ/w-d-xo.html Exile (Long Pond Sessions) (This is a clip from one of her other movies.) th-cam.com/video/o5SQIECedTY/w-d-xo.html Look What You Made Me Do (official music video)(she has lots of fantastic videos) th-cam.com/video/3tmd-ClpJxA/w-d-xo.html And, just FYI, here is her1989 World Tour movie (another one of her iconic concert movies, in case you find yourselves falling down the rabbit hole). th-cam.com/video/P5JLMp08GC0/w-d-xo.html
The way "and you called me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest" literally reaches into my chest and rips my fucking heart out though.... Legitimately some of the best song lyrics anyone has ever written.
Glad this popped up on my feed, as I enjoyed your reaction. It's fun to see an influx of dudes actually giving her a chance and trying to figure out what the fuss is all about. Also, I don't think you need to know who a song is about in order to appreciate or enjoy it. If you're interested in finding out more, I can't suggest enough the Folklore Long Pond Sessions!!!
Taylor Swift has had two relationships with major age-gaps. The first was with John Mayer. When she was 19 and he was 32. The song "Dear John" was about him. A new song called "would've, could've, should've" was recently released and is rumoured to be about him. In it, Taylor as a now 32 year old reflects on that relationship and comes to terms with just how messed up it was. The next one was Jake Gyllenhaal. She dated him when she was 20 and he was 29. Honestly, I thought the only part in "All too Well" that truly bashes him is about how he told her that if they were closer in age, it might have worked out. You would think that if a guy realised that the age was a problem, he would start dating people his own age. But nope. I think the last paragraph was added recently given that Jake still dates women in their early 20s. He has quite a few breakup songs about him. You are actually right in that he might have been trying to hide her. The song "I bet you think about me" seems to be about him because the background of the guy described in it matches his. He comes from a veryyyyyy posh family while Taylor grew up on a farm. He is old money and those people are extremely critical of people who are not from the same background.
@@jehouse61 She grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania. Her father bought it from one of his clients, I believe. Yeah, they weren't poor, though.
Yeah, there is a scarf in the video she made for "All too well", there is a red scarf in "I bet you think about me", and there is a scarf in "We are never getting back together." For me, those are the songs that sum up their relationship (with Jake).
Her immediate family had money, but so did her father's family. In fact, if you're familiar with Philadelphia Story-the movie, that's where her grandfather (or great grandfather?) ended up, ie the very tony, old money enclave of Bryn Mawr, PA outside Phila. Family was Italian, so they must have been new money and not quite a fit in the anglo dominated area, but still it's generations later so it's old money now. Also, speculatively, when her father is described as a stock broker, I question if that means he learned the trade managing inherited money. And a tree farm is a tax deductible piece of land. You harvest the trees and even if you lose money, you can deduct a large portion of your estate. So I doubt Gyllenhall rejected her over old vs new money. He may have felt he came from more cultured artistic stock vs her popular style.
@@jehouse61she grew up with money but not like… old money rich lol she was raised by two working parents, who made sure she understood where money came from and that it had to be earned. She went to public school surrounded by students who were from various economic backgrounds. Its different from the sort of lifestyle Jake G grew up in… the Gyllenhaals are a Swedish royal family lol they have a family crest and a family tree on wikipedia and everything haha
Hi, first time viewer of yours. Your video popped up on my feed (huge swiftie) and I was so genuinely interested in seeing this video. Two men you would never think would listen to Taylor swift willingly, responding to one of her most heart wrenching songs. It’s very cool seeing people who don’t delve into her music responding so well to it and appreciating her writing. Thank you for blessing my TH-cam feed with this video, very wholesome. PS. I LOVE how the guy on the right is just vibing the whole time.
Taylor's song "I Did Something Bad" live at the AMA's 2018, will give you a whole other view of Taylor. This comes from her Reputation era. Things you should know: Taylor was born December 13th, 1989, 13 is her lucky number and her 5th album is called 1989. To put things in perspective, Taylor is 33 and has only seriously dated around 10 or so guys (one of her more recent was with Joe Alwyn a British actor, they were together for almost 7 years), but if a man dated that many, it is not an issue. One other performance is Vigelante Shit! (from her recent Midnights album)from her Eras Tour is really good, it is about Scooter Braun who bought her first 6 albums out from under her. Besides writing her own songs (some with co-writers) she plays piano, acoustic, 12-string, and electric guitar, banjo, and ukulele.
This song is the epitome of a song painting a very vivid picture that allows you to experience it vicariously and draw your own experiences from it with lines like, "I forget about you long enough to forget why I needed to." I will forever be amazed by songwriters who can paint such a lovely picture with their use of words.
My favorite thing about All Too Well is how it went from a deep cut track to the massive 10 min hit is now because of how passionately the fans loved it. She is so in touch with her fan base (lurking online always watching as she puts it) she knew we were all begging for the once mentioned full version & saw her chance with the re-records. I remember when the she posted the announcement of RED TV with the last line saying "ones even 10 minuets long". The Swifties (myself included) lost our damn minds. I highly recommend watching the short film she made for it as well. Takes a emotional song and just makes it devastating.
