They’ve said that if this game’s successful (which giving the hype of there being no Half Life game for 12 years is undoubtable) they’ll “push things further”, which means HL3 using this VR approach, could be a possibility down the line, but not right now unfortunately.
Know this is unrelated but I hope the same thing that happened here doesn't end up happening to the Mass Effect franchise that would hurt me fortunately I didn't have to wait as long as some of you on Half-Life as I only really played the games a few years ago rather a decade.

Considering the fact that the Combine are multiversal in size and strength, we can conclude that Freeman's adventure and fight against our alien overlords will most likely never end.
Every Half-Life game so far has always ended vaguely, with no one knowing what will happen to humanity after said game is finished.
The Resistance may have defeated Overwatch, but there is still more of the Combine out there in the multiverse.
Perhaps the G-Man's intention of defeating Overwatch was never to defeat the Combine in the first place but to specifically liberate Earth? Perhaps. Maybe in order to 'recruit' Alyx Vance, or maybe even to 'inspire' other civilizations in other universes to rebel as well? At this point, no one really knows.
Speaking of the G-Man, who is he working for? And now that Ms. Vance is in his possession, what will he do with her?
I am positive that the Half-Life saga doesn't have any official 'endpoint'. Sure, maybe at some point, the games will have to stop coming out. But the story? No. There's really no end to all of this.
But I think this is probably what makes the Half-Life story better than other stories in the FPS genre, cosmic horror is essential to it. The fact that you can never defeat an alien empire, only expel their garrison from your planet. And the fact that your home planet is now ruined by alien wildlife which you have brought from another dimension by your own hands due to your failed experiment. Imagine Freeman's guilt. That's cosmic horror AND psychological horror.
Even then, who's to say that the Combine won't come back one day? In EP1, Dr. Kleiner said they will.

Even if Ep3 was canon, the Dyson Sphere isn't really proven to be the Combine's 'capital'.
I mean, the Borealis teleported Alyx and Gordon away to a random universe not to any particular coordinates, they were lucky to end up SPECIFICALLY in a Combine-occupied universe where they got to behold the sight of a Dyson Sphere built by the Combine.
The point is, in Ep3 nor in ALYX; no one actually knows where the Combine's capital is. People just assume about random places because Our Benefactors are so mysterious in their identity.

But it’s a fragile peace, the world and humanity are barely healing from the nightmare the Combine brought. Food is scarce, but hope for a better, brighter future is everywhere in sight.
Monsters still lurk in the shadows however, sure there are still Xen Creatures, even zombies, but the most dangerous creatures of all are human.
A Neo-Combine faction led by ex civil protection and Overwatch warlords nostalgic of their privileges and power are building an army in attempts to make contact with the Overworld. A dangerous war is brewing that could undo all that has been built.

It’s a gaming event sometime in the not-too-distant future. Maybe E3, maybe something else.
Valve is presenting. We hear about the usual stuff. Then at the end, the presenter states they have one last thing to show us.
The big screen goes dark. There is silence for several seconds.
Suddenly, a familiar, strangely-accented male voice speaks.

The beauty of HL2 is that you dont need to play it when it was launched. I just played it in February and I just stared at screen for 10 minutes after credits, because this game is amazing.
(Around my country HL2 was not known very much, because of that I was so late to play it)

@AMD Power You can run hl:a on a $200 vr plugged into a laptop, and it's still an amazing experience. I don't think it's that expensive considering the price of modern gaming.

2018s felt like 80s to me, this song made me fall in love with 80s back then, nostalgia man, that year and decade will always have a special place in my heart.
