    Everyone is fixated on the weight, bus as someone who's carrying 200-600 on the daily, this is actually much lighter. It's great addition allowing me to only have 2 lenses - minimising the total weight and number of times I need to change lenses.

    It's a beast of a lens! And it's exactly the focal length I've always been looking for, plus the fantastic light intensity. In addition, this lens delivers an unprecedented quality! Only two disadvantages: It costs what it weighs.

    Nice Review! It's an amazing lens. I have it and the weight immediately had me wondering if it was going to be too much for me. But performance is GM level-excellent. And when I consider that this lens replaces my 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm focal lengths all in one package, I think it's a no-brainer.

      @@pierrenj79 well at 28mm it's f/2.8 so it works just as well as anything else. The long end will be more challenging handheld but I don't ever shoot 200mm indoors at night so I haven't had any issues. I live this lens. It was the reason I moved from Lumix to Sony. Now on occasion tracking through countryside I find the weight can become a problem. That's why I got the 28-200 f2.8-5.6 as well. Shooting mostly video my choice of wide lens to finish the set gone to Sony 10-18 f4 oss. Works great in crop but also from 12mm covers FF.

    I think the lens is awesome. But what I would like to see is, a 24-105mm constant f2.8. Everyone makes an f4 version of this lens, but I have yet to see a 2.8. I think if tamron can make this lens, the 35-150mm f2-2.8. I’m sure they can make a 24-105mm f2.8.

  • @Trigger-xw9gq
    @Trigger-xw9gq ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes, it’s a very nice lens, but for those considering it to replace their 28-75 and 70-180, one has to remember that when you have either the 28-75 or 70-180 on your camera, you always have a much lighter combination in your hands, and when you have the 35-150 on the camera, you always have a heavier combination in your hands. And while losing 30mm on the far end isn’t too much, losing 7mm on the wide end is quite a bit, and I fear that I would frequently be wanting those extra 7mm. On the price: you can easily find 28-75 and 70-180 lenses used now for a significant savings, but you can’t with the 35-150, you have to pay full retail + tax. Ouch. I think they would have been smarter to make it 28-150 at f/2.8 all the way through.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      28-150 at f/2.8 all the way through would be even bigger and heavier (if that's even possible).
      I don't think this lens could replace 28-75 and 70-180 .... but if you never had either of them or can justify spending more money on another lens than this is a great and very unique focal range.
      The weight is not that big of a problem for a lot of people - you just get used to it.

    Thanks for the amazing review! I can get the Tamron 35-150/2-2.8 or the Sony 20-70/4 at the same price with my local camera shop, so considering getting either one for my trip to Japan next year.
    The choice pretty much comes down to size, focal range and aperture range. if you could choose either for a 4 week trip, with travel, street, urban and landscape on an A7R5, which would you choose?

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd go for the Tamron but it is bigger and much heavier. Sony however gives you the wider focal range for capturing those famous street neon lights

    • @Sparky_oto
      @Sparky_oto ปีที่แล้ว

    You are reviewing all the interesting lenses lately, it’s all the stuff I’m struggling to decide between!
    I don’t have a 24-70, just primes (also, many thanks for your wisdom on the 50mm last month, I took your advice!). I have started to get offers of paid gigs to shoot families and their children, and primes just aren’t versatile enough for the fast kids. Id love to know how you found the speed of the autofocus here. Would I be better saving up for the 70-200 ii for its speed, or will this be a better fit as my one zoom, if I don’t have a 24-70?
    Many thanks in advance!

    The only big problem I have with this lens is there is no way to set the custom buttons to none. The bottom button is often touched while holding it, switching to whatever you have in ciustom settings, which can be AF/MF. Holding a button for 1 second I think resets it yet it is super frustrating.. Otherwise, the AF ye focus often misses on my A7Riiia.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  ปีที่แล้ว

      you could program it to something like camera custom selection - then set the camera to do nothing

    Can anyone explain the sequence for programming the 3 custom buttons using camera functions? When I try all 3 positions perform whatever the last function I set in camera.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you have to programme one of the custom switch position to be 'set by camera' - when you select that position of the custom button the 3 focus hold buttons will do whatever your camera is set for them to do

      I have found that the Tamron 28-75 g2 lens and the Tamron 70-180 lens together seem a bit lighter and for me more workable for events. Doesn't take up much room, neither weigh too much. Plus, I like the reach from 28-180 at a constant f/2.8. In fact, many times I'm wishing for a little bit longer reach than the 180. The 150mm would be too short a reach for me at a lot of the events I cover. But like Pav said, we have different folks with different needs.
