step after install new timing chain tensioner.
1.Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise, then
disconnect the plunger knock pin from the hook.
2.Turn the crankshaft clockwise, then check that the
plunger is extended.

I have a 2004 Camry 2.4L how do you remove the wire harness from the bracket so you can swing the wire harness out of the way to access the timing chain tensioner?
What happens if the motor is started first ?
I only need to replace the timing chain tensioner gasket. Do I still have to set the tensioner by rotating the crankshaft?
The tensioner is easily removed and install if the crank shaft is rotated and set to the 0 mark
Do you prime the tensioner with oil before installation or with these designs is not nesesary? I replaced one before but the timing chain kept rattling even though everything was new
It is better to apply oil to the timing chain and there is no need to apply tensioner

So to be clear I can do this on the truck right? Does the timing have to be lined up perfectly?
Yes you can, but the timing is 2az engine,It is very important that the timing marks are correct

How did you get to the chain tensioner? With engine in car. There’s a harness protector box blocking it. I got 1 bolt but don’t see the other.
I know this comment is over 2 months old, but did you figure out a way to do this? One of my bolts is blocked by the harness as well, did you have to remove the intake?

Thanks for comment,If you have changed the tensioner of the chain, turn the engine slightly backwards and then clockwise.

It’s adjusting those darn wheels to perfection.. no one nOz quite hoO 2 do it correctly, & Iv heard if you don’t do it absolutely correctly, with 3 chains going through stage 1 & 2(& if it’s 1 link off & hU nOws which wEl to adjust?) supposedly that if it’s N interferNc NgN w/all that vvt timing sensitive German engineered(so to sPk) smRTpNts dumnS thEs dAz.. that supposedly 1 could ruin hOl NgN. Iv got a dry rattle, so don’t know if it’s timing chain stretched, timing chain tNsioners, camshaft actU8r gizmoz(or which 1 left or rIt) or what - Iv got oil on bottom of engine bt engine never seems too nEd oil(perhaps a slow lEk from those tNsionrs).. my plN is, 1- tAk off beauty cover put hands on top of both actU8rs & Sk someone to start engine(always rattled for about 1second). If rattle is in either actuater, Il replAc that. 2, change oil with synthetic high mileage oil & Lucas synthetic treatment(says it stops dry starts). If that fixes it it’s probley actuater, if that DOESNT fix it it’s probley timing chain stuff. 3 - check if timing chains loose & or stretched.. & do that tensioner stuff(for .50 labor as opposed to $800).. mNnn, the scMz always change but R always there👋😒
