      I sold that scooter a couple of years ago. Although it is far from perfect, For a scooter it is probably one of the fastest ones you could buy at the time and held its own in the speed department for many years

      Motorbikes give you the illusion of more control. BUT only in certain situations. At low speed the additional weight results in less control, in ice or snow this is the same. The way you can flip a lightweight scooter will alway be easier than a heavier motorbike.

    I have close to a decade and over 100k miles on two scoots. Going for my third this year. Scoots are fun and economical ways to get around. I live in the Phoenix area so good weather most of the year. I have had outlaw bikers come up and say that I am crazier than they are for riding in traffic on 50cc and 125cc scoots.
    I will recommend three things.
    First off, assume everyone is trying to kill you on the road. Assume that you will not get respect and always keep an eye out for a way out of a situation. You are more nimble and can stop quicker than anyone on the road. Riding on small engines has taught me to respect power and mechanical ability. Since scoots are short on this adjust your riding style. I also recommend being a predictable driver, personally I treat my scoot like a car on the road. I do not lane split and I almost always ride on the driver's side of the lane. I wear a Levi's trucker jacket and my scoot is a red color and both of these help for visibility.
    Second, if you ride on two wheels long enough, you are going to go down. I've done it once, on a clear day of all things. In AZ they oil the roads to keep them quieter. What happened was my eyes are not as good as they used to be and grey and graphite color cars blend in with the road more so now. I was not going fast, about 20 mph when I realized that the car in front of me was stopping. I hit my break and it was up-down as quickly as you read that. No wiggle room. I had gas all over my leg, the wind knocked out of me and I was pissed. I turned off my scoot, picked it up, moved to the side of the road and caught my breath. I was scooting 5 mins later. I got a cracked rib and my hearing was off for a year. Both are better. Funny thing is I have ridden in heavy rain, we had a snow/hail/rain/ice storm a few weeks ago, Haboobs... it was an over oiled street that took me down. I had 80k miles by that time.
    Last one is keep your scoot well maintained. It affects reliability and safety. If you can do basic things like oil changes, cool, you can save some dough. But it is good to have your scoot serviced by professionals. I had to replace a variator and clutch last year. The new clutch went out quick because it was defective. My repair garage didn't even question me and took care of it. Alao they caught major issues before they became accidents. While it is tempting to everything as cheaply as possible on a scooter, have regular maintenance and major services done by professionals. This also helps should there be a big issue as you have a service record of it. Also keep in mind compared to cars and motorcycles, a professionally maintained scooteer is still way cheaper. That said if you want cheap, go with a bicycle. Seriously.
    Scooting is fun and a cheap way to get around. Most of the world uses scooters. Enjoy the ride!

      Agreed on “everyone’s out to kill you” I’ve had several cars for some reason swerve at me. They got flipped the bird. But wish people would share the road. Soon a lot more people will be smart n get themselfs a little scooter to save some money. I sure did

      Nice! The middle finger on my left hand gets quite the workout flipping the bird here in AZ. I was involved in one street fight. The guy had to go get his head stitched up so I would qualify that as a win!😆
      That said people who get aggro and tell me to pull over, I do. They keep on driving. I guess they didn't want to get taught a leasson.🤣🤣🤣

      It's possible, but it depends on the size of the scooter. A big Maxi-scoot like a Burgman might. I've never tried on mine, but I can fit a small tripod under the seat so a small skateboard might be possible too. if not if you have bungie cords you cord lash it to the back seat.

    Scooters are relaxing. Heavier motorbikes can get tiring both physically and mentaly in heavy traffic, rain or cold. Cold muscles lead to ache and exhaustion. Heavy traffic leads to frustration and tense muscles for the need for more frequent control. It helps if you fit your bike well as this requires less muscle tension to be maintained due to a different balance

    Chevy volts only have 13 parts in the drive train and the electric motor is oil cooled. I am 76 and just changed out the rear tire by myself and it did take me 4 hours, a Kymco like 200 i , 2012 done in 10/28/2020. It was difficult for me but got it done. I have been ridding motorcycles for 56 years of many makes and sizes. Bought this scooter used a year ago because I gave up ridding after a open heart triple bypass operation in 2015, and for the ridding I do now there is no need for anything else. AND it is fun, no throwing a leg over a seat, no clutch, used $ 1200 ,75 to 80 miles per gallon . What is not to like and at my age hope to have many more years of scooting around. And because it is so pretty and quiet, surprised how many people wave at me. I get asked a lot about it because not many people ride scooters where I live. Scoot on. Live to ride and ride to live. Thanks for the video and have fun, all you on 2 wheels no matter what you ride.

It beats the hell out of the bus and costs next to nothing to keep running. 80-100mpg and can easily keep up with traffic on any road you'd want to have it on. I was also lucky enough to end up with one of the 63cc ones.. was wary about the china factor but the price was right at $350. Was always garaged and basically still in showroom condition with 550km when I got it. Has been a great little bike so far.. actually more reliable than a ruckus that I had for a while.

