Not bad at all! If you'd like an improvement to the process, all you're really missing from the setup is a dop stick. It gives you a little more manual control over the angles when cabbing and polishing. You can very easily use the head of a nail as a dop stick, I like to use the big aluminum gutter nails, but, pretty much any nail will do, and you don't need dop wax either. Thick superglue works. (Grind the tip of the nail off first and foremost, so it isn't pointing at your palm waiting for disaster to strike, gotta throw in some safety CYA for the potential legal implications, don't want anyone getting hurt.)
First glue the nail to the stone, hit it with some baking soda and/or accelerant to get it bonded well, then once it's dry go around the edges again with more glue to build up a good bond. 5-minute epoxy works well too if you're on a budget with all this, and because of the extra torque from your buffing pads versus a 60k diamond paste on a copper lap, epoxy may help it stay on the nail better too. (If you're not on a budget, well, use a brass dop and dopping wax). Then when you want to remove it from the stone, if your stone tolerates acetone, you just soak it. If not, some heat does the trick, epoxy breaks down faster than most minerals do, but do the research first to make sure you're not gonna ruin your stone in the removal process. And if you're not doing precise facets you don't even need a dop transfer jig because it won't matter if they're centered. Just remove the one, glue on a new one on the other side and polish to your hearts' content.

@@MarsStones1 Yep! That or some athletic tape over your fingertips. I've buzzed my fingers more times than I can count, I know it sucks. Lol. It's not so bad with the continuous diamond saw but those diamond impregnated resin angle grinder bits will get ya for sure.

Thanks for the video. This is my first time at your channel. TH-cam probably recommended it because I watch MichiganRocks. It appears that you've found a promising topic here. I wonder about tools for holding and clamping the workpiece/stone so I would not have to rely on and risk injure my fingers. Similarly I wonder about mounting tools to hold the drill motor in a stationary position.
Best wishes and good luck Mr. MarsStones !

I blatantly cheated by buying a polished piece of agate from Temu for a trivial price, eliminating this entire process. I had planned to 'find' it next time I was at a stony beach with my girlfriend. However she must have recognized me as a dishonest man, and broke up with me before I had opportunity to pull the stunt. 😜Kudos to you for demonstrating the achievement of a nice result without a ton of equipment.

Suggestion. Shorten your video please. It might help to write and reherse a script. Most viewers will probably skip to the end if the process is tedious. Time laps could be sped up and shortened. Imho

Speaking of adapting normal tools to the hobby... I always wondered, and wanted to try, but never did...
If a person could make a homemade rock tumbler, but on a larger scale, that would tumble and polish bigger rocks, like the size of an adults fist, or bigger, by using a plastic 55 gallon drum laying across rollers and being turned by a motor of whatever type, driven by whatever fuel.
It would have to be done outside, in a rural area so you don't disturb anyone with that rock tumbler sound.
You should try it and make a video about the process. Even if it doesn't work, it will get you more views, some suggestions, and stimulate ideas.
