After the passing of Bob Marley, Yellowman took the center stage and took Dancehall to the forefront, he turned the tables and became the crowd favourite,,and the whole world crowned him The King,, Shabba, Beenieman, Ninjaman, Bounty Killer, Capleton are all Princes The King still lives
King Yellow Man have the biggest impact on dance hall as a DJ .. Before yellow man you could not have a Stage with DJs alone performaning singers was headliners. Yellow man change everything… That’s why Yellow is king … just like Pele in football
Top class content. I respect this. Anyway, I cant help to recognize that three of the 5 are born under the Capricorn sign. A sign known for leadership, ambition and being competitive. Shabba is my favourite. He is the true Emperor of Dancehall. Very raw and unapologetic grassroots black Jamaican. His international achievements as a pure raw dancehall artiste is unmatched by even Buju. Buju's big status and major successes came when he made the transition to Reggae.
@EliteJamaica You maybe to young to remember when Buju came in... But Buju totally changed Dancehall.... When Buju out in 1991 Dancehall has never seen anything like that... Vybz Kartel himself said it best," when he heard Buju, he didn't think Dancehall could get any better than that".. Hence his name Addi Banton....
@EliteJamaica Yea.. Then go look at what Buju did before Til Shiloh( which was his 3rd album)... Go look at Mr Mention (His 1st Album) and Voice of Jamaica(his 2nd)... And go ask Kartel about Buju 😂😂
All five man is king 👑 and they all represent a time in dancehall history and if we look at it from that perspective we will see that the status is okay for everyone of them to view themselves and the fans of their time can also agree on there king 👑 ship title based on the influence they have on their fans in their time of raining in the dancehall . So the legend yellow man king 👑 1 got that crown in the late 70s more in the 80s…. Then the great Shaba ranks got his crown 👑 in the 90s then come Beenie man also in the 90s into the early 2000 along side bounty killer who was Beenie man rival and between the two Beenie man was given the title as the king of the dancehall and Beenie was also given the title as also the doctor of the dancehall and last but not least the talented vibes kartel who gaine his popularity after he had some running with the law and was incarcerated and gained a level of fame has he released a number of songs while he was behind bars….and up on his release became even more popular ., the point is they all are king 👑 but just represent time and generation.
yellow man shout never have anything bad to say about his coworkers because they don't victimized him knowing what he was a goose, they don't stop his dreams, go so man smile ❤❤❤❤
I don't know why people keep worrying about king of dancehall when King Yellowman is the one who showed dancehall artists how to make money from their talent I remember the days when dancehall artists used to get lots of drinks and and girls to ram dancehall and King Yellowman is the one who changed that completely and showed them how to make money from their talent this is why all dancehall artists should come together and honour The King Yellowman
Straight up Bounty Killer. You may ask why. Because Bounty's longevity is characterized by musical agility and timless classics that will forever appeal to the human cause/condition. Take "Look Into My Eyes," for example, I grew up on Maxfield Avenue (inna di ghetto called "Rome") and completely connect with every word; the death, hunger, and perpetual survival mode. I respect the other artists but "gal chune" serves to excite emotions but seldom inspire.
It's nice to have many dancehall kings it means more good music. If you reach a certain level you are king. We need more titles to give them pioneer, God father etc.
A KING LEADS AND PAVED THE WAY FOR OTHERS. WITH THAT SAID THE PERSON WHO'S ACHIEVEMENT PAVED THE WAY THE MOST FOR OTHER DANCEHALL ARTIST IS UNDOUBTEDLY SHABBA RANKS,PERIOD.

I think Shabba is the King,no other Dancehall artist is bigger overseas in his prime while still being on top in Jamaica, Sean Paul for example is big overseas, but no true dancehall fans really check for Sean Paul, he’s considered pop,Shabba even responsible for giving birth to a new genre, reggaeton, Shabba is no longer active and probably it’s due to being cancelled by lgbt while defending Buju boom bye bye song.
Kartel sung positive songs to “Life we living,” “Haffi Mek it one day,” “More life” 2004&9 “Thank u jah” in 2010. “Life is what u make it,” in 2011. “Ghetto Life.” “Life sweet.” “On and on.””Dollar sign.” “Ghetto life.” So on so forth. A dem make it look like the man do bay garbage. Don’t know what he has been doing lately since his release though. Now him a song some rubbish, but mi we go him time!!!!!!!
Dancehall lyrics are usually rubbish lyrics, so to single out one artist for singing rubbish lyrics is not fair. In the early 1980s, Yellowman sings the most garbage, but ironically, that's what the people liked, and that's what propelled him to stardom. Gimmicks would eventually take over from roots, reality and culture to become the Hallmark of what dancehall is today. By the mid 80s to early 90s, dancehall lyrics from most artists were nothing but gimmicks and garbage. I don't know why we pretend like dancehall music is a highly moralized movement that pushes Jamaica into anything positive.
Why do you disrespect these Dancehall Legends by putting Kartel inna dem frame. Come on guys. Just coz a man go ah prison and come back u tink seh him ah big an broad like dat. Its a joke. And please stop disrespecting the legends dem..
One correction in your narration, Portmore is not a “challenging community.” It is what you make it to be, simply ask those who have lived there for many years.
@ @elite, I understand your point based on recent times, I lived in Portmore too when Bayside was the mall. Waterford was a vibrant community until gangsterism and guns were introduced to the youth leading to wider factions. I am sure no one wants to tackle that research now, time matters.

In terms of ranking I would sat that Yellow Man is the Foundation King. That cannot be taken away from him. Shabba Ranks is the Emperor, his reach, achievements and legacy in the music is unrivaled. Bounty is King of the Dancehall Streets. Like the Local Goverment Minister. Beenie the King of fashionable Dancehall and the King of an era of Dancehall. Late 90s to first decade of the 2000s. Since then Kartel is the King of Modern Dancehall. There must be a place for Buju as well.
Beeniman is a great artist but what have he done for dancehall than just himself, there is only two person on dat list dat have do a lot for dancehall and dat is Bounty killa and Vybz Kartel.
