This car does not have the latests software update unfortunately. But I will have a Polestar 2 Performace Pack with the update end of next week, and this exact car with the update a few weeks after that. So I will do the exact same tests with both cars 😊 So stay tuned, and subscribe and hit that notification bell if you don't want to miss those videos!
It's the Polestar for me regardless of price and distance restraints compared to the Tesla, first of all it looks great, the Tesla looks dated in comparison the front of the Tesla being the least attractive angle, looks almost like an early Mondeo from the early 00s ! Secondly comfort and noise levels are very important to me not how far it can go, even though that can be important to some I wouldn't swap comfort and serenity for an extra 20% distance, I don't like the slab screen in the centre of the dash on the model 3 either, so for me there is only one choice, the Polestar 2 has everything I look for in a car whereas the model 3 has too many drawbacks despite it's advantages over the Polestar, but when you know that the Polestar 2 is actually a Volvo in everything but name then that in itself is enough to swing it, Tesla's quality isn't up to volvo standards in my opinion so, when you add up all these advantages versus the drawbacks the Polestar wins comfortably in my opinion.
If someone don't travel very often long distances a year, there is no need for a M3. Then comfort, lower noise, easier service and quality matters more than being faster.
I drive from Ski to Grimstad often, and the charges at Tvedestrand always max out at 80 kw on my polestar. When i charge at Mer, i get over 100 kw, so i think something is up with polestar at kemptpower. Only reason i charge there is because of the free credit on plugsurf.
Great video! I‘m a Polestar owner and have chosen the Polestar 2 over a Tesla Model 3 due to the reasons you mentioned in your video like design, practicality (driver display, tailgate, door handles, etc.), built quality and comfort. If consumption and range would have been my number one priorities, a Tesla Model 3 would have been the first choice. Of course, the Polestar 2 has a higher consumption but we have to be fair with the car. It officially has a WLTP range of 470km versus 560km (now 580km) of a TM3 with similar batterie size and engine power. So Polestar doesn‘t even claim to be as efficient as a TM3. I hope the charging curve will improve with the upcoming February update, maybe the consumption will also be a bit better. Anyway, I love my PS2!
Yeah, test drove both cars and must say I just love the looks and feel of the Polestar...M3 is just a better electric Car. The only thing bothering me is that the P2 doesn‘t have a heat pump...
I have been thinking about the Polestar for exactly those reason, quieter, more comfort and likely slightly better driving position, the hatch back all those are a consideration and I am waiting for the heat Pump model is likely coming out in later 2021 here in Canada and that would seal the deal!
@KrisRifa The Pilot Assist is indeed very picky. Sometimes I need to squeeze it very hard to make the alert go away. Before I got a Volvo V60 T8 and there it was much easier to make the hold steering alert disappear. When I got the car in December it was on Summer tires. Now that I am on Winter tires (Continental) too the car is on par with the Volvo V60 T8 that had laminated glass. It's very quiet now and there's a much noticeable noise difference. It's still good on summer tires, but on winter tires it’s excellent. I'm not regretting my choice for the Polestar 2.
Would be very intresting if you compared diffrent EV's during shorter daily trips. For example driving to a store, park the car for 15 min, drive to another store, park, and then back home. Perhaps a trip of around 20-40km. Are the cars more equal to each other during short trips? Would be very intresting since most of the time I only drive shorter trips.
From the charge curves that are out there, and the tests me and Bjørn have done that is not true. Where did you get your information from? Do you have link? Watch my other videos on the P2 and XC40 P8. And what do you mean by "does not charge quick"? Two days prior to this test I was getting 121kWs at 40% SOC. I'd call that quick for being in the cold.
@@KrisRifa Hi own, a Polestar 2 myself, exactly the same spec you tested. 19 inch non-PP. I have noticed from experience that if you start at high SoC, that i wil not achieve the same speeds you get in the normal charge curve at the same percentage. Like you said the P2 has weird charge curve and weird charge behaviour. Like you tested earlier if start with a low SoC, at 21% it should charge @> 120kW. But because you started at 23% it does not nearly hit those speeds at 23%. The battery is warm enough you drove 100km/h at more than 2 hours, i have experienced the same thing in my p2.
@@KrisRifa thanks for your reply and the videos are great. I think it would be useful to do a recorded sound test with test equipment. This then in definitive. I’m in two minds with the Ps2 and M3P like most and noise is a big concern as I have a daily 100 mile round trip.
Still on the desember update and not on the february update... (since it says 4G instead of LTE). Dangit, Kris. Really wanted you to have the latest update :)
That is true! I will have performance pack with the update at the end of next week and this car with the update a few weeks after that 😊 So stay tuned!
20 km/h less, which brings average speed to 80 km/h (instead of 97 km/h), than the trip with the M3 will take 7h40 ... question is, is the noise level at 80 km/h so much lower with 100 km/h ?
Hi Kris, Great video again. Yesterday I charged at MER 150kW charging station from about 20% and got very disappointing 55KW max speed. I'm really looking forward for next OTA update which promises some improvements in regards to DC charging since this situation is completely unacceptable. From this video it already seems that update had a positive impact on range, but more testing is needed (th-cam.com/video/UeCQr2JM8KA/w-d-xo.html). Btw, next time your are heading to Kristiansand try to avoid entering centrum (train station in particular). There is a lot of ongoing excavation work and traffic regardless what time of the day is pretty bad here. One more tip (which I'm sure you are very aware from Oslo). These 2 tunnels after bridge and towards city center are always jammed around 16 :)
I find it somewhat misleading to call the video "Range Test 615 km" because you really don`t meassure if the car can go 615 km in i singel charge. Every EV can go 615 km given numerous charges. I wouldn`t compare Tesla model 3 and Polestar so much, because these two cars feels so different, I suspect (not having driven the Polestar). Polestar with It`s more conventional instrument cluster, can give it more safe feeling to drive. And it`s more like a "cross over" chassit, right? Where as TM3 is more sporty lower driving feel. Allthough Tesla would win both range and charging speed, Polestars slower charging speed might be good for the battery in the long run. Kris: I still like your videos. I find your english and voice so natural and comfortable to listen to.
Cool video! Respekt ✊ to the the YOLO KING! 😁😁 Was just thinking that unlike the etron the PS2 has only 3kwh buffer.. and considering the cars slow charging on the top it should mean that most of the 3kwh buffer is in the bottom.. which is not a lot.. 🤓
I have on the contrary heard that it have had buffer at the bottom for about 70km carefully driving and that one of the things the new update do is to lower that to get more range before the car show you 0%.
@@volvodashcam my point was that PS2 has according to spec only 3kwh buffer, and that should be used to preserve the battery.. doing 70km should be impossible when the car consumes 24kWh per 100km even of you use up all 3kwh in the buffer. 3 kw should give you around 12,5 km in theory with above consumption..
@@attilaistok6168 Yea, I know. I think the 3kWh buffer is actually when it shuts off totally. You can't go lower and are not allowed to use that buffer. Then there is (as I understand) another buffer that is from the car shows you 0km left until it shuts down. That is the one that should be lowered. But I can't find any official information about this so I can be wrong.
This is running on the old version with Android 9. I will have a Polestar 2 with PP and the newest software at the end of next week, and this car with the update two weeks after that again 😊 So stay tuned!
@@KrisRifa There are already some people in Germany and the Netherlands with the latest Android 10 and the socalled February (OTA)-Update and they experience much better consumption and charging characteristics. Because some already have it through the service at the Volvo/Polestar dealer, in Germany the OTA rollout is scheduled the last week of February in batches. :-) There are also more things for the better. : -)