It's amazing to see that people who don't know Taylor's work are starting to discover her talent. It's been great to see your reaction to Taylor's songs. I'm a swiftie and I loved discovering Beers & Bars on TH-cam. Hugs from Brazil!!! 💚💛
Great reaction! Yes the line "You kept me like a Secret but I kept you like an Oath" is amazing!! Would really like to see more Taylor reactions from you guys
Jake Gyllenhal and she were dating and they were out with some of his friends. She felt he was embarrassed by her (age? sophistication? pop star?) when he ignored her all evening and didn't include her in their conversations. She felt belittled. He dumped her bc he thought she wasn't mature enough for him. He was 29, she 20. I personnelly think he's pretty shallow if this was the case.
I was in a relationship where I found out the guy never told about me to his friends and colleagues for the first years. He said he enjoyed having me like his own little secret. Some people are creepy like that and enjoy harvesting some feeling of power over others that feels like it is theirs and theirs alone. When I tried to get out of the relationship and living arrangement he attacked and sexually abused me. The line 'if you had been older maybe it would have been fine', makes me wonder if he kept her a secret because a part of him was aware and embarrassed of the a power imbalance with of her young age and lack of life experience.
This particular song is about Jake Gyllenhaal. They had a large age gap, he was embarrassed and ashamed of her in front of his friends, (ergo, he kept their relationship like a secret, while she loved him and kept him like an oath) She kept thinking he was going to finally tell her he was in love with her, but he never did. He stopped talking to her for 3 months, and then came back and wanted to pick up where they left off, so, they did, and just when she thought they were happy, he broke up with her and said it was because of her being so young. The punch line goes that she got older, but his lovers stay the age Taylor was when they were together. He’s in his 40’s and still dating women in their 20’s.
She debuted this 10-minute version on SNL and it was epic! She also directed a short film about this song.... maybe you could do a follow up critiquing that? Watching you two watch this is my new crack!!
Taylor wants her songs to be heard and applied to the listeners' lives. The songs are now ours. It's not about her specific muse. Her songs stand on their own no matter the muse.
Taylor is such a great lyricist! She's a story teller! Fan or not you will feel her song like FEEL it in your heart if that's not magic idk what it was
i love this vibe so much, just chilling out. That's what we need! When we say this, we don't mean that we want everyone to try listening to Taylor and make her the greatest. We just want you to be fair and see that she's not empty ; there are things that put her in her current place That's all we want , thanks for that as swiftie for 10 years now
Do yourselves a favor and watch the version she did on SNL (similar to this but she sings it with more emotion). It’s flawless. 💖 Love Taylor- she reminds me of myself.
I absolutely LOVE this song!! As someone that was “groomed” as a teen it sure hits some trauma spots. He was 34 when I met him at 16, waited to I was 18 to “date me”. This song speaks volumes to me.
I’m 37 and only recently decided to go back and listen to her albums, I had only known the songs on the radio previously, and I found a TON of other songs I’m in love with! And it makes me So Happy to see other people start to appreciate her too. Great commentary.
Taylor Lautner, his wife and TS are still friends. His wife is named Taylor as well 😂. He was in her recent video! The song she wrote for him after they dated many years ago was Back to December. He was one of the good ones. Dear John is about John Mayer. You should listen to Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve and Champagne Problems!!
She didn’t start off as being the strongest vocalist in the industry but she worked at it for years and now her voice is very strong. She’ll always be a great lyricist first and foremost though.
This song originally came out when I was 18 and had my first heartbreak and I’d listen to it in the car and cry every time. Now I’m 29 and still get a little teary over a couple lines of the song. “Id like to be my own self again, but I’m still trying to find it”
She wrote the original song when she was just 21 when she wrote this and it was about Jake Gyllenhal. Reece Witherspoon & people were giving him crap about how young she was because he was 29 so he dropped her & then reaches out later but she was done. She released the long version & produced a short film to go with it. She’s also done a hell of a lot more than write breakup songs. She’s changed the music industry & done things that benefit every performer. Go watch the Eras tour in the theatre where she bypassed the middle man. It is amazing
An absolute masterpiece. I dismissed Taylor for years and finally started really giving her a chance when Folklore came out. I can 100% say that I'm a Swiftie Now. She's one of my top 5 favorite artists. And this is coming from a life long metalhead.
I'm a 56 year old guy, and I have to say, I'm a fan. Completely impressed by her. I have been always been a huge fan of a wide variety of music. I was the teenager annoying his parents blasting Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. Name a genre and I favorite artist. That said, Taylor Swift is exactly the kind of artist I used to dismiss ... and I would have been wrong. She is a complete badass.
You cannot deny that Taylor Swift is an awesome lyricist. Her writing is wrapped around relationship angst. It is speculated that this is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal.
