Yeah they absolutely repurposed smartwatch hardware to run that secondary screen. I did a quick google search and the XC2806 chip on that daughterboard is indeed a low power microcontroller combining a Cortex m3 core, cryptography engine, inbuilt power management, with GPIO, UART, I²C, SPI and Bluetooth LE 5.0 connectivity, and it also has a 6 channel 10-bit ADC, and even a touch interface. That Puya chip is probably local RAM to store graphics information and its most likely communicating via serial to the MT6580 (hence the serial port app). Too bad they put an MT6580 as the main CPU because this phone would have massive potential had they only put in something a little better.
other chip is puya P25Q64SH there is datasheet on it ( as you say its some sort of ram / storage chip - SPI NOR FLASH 64Mbit, 8MB Memory. ) its sop - 8 and i guess it can be read/write with CH341A also i can't find from XC2806 datasheet where is touch clock , reset .. only i can seen touch_In fuction
I also noticed the time on the secondary screen does not match with the time on the phone (11:52) which made me realize that the phone has a whole smartwatch screen and motherboard that counts the time at its own
The competition is extrem high and the risk to go bankrupt high too. First they would need to compete in the Chinese market where already bunch of cheap phones from many different brands are available. Then launch international is even a different story. Its easier to make money this way.
I noticed that the time on the secondary screen does not match with the time on the phone (11:52/12:00) which made me realize: This is not just a secondary sceen... THE PHONE HAS AN ENTIRE SMARTWATCH ON THE BACK

Okay, this is the firste Welcome device I've ever seen that's GENUINELY impressive that you CAN'T easily get from regular OEMS. Yes, Unihertz makes a "circular back screen" phone but IMO, this one actually looks better placement wise.
I wonder if they still actually produce the MT6580 or if there is just a warehouse in China full of them, considering it is getting close to being a decade old. Maybe they're even reclaimed from e-waste.
Probably from e-waste. I've worked on mobile game technical support back in China in 2015 and so many of those phones that have issue with our games use MediaTek chips... They sold a bunch of them during those years
To be fair I use a Samsung phone that also have 10points whatever but I don't really have a use for it.. Oh well I only see one use, you can put your palm on the screen as a shortcut or slide your hand on the screen for another shortcut, it may use that 10point touch to detect it's your whole palm on the screen?
@@Jimiscool88 20 point? that's crazy! people might think "why would someone need so much multitouch?", for me, it's really important for responsiveness especially when i'm playing games
They actually cancel your order if you order a fake phone with that chip to Norway, because we no longer have 3g networks. Complaints from customers would be immediately because of no network.
i love your hype when you saw the secondary screen working lmao, in the most no-offence way possible seeing an adult being so excited about a slapped on a $10 phone smartwatch screen is funny 😂

I think with proper budget welcome can create pretty good looking midrange phones by this point. They try to play around with the design and like this one sometimes they nailed it.
Initially when the Camera test started I saw that it looked pretty much on par with a Samsung Galaxy S2, same 8MP on both phones too, however the S2 is actually more advanced and powerful in the camera department because it can shoot full HD video - This device can't.
I have an idea. When telstra shuts down the 3g network, call a 3g welcome phone with 3g and play some music, idk and wait till it shuts down and see what happens! XD
I don't know what the use of a secondary screen like this would be but it's actually cool. Too bad the processor is a MT6580. This phone would've been so much cooler if it was a little more expensive and had a decent processor.
seems like the OEM/ODM have standardized on these specs and android 8 for many models. which can mean = customisable OS and settings for many devices (TV box to phones to tablets to "note-books"). there is a chance the telco-country-region detection may play a part in unlocking some capabilities. for those who like antagonise standards-organisations.
