Great video Robert. The list you mentioned applies to all businesses, not just in NEMT business, but great advice for all types of businesses. Thank you.
It’s none of the employers business what someone’s credit history is. This is the problem….. business owners want first class employees, top shelf work, five star service for a one star paycheck!
I guess that's debatable. Someone's credit history is very strongly correlated with the type of work and performance one can expect. From that standpoint, a person with good credit wants it as a factor. Regarding first class employees vis-a-vis paychecks, I guess we all want a bargain, albeit as true with most things, you generally get what you pay for, which is why I always recommend to employer clients that they pay in the top 10% of the market
@@attorneybob sure everything is debatable, but that is personal and has absolutely nothing to do with the job. At least in my case. It’s important to have boundaries with employers and employees they do not get to know everything about your personal life and you don’t get to know everything about theirs. Thanks for the kind words, and WI tends to have much lower regulatory requirements than many states. At the local level, you may be required to get a taxi/livery license, and depending on the size of vehicle, an "authority" from the state. Likely, your biggest hurdles aren't from the state, albeit from the contracts, if you sign, by brokers.
You're welcome to call and/or email. I can provide coaching regarding insurance coverage to be sure, and also business plans and tax planning, as well as hiring etc... Do you know an insurance company in Minnesota? I’m starting my new NEMT business but it seems all the insurance companies I called don’t have insurance coverage in Minnesota and I’m a point of giving up. Thanks
Hi Ruqyah, Sure, I'm next door in Eau Claire Wisconsin and have carriers for Minnesota NEMT. Give me a call at 715-598-9924 and I'll be happy to provide a proposal.
The very first step is a business plan if you haven't operated one from the start before. From there, it kinda takes care of itself when done correctly
Yes, off the top of my head I can think of two that generally work well with start ups. I'm both a licensed attorney and insurance agent in California if you want to give me a call. Otherwise, the key is to find an agent that works in this space either primarily or at least often enough to know the nuances.
I recommend working for someone before starting a business in ANY industry. So many learning opportunities that you get paid to learn instead of spending your money learning. That said, you do not have to have two+ years experience to get coverage (although it MAY make a pricing difference too that should be considered in your business plan). Feel free to call and we can create a proposal, as well as discuss your ideas in full
Hi Laurie, I would find a local business attorney to talk to regarding starting your LLC. That said, if you're just a one person band without investors or partners, many (most maybe) states have online forms you can complete to create a state "default" business entity which works for most (I still recommend spending the time/$ to meet with an attorney for 30-ish minutes beforehand. Make sure you surround yourself with professionals who are interested in seeing you be successful. That includes an attorney, accountant/bookkeeper, and insurance agent, which all three being able to guide YOU, and you NOT having to guide them.
Some states require licensing, albeit as far as certificates (maybe that's what you mean, ie licenses), it depends and is widely different state from state.

Also my competition is only 3 big big company in Pittsburgh area , I might be the only small one with 2 cars to start can you help me please how to find contracts? Thanks Ali
If I'm in your position without knowing more than you posted, I would begin with reaching out in person to various support services you may contract with, or who may know who you want to talk with. State and local government offices, including those who reimburse for medical appointments are also a great place to look into. Lastly, the local Small Business Administration office and SCORE (I think it stands for senior core of retired executives, but you'll want to verify) will be able to provide a lot of help in gaining business leads, contacts, and contracts to work.

I love the idea of someone your age wanting to start a business. Give me a call during the end of March or early April and we'll have a conversation. The quick answer will be you're limited without an adult (such as a parent etc.) that will be the official owner due to the inability to find companies willing to contract with you (likely, albeit not for sure as it depends on the state, you can disaffirm contracts because of your non-adult status). Regardless, I would seek out a job with a provider that's doing things right regardless of the pay so you can gain experience and a greater understanding while getting paid at the same time. It's a much better way to learn something from the beginning when everything is on your dime.
@@attorneybob oh yea there’s a catch, my parents started the business back in 2012 but in 2014 they couldn’t renew their visa as soon as i graduate highschool i will be working in the company!

I believe a lot of providers have direct clients. That said, at the literal level, all transportation uses a "contract" even if oral. I take your question as to mean with brokers/middlemen and/or government agencies, and the answer to that is yes, it's possible and perhaps more profitable.
Generally speaking, each state has a secretary of state (although, WI has a department of financial institutions) that you register (give birth to) a separate entity.
Thank you. I've been wondering how to go about starting and the outlook for this industry. Can you recommend a website to help with a business plan and all other requirements. Much appreciated.
There are several places I would look to help develop your business plan. SCORE -> www.score.org/ is a great free resource. Also, you may find the chamber of commerce can connect you with someone who can assist you as well. There's also the SBA, small business Association too. I have several articles on the subject at my site, 1reason.com under the heading starting a business
I disagree with your credit opinion from my personal experience life happens people go through things. There are millions of people they have found for bankruptcy, which means at some point in time something wasn’t so great on financial end that right there discredits your opinion
I would start by actually working for another in the business already as I mention in the video. That's a great way to learn from the inside what you need to know, as well as help you gain a greater understanding of the income potential available to you. From there, I would look for a vehicle and contract you can use to migrate from working for another to your own business. If you're not in too big of a hurry, you can make much more money in the long run by not having to re-invent the wheel and learn from someone else.