I love your grime reactions and that’s how I found your channel but I love Taylor too so thanks for this. The short film she directed for this song was a excellent short story cinema
It's so funny how the guys are theorizing what the possible meanings of the song are and the nature of the relationship. Meanwhile... the Swifties can tell you THE MAN'S NAME. 😂😂
By the time this song came out, it was her 3rd studio album, she’d won album of year twice and performed this song at the Grammys, so no he definitely didn’t “create” Taylor. And no man did.
Omg I LOVE your thoughts on the outro being from his point of view! Ive always thought of it as her ruminating thoughts convincing herself it was real, but the I was there could really be both of them. Damn. Loved the reaction!
this song hits me right on the feels. no matter how many times i hear it, i hurt with her. it brings back all the pain of pasdt relationships that hurt when they ended. even friendships. i think i mourn loosing a friendship more as it seems so much more personal
This was so fun to watch even though a heart breaking song. I suggest My Tears Ricochet from the Long Pond Studio Sessions. It’s about her label screwing her over and selling her music out from under her. It’s a mesmerizing performance.
Rumor has it the "scarf" wasn't a scarf guys. This is about Gyllenhaal. They had Thanksgiving (and possibly other stuff/1st scarf?) at his sister Maggie's house. He blew her off for her 21st birthday a few months later.
From TIME magazine, issue dated December 25, 2023: "For building a world of her own that made a place for so many, for spinning her story into a global legend, for helping to bring joy to a society desperately in need of it, Taylor Swift is TIME's 2023 Person of the Year." RogerC 12/17/23
hey guys idk if you are accepting more taylor recommendations but tolerate it and cardigan would be definetely what you need to hear from her! this songs are all written by her but not about her own life, its just magic how much creative she can be as a liricist, guess you would love it!!!
Love it. She performs this every night on Then Eras Tour. Cant's believe it. It's hard to go back to the 5 minute version after hearing the 10 min. Great reaction guys and great choice!
The reactions when it started building at that "AND YOU CALLED ME UP AGAIN JUST TO BREAK ME LIKE A PROMISE" , was the reason I watched this video cause I am not a Swiftie either, but that, hit different and hit hard; but I was literally like *exhale* phew .
I mean Jake Gyllenhaal at all the line that always gets me is a soldier returning half her weight because in Miss Americana, she talks about basically starving herself
What you're talking about when you say that she doesn't have gaps in her range or places where she cracks - your are talking about breaks, which everyone has as they switch into a different vocal register, but really talented singers can do that switch pretty seamlessly to the point where you can't hear where they made the switch. So she definitely HAS a break, she's just really good at maneuvering around it.
As Taylor has gotten older, her voice has gotten even better. You cant say that about a lot of singers all the time. Thats why I really love that she decided to rerecord all of her old music that was stolen from her. Her voice is absolutely amazing now.
I've been a fan of Taylor's since the first version of her album Red came out -- especially because of this song and "I Almost Do" -- a pretty deep track. However, I still get chills and want to scream of how she hits the experience so perfectly when she sings "And you call me up again just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest." Those words hooked me forever. Hope you two enjoyed this great song. I enjoyed watching you listen.
Her and Taylor Lautner are friends. He was in a new music video with her and on stage at her tour back in July. She’s good friends with him and his wife. This is about Jake
This song is believed to be about Jake Gyllenhaal. (He's been photographed wearing the same scarf that she was once wearing in a paparazzo photo of the two of them together when they dated years ago). Loved the reaction! :)
The video for this is like a movie & is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. She wrote 'Back to December' to tell the story how she regrets breaking up with him. Then she wrote 'Dear John' about John Mayer, who was too old for her. LOL A man takes a chance when he date Taylor. She writes about her life & her experiences & as in Taylor Lautners case, he was nice & she broke up with him & wrote the song about her regret, calling herself out. She is loved by millions because she is real & admits to being human with flaws. I'm 70 & have enjoyed her since she came out with country music at 17. She is an amazing lyricist. You need to check out a live performance from her Era's tour. She is like Beyonce! Huge productions & backup dancers etc. Not low key like this one, for sure. You will be pleasantly surprised.
1:48 Taylor has confirmed the scarf to be a metaphor (although Jake Gyllenhaal did also steal a literal scarf of hers), widely believed to symbolise her loss of virginity “it smells like innocence and reminds you of me” and how she can never get this “scarf” back, hence why the ex lover she sings of still has it “in [his] drawer even now”. This imagery is furthered by the fact “he held my lifeless frame” - Taylor having openly talking about her “good girl syndrome” and her influence as a role model to young women, Taylor may have really struggle with the idea of losing her virginity so early into the relationship “and you keep my old scarf from that very first week” but also with as a Christian having sex before marriage.
I think she lost her virginity to John Mayer, based on would've could've shouldve...."give me back my girlhood, it was mine first", and she talks a lot about basically losing her religion over that relationship. Just my opinion.