    I ride my scooter everyday to work and I love it! I'm a short dude and a beginner rider, most geared motorcycles, even small underbone mopeds are a bit too tall, though I can ride it as it's what I learn to ride in order to get our motorcycle licence.
    I don't care what people saying about riding scooter being inferior, even though I don't see myself riding a sportbike, I still love riding because I was forbidden from doing so for so long, it's so liberating. I'm more of the leisure riding guy who loves the wind rushing through yet not too into speed. I can weave through traffic when it's congested, it allows me travel free while still able to carry some necessary stuffs, I like my scooter as it is instead of having to fix a box or something for storage.

    • @chuckvt5196
      @chuckvt5196 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It depends on the model. Every manufacturer has a recommended mileage at which the belt should be changed. On Vespa and Piaggio scooters, it is 12,000 miles. One thing you will notice when the belt is getting worn is an decrease in your top speed.

    • @paulr7496
      @paulr7496 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      whilst it's good to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, especially in warranty, you will likely find the belts last a bit longer than the replacement schedule. Both my 125cc and 300cc scoots went a few thousand miles longer. Just check it monthly by taking the cover off and inspect for cracks or obvious signs of wear. It's a good opportunity to give the housing a clean at the same time, sometimes dust builds up and the belt starts slipping, giving juddery starts.

The intervals for maintenance are somewhat small in terms of mileage, but it is way cheaper. Especially if you do it yourself. The carburetor and variator (rollers) need the most attention I think. I don't know anyone that hate scooters. The most cyclist start on a scooter or on a 125cc dirt bike. I'll think is more the show of being grown out of this kind of transportation. And it is really an american thing. Everything under a 44 magnum is for sissies and only if you can claim having arthritis a 357 mag will be accepted. . The same with motorcycles. As an american you must ride at least a 1800cc bike (HD advertising is working since 1930) even if you personally would like much better a 500-600 Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki that would be the more economical, more powerful and more time-fitting in the 21 century. Who in the world would buy a 8 cylinder gas guzzler sedan besides a US-american roughneck? It's a american thing I believe.

    Not needing a motorcycle license is a good idea for kids. After that, just get a motorcycle license. It's no big deal. I actually moved up from 50cc to 100cc or 125cc without getting a license and got away with it for a few years. Eventually, I got a bigger bike and went to take a motorcycle test. I kept the endorsement on my license for over 20 years. I've only been pulled over once on a sportbike and he let me go with a warning. The other time, they didn't catch me, so not sure if that counts or not. Anyways, just get a motorcycle license if you are old enough, then you can get a little more power and keep up with traffic.

    Scooters are wonderful lil machines. 150cc scooters with more like 70-75 miles per gallon beats even the gas prices in the Communist states of the US.
    I've got a Vespa 80cc scooter back in the days and it brought me an literally every spot that I wanted to be. Everything in reach of 120 miles (one way) was OK.
    Later than it had to be a Motorcycle, big Kawasaki, BMW, Honda........
    Today I have two cars and a Motorcycle.
    You know, the US is a wonderful land (at least Texas is) you can have as many automobiles and motorcycles you want. So I got the small car, for this and that and yes for that too, the Truck for this and that anyway, and the motorcycle for fun. The one fits all does not exist. You can't commute every day to town with an 18 wheeler. But you can't move from Comifornia to Georgia with a 50cc scooter.
    The neighbor bought himself a Suzuki Burgman 400 to ride with his daughter. I had the scooter for 4 days and knew I need one. I already forgot what fun it is to ride a scooter in town. I have to add a scooter for Christmas this year.

    I've rode a few scooters now I own a motorcycle, I could say there's benefits and cons to both, scooter is much easier to handle, less gas, motorcycle is much faster can go long distance on highways, more respectable, if you want to just go around town and don't care about image a scooter is easier, if you want to go on longer trips, have more acceleration and power, better image then a motorcycle

    I live in Gaithersburg and I've seen a few people driving these things around and they seem to be fantastic even in traffic. however I think driving it on 270 or even the beltway might be a little dangerous.

    The only thing right now in the way of me getting a scooter, is money, which I will eventually get, and my brothers always saying it’s too dangerous.. how can I convince them it would be fine?

      Defensive driving!! Never forget that you WILL loose against pretty much anything else on the road. Give them the right of way and pretend that you are basically invisible.

      Statistics. You are more likely to die as a pedestrian in a collision than you are on a motorcycle. Per million registered vehicles, 600 motorcycle riders died.
      Don't go to fast on curves or wet surfaces.
      Wear all the gear.

      A 150cc scooter keeps up with traffic except freeways, as such you command the lane and nobody passes you, riding a bicycle you are on the side of the road, inattentive people pass you blindly the whole ride

    I have a moped too but it's manual, it goes 110 km/h, it's pretty fast ngl, and useful sometimes bc in Morocco not wearing a helmet does not matter sometimes, but lane splitting does not matter at all, that's why i love mopies 😂