You want to hear the song about Taylor Lautner - that song is Back to December - I love it just as much as this, it's from the other perspective of her referring giving up too soon, I also think Midnight Rain is about Lautner. Check em both out, excellent lyricism both times!
You should watch the video she wrote, cast and directed for the 10 minute version it's stunning. On top of her other skills she's become a wonderful director. Swifties say this song is about Jake Gyllenhaal!

@@BeersBarsWhat's the hype about? To start off she's not a weed smoking rap criminal👍🏿

Watching men get shook at “give me back my girlhood” in WCS is my favorite.
✌
She does make alot of break up songs but that’s not a bad thing she is just singing from her experience, the weeknd has a whole trilogy album of break up songs and no one says anything about that but hate Taylor for it, And tbh we are most likely getting a full in love album very soon
Jake Gyllenhaal is who she's talking about. She was 19, he was 32...
@@blakequick3099we already have 2 albums of being in love Reputation and Lover
@@MBGrace1 I know we do I was more referencing her relationship with Travis is going to give us a love album soon
Hey! Could you tell me when Taylor said she has a photographic memory???
@@lauraventura1989i want to know too! but that explains a LOT

That’s what I came to say.
AMEN!!! SWIFTY FOREVER❤
Every other EX except Joe Alwyn (including Harry Styles now) has scathing songs about them
@@helenbentley9546 nothing bad about tom too
@yousra8728 the only thing was that there was an overlap with Tom and Calvin
The same can really only be said for Tom Hiddleston as well (Midnight Rains).
And he married a taylor. Hahah
This is so sweet! ☺️
All this effort to share something special with your wife! And in the mean time, you became a swiftie!! ❤
It was at a rehearsal one day not a concert but the full thing is actually like 20 minutes lol

Perfect list. Perfect!
You guys should ABSOLUTELY look at the mini-movie she did to go with this song because it's an absolute masterpiece in storytelling.
Yeah they do.
The SNL performance with the film playing behind her is amazing.
Really appreciate that and thanks for the song recommendation ✌️🍻
pls do it and add Would've, Could've, Should've in the same listening :)
And follow that - this is a must - with "Would've, Could've, Should've", looking back on that relationship years later.
Thank you for showing Tay some love to Taylor the poet ❤️❤️❤️
Adding!!!
Some men celebrate a strong, powerful, talented, kind woman. Others are intimidated and just want to tear them down.
this song was originally released back in 2012 as a 5min version cuz her label didnt want her to put the 10min version and when she rerecorded her album red to own its masters in 2021 she released it with this version. because the fans knew abt this version and we bullied her enough to put it on there 😂
Isn't it so frustrating that her label always pushes the "worst" songs? I say worst very lightly, of course. I feel like us fans always like the stuff that isn't a single.
@@aimeemarie5462 totally agree with u

@@Ritzkid not suddenly tho ! we were asking the question for almost a decade
I really loved the short version, but the long version is so much better.
Jake Gyllenhaal... Used her age as the excuse to break up with her, but he's now in his 40's still dating women in their early 20's!!!
"I'll get older but your lovers stay my age."
Thanks for giving Taylor a chance! I'm a 65yo man (so I'm not in the standard TSwift demographic) and, prior to Taylor, my fav was Metallica. Her story telling is absolute best. Its so relatable. This is by far my favorite song of hers.
She did not grow up on a farm! Her parents are extremely wealthy.

The video that Taylor directed is AMAZING!
When he said painting a picture I yelled PAINT THE PICTURE TAYLOR👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wolfpack? 😂
I don't think I have ever seen a reaction from non swifties so on spot to all too well. Like, you two really got it without the context lol
Thanks, we learning and got more coming soon ✌️🍻

Great reaction!
Yes the line "You kept me like a Secret but I kept you like an Oath" is amazing!!
Would really like to see more Taylor reactions from you guys
Jake Gyllenhal and she were dating and they were out with some of his friends. She felt he was embarrassed by her (age? sophistication? pop star?) when he ignored her all evening and didn't include her in their conversations. She felt belittled. He dumped her bc he thought she wasn't mature enough for him. He was 29, she 20. I personnelly think he's pretty shallow if this was the case.
Yup but then he continues to date women who are 20.. hence her “ joke” about women age who stays the same.
When you said -“talk about the one who got away!”, I def laughed out loud! So funny and true.
You can visualize her songs …she’s an amazing songwriter and storyteller…
Taylor is such a great lyricist! She's a story teller! Fan or not you will feel her song like FEEL it in your heart if that's not magic idk what it was
Also this 10 minute track is the OG All Too Well. Taylor & co-writer cut it down to 5min for the original RED album.
i love this vibe so much, just chilling out. That's what we need! When we say this, we don't mean that we want everyone to try listening to Taylor and make her the greatest. We just want you to be fair and see that she's not empty ; there are things that put her in her current place That's all we want , thanks for that as swiftie for 10 years now

“Id like to be my own self again, but I’m still trying to find it”
We live and we grow ✌️🍻
I LOVE THE BRIDGE TO THIS SONG
I love your grime reactions and that’s how I found your channel but I love Taylor too so thanks for this. The short film she directed for this song was a excellent short story cinema
Y’all should listen to Dear John (Taylor’s version). That one was written for John Mayer
Your respect for Taylor is why l subscribed. Look forward to more TS.
You just dipped your toes into a rabbit hole lmaooo
Can you imagine having to relive your past relationships and related trauma over and over and over singing with such passion every time you perform?
She also wrote and directed a short movie with this song. Sadie Sink from stranger things was in it.
This song is believed to be about Jake Gyllenhaal. (He's been photographed wearing the same scarf that she was once wearing in a paparazzo photo of the two of them together when they dated years ago). Loved the reaction! :)
The scarf is a metaphor, y’all.
They also say the red scarf represents her virginity. This song is deff about Jake! Back to December is about Taylor Lautner.
Back To December isn’t about Jake Gyllenhaal, it’s about Taylor Lautner who was her most beloved ex. All Too Well 10 Min Version is about Jake
Thank you for giving Taylor the respect she deserves
Her maternal grandma was an opera singer. Majorie, a song and a video she made about her.
Please check out her 1989 Tour. She brought on multiple surprise guests like the Weekend, Mary J. Blige, Kobe, Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, Idina Menzel (Elsa), Wiz Khalifa, etc.
Multiple is an understatement. She had a different huge name for every single city hah
Taylor has only nice things to say about Taylor Lautner ❤she broke up with him and felt so bad about it and wrote the song Back To December about him.
Dayumm, the woman can freaking write.
One thing I’ll say for her is that her lyrics are top tier.
You guys should watch the (award-winning) short film she made to this song! Absolutely incredible. ❤
